I've been playing Neverwinter for a while, and in Neverwinter it's quite easy to pull of a sneak attack.
In Icewind, however, I've NEVER seen my rogue do sneak attack damage. It's always the regular 1 to 6 points of damage or no damage at all (my rogue uses a bow)
Does sneak attack only work with melee weapons, and if so, how do you actually get a sneak attack ?
Don't just say something general like , "you have to flank the person." I want to know how to actually pull it off when playing this game.

In IWD sneak attacks are only melee. Either first attack coming out of hiding or invisible or flanking (can be any ally like a summons). Not as good as NWN or TOEE.

Sneak attack is melee only. The Rogue has to be hidden and must hit from behind the targets back. The rogue has only one round to connect. If the Rogue tries to sneak attack and fails to hit the target in that round, then he becomes visible and attacks normally.
Flanking is when you are to the side of the target and not exactly behind him. The area outside 60 degrees to the right and left of the direction the target is facing is allowed for sneak attack.
If the target is sleeping and you want to sneak attack, the Rogue must be positioned at its head.
Edit: :D Corrected it HB.

Rogue, rogue, rogue! The word is rogue, not rouge! Rouge is a french colour or something women put on their faces.
But, back on topic, I too have found that sneak attack is much easier to pull off in Neverwinter Nights and BGII than in IWDII.

Agreed! One of the biggest reasons I liked NWN so much was the proper implementation of sneak attack in the game for rogues.

BTW, do you know if rogues get their sneak attack damage maximized from the feat that maximizes attack damage? The one that requires concentration and weapon specialization twice?
