View Full Version : Dakkon impersonation, any suggestions?
Rakanishu Thu, 5th Oct '00, 9:32am I wonder if there are any Dakkon fan clubs out there.
Anyway, is there a way I can make a Dakkon-like character as my protagonist? What kind of kit or weapons should I use?
Dakkon is a fighter mage right, and yet I get the feeling that most of his powers come from his sword. :(
Will a Kensai/Mage kit do? If it's even possible.
I need somebody well versed in AD & D to tell me.
Sylvus Moonbow Thu, 5th Oct '00, 1:31pm I know my AD&D, but who is Dakkon?
Syl...
SwiftFalcon Thu, 5th Oct '00, 5:31pm Dakkon was a character in Planescape:Torment. Pretty cool guy.
Taluntain Thu, 5th Oct '00, 8:37pm Well for one thing, you can't choose a githzerai race so that's one of the major problems.
The next is all of his unique items...
Starting with his sword which is shaped from chaos matter by his thoughts, his Zerth ceremonial armor, plus the Circle of Zerthimon, another unique item you won't find anywhere else. Especially since the Circle of Zerthimon was fashioned for him by the Nameless One...
So I suppose the best you could do would be a human fighter/mage with a katana profficiency. Not much of a Dak'kon look-alike, unless you slap a portrait of Dak'kon on him. :p
Jehovah Thu, 5th Oct '00, 10:27pm Hehehe well.. you could try a human dual class. Fighter kensai, then later dual class him as a mage. second the only item you can find that belongued to Dakkon in the game, if you have the collecter cd, bonus cd stuff, there's patch floating around for that. Is his katana.. it gives you a bonus spell from 1-4 level. well hope that helped.
The Deviant Mage Sat, 7th Oct '00, 8:18am Actually, you can buy Dak'kon's sword for a pretty penny in the Adventurer's Mart. I think that's only if you have the Collector's Edition CD. You can get Vhailor's robe, a Sensate amulet, and some other stuff too.
Rakanishu Sun, 8th Oct '00, 5:30pm Heh Deviant, I'd almost believe you if you stuck only with Dakkon's sword. As it is getting the rest of the stuff is too outlandish even for my feeble mind! :D
What I like about Dakkon is, he's a very loyal companion and thus invaluable. The way he speaks is really unique and well done, not cheesy at all, I must congratulate the Planescape crew on their talent and creativity.
You get to unlock the Unbroken Circle of Zerthimon with him if your Intelligence and Wisdom is high enough, and it really adds to the story.
The telling of the story of Zerthimon could have become as dull as a history lesson, but I think it was very well done. The story telling is just superb, unfortunately I can't tell you exactly why. 8(
Hmm....I guess the best I can do is a fighter/mage. What proficiency should I use though? Two handed weapon: Katana?
Also, Jehovah you mentioned that I can actually get a karach blade in BG2, could you explain a little bit more? (Me salivates)
Taluntain Sun, 8th Oct '00, 9:42pm You don't actually get a Karach blade. That'd be impossible since it's shaped out of Chaos Matter by the gith and therefor (logically) only usable by the wielder and for as long as they're alive.
What you can buy is a pretty similar weapon to what Dak'kon had though. A katana that lets you memorize some extra spells etc.
Jehovah Mon, 9th Oct '00, 10:42am Yup what he say's *points the post above himself* :) They say its Dakkons blade, but its just a plain Katana with the abiltity to memorize 1 extra spell from 1 to 4th level
Rakanishu Wed, 11th Oct '00, 7:50am Hehe, of course I know there aren't any real Karach blades in BG2, but there must be a close approximation right?
What about the Githyanki's silver blade?
Vile Thu, 12th Oct '00, 2:41am I think that turns into the Vorpal sword. Dak'kon's sword was actually classified as a long sword, but I have to agree that the closest thing to his sword is that katana sword they are talking about. If only you could have some of his abilities too...
The Deviant Mage Fri, 13th Oct '00, 1:10am I can't believe you doubt me. You get the Collector's Edition CD, a new merchant appears in the Adventurer's Mart. The items they sell are all Torment related, save a few items of Balduran's. Dak'kon's sword is +2, with spell bonuses. Vhailor's helm grants the spell Simulacrum once per day. The Sensate amulet is in there too, along with some sort of extra-planar harp, I believe.
Odd things is, the description of the weapon gives away the end of the game...good thing I beat it well before I saw that.
Taluntain Sun, 21st Jan '01, 11:31pm Not to mention that you can download the Dak'kon soundset from out Editors, Hacks & Custom Characters subsection.
Building a Dak'kon replica has never been easier. :)

Crawl Wed, 24th Jan '01, 1:06am Well thank you Deivent Mage. Good thing I was planning on buying the game and definately haven't beaten it yet, otherwise I'd just be SOL, huh :D Hmm, maybe if I just keep saying, "forget what you just read, forget what you just read...". Anyway, don't forget the Dakkon Zerth blade in the game also gives AC+1, and Valor's helm for me at least has problems casting Similacrum most of the time.
