Greetings all,

I noticed that at 6th level the rogue gains an ablility - (uncanny dodge) - cannot be flanked

Now (surprisingly) flanking isn't in the manual nor is the ability and I don't own a copy of 3rd ed

Could somebody fill me in on the penalties of being flanked - I gather it allows rogues to perform backstabs - but does it affect anything else?

Also Pilsbane mentioned in an earlier post -

"Small tip with rogues: don't use a shield, ever. Not sure which level, but rogues get a skill that gives them an evade chance to avoid hits, but can't be using a shield during this. My rogue was actually taking less damage without a shield than with a shield. So either dual wield or use a bow/crossbow."

Has this been implemented and if so at what level?

Thanks for the info!

I think the in-game info on the Rogue gives some info about Uncanny Dodge, which gives extra bonuses at predetermined levels.

As for flanking, not sure, but I think that normally you don't get to use your dex bonus to ac if you're being hit from the side or back. With Uncanny dodge you retain that ac bonus. Should also be in the in-game info I think.

In PnP 3rd Edition Flanking is when two allies are on exactly opposite sides of an opponent. The flankers get a +2 to hit for flanking. Rogues get their sneak attack damage bonus (formerly backstab) on the flanked oppponent unless that opponent is one that is immune to critical hits.

In IWD2 I am not sure how they worked out flanking and sneak attack. I have tried it several times and only 50% of the time does my Rogue get his sneak damage. I think they made the game so that the opponent must be attacking my ally or facing away from my Rogue. One thing I have noticed is the buggers turn around when my Rogue flanks them and they attack him to keep from being hit with the sneak damage. How do they know he is a rogue type before he even hurts them? Darn programmers cheat!! ;)
