View Full Version : Iyachtu Xvim
LDusan Mon, 28th Oct '02, 12:44pm He is just impossible to kill. After 20 minutes of torturing to kill him, I got him to "almost dead", he starts talking "No, you can't kill me" and summons 2 gelagons. I don't stand a chance against them with 20 HP and no potions and no useful spells. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am going crazy about this.

reepnorp Mon, 28th Oct '02, 1:11pm 20 HP? MY GOD MAN! Gee, in my opinion, your quite screwed!
Upidstay Mon, 28th Oct '02, 1:42pm How the heck did you manage to get to that stage in the game with only 20 hp??? That would make you something like a 5th thru 7th level wizard with a rotten constitution score. I agree with the first reply, I think you up an excrement filled body of water with no means of propulsion. RESTART. Add a fighter or three to your group. Give them good strength scores and 2 handed weapons.
Grey Ghost Mon, 28th Oct '02, 3:56pm Load up on the best blunt weapons that you have and lay the smack down on him. If you picked up some of those +4 weapons available in Kuldahar you should do ok. This is a tough fight, so go into it with all the buff spells you can muster, prot from evil, stoneskin, improved haste, bull str, improved invis, fire shield, etc...
Your weapons have to be pretty strong to hurt Xvim, so if you don't have many +4 or +5 weapons (and who does???) you may want to consider picking up some +5 arrows from Riki on level 4 or killing the Thayvians (since some of them carry +5 daggers). Also, the 2 Slayer Knights of Xvim guarding the stone with the demon souls carry +5 two handed great swords of the soulless (kickin weapons).
Try using some of those weapons and be sure to buff before the fight. I had 2 characters attacking Xvim from the start. Three others wiped out the demons he summoned while my rogue was running around the room with demons chasing him. Once all the demons were down, Xvim did not last that long. Granted it did take more than once to win this fight, but after buffing up a bit it was a lot easier.
LDusan Mon, 28th Oct '02, 7:54pm No, no you didn't understand, my fighters have only 20 HP when he summons those creatures, that's what I meant. This is how it goes: fighter (hasted) attacks Xvim, paladin, rogue and summoned creatures attack cornugons and lemures. Wizard helps them with magic missiles. Now, cleric casts tremor, hoping that Xvim will go unconscious. Then he heals fighter. Paladin finishes those demons and starts helping fighter. Xvim is now "hurt" at best. Now, paladin and fighter are attacking Xvim, one of them is running away from him, while the other hits him. Then Xvim changes his target and fighter and paladin change places. This is all happening with while my fighter and paladin have only 20 HP left. He gets "almost dead", and summons more demons, and that's it. How? I think that my rogue is pretty useless in this fight. All she does is help lemures die sooner, cornugons and Xvim are immune to her arrows. I could try those +5 arrows though. Wizard can't directly hurt Xvim, cause he is immune. Now if someone could tell me his tactics, I would be very grateful.
Grey Ghost Mon, 28th Oct '02, 10:10pm He really did not have much in the way of tactics in my fight. Just picked a character and started attacking. Also, Xvim did not summon more creatures to his aid after the first batch was taken out.
Pretty much once I had dispatched all the demons he fell quickly. He resists damage, which is why you need to check what type of weapons you are using. Even the +5 arrows were not completely effective, but they were better than nothing for my rogue, cleric, and my sorcerer to use. Also, try some buff spells other than haste, may be use resiliant sphere on the character Xvim is attacking. Or summon some creatures to tank for you. Fire Shields may help deal some damage back to Xvim. I don't know what all you have, but use everything you've got since this is a tough battle. Also, Xvim's scimitar of the soulless +3 does extra electrical damage if I remember correctly so you may want to cast storm shell or something else to help resist elec damage, also you can equip your character's with a ring of shock resistance if you have one...
LDusan Mon, 28th Oct '02, 11:33pm Yes, I have tried with resilent spheres, three in a row, it is a good tactic but it got me only to "almost dead". I might try with different weapons, I have a lot of unidentified ones. How come he didn't summon more creatures at the end? Maybe you killed him more quickly. Thanks for the help, I shall try again.
