I was browsing around to find something good to read and found this on teambg.com -> Okay, I have IWD2 and have been digging around in its BIFs with WinBiff and studying some 2DA files and have discovered undeniable proof that Black Isle has definitely planned for an expansion pack for it. Whether this gets completed and released depends upon them, but if I were to bet I would say you can count on an IWD2 expansion pack and I would bet likely around 4 to 6 months from now for optimal market advantage.
I see many interesting things in IWD2. Subraces, 3E rules, lots of feats. However, I have yet to see what chosing a subrace really means for your character. Only time will tell. Different reactions from creatures and those non-joinable NPCs perhaps? I am unsure yet. IWD2 is on 2 CDs with compressed BIFs and on the plus side it has all the sounds and portraits from IWD and HOW plus more original ones. As for gameplay and how interesting the game is, we still have to see.
On the topic of IE modding tools being compatible with IWD2. You should count on many things not working properly or fully with IWD2 until more of our community members and programmers get to examine the changes in file structures. I do know that most existing BIF extraction tools should work fine, I know WinBiff does.
Anyway, I just thought I would drop this note and *break the news* that Black Isle has at least planned for an IWD2 expansion and is likely working on it as I type this! Happy adventuring! Sounds really, really great!
