View Full Version : What is your Single most Favorite Piece of Equipment?
Kabuki Man Fri, 4th Apr '03, 4:23am If your character could ONLY have one, Uno, Un, Eich, I, 1. One piece of equipment.
What Would It Be?
IE: You Have a nakey Monk. No armor(Duh), no rings, pendent, belt, bracers, boots, hat, or any weapons.
A strange creature comes up to you and offers you any item you wish. What do you ask for?
If I could give my char one item.. *thinks, realizing JUST how tough a question this really is.. *
I Will post Mine later.. LOL
Khelben Fri, 4th Apr '03, 8:53am I'd want the Golden Heart of <CHARNAME>, just because it's cool, powerful and charismatic.
EDIT:what's eich?
Urgazhi Fri, 4th Apr '03, 9:05am i love these types of q's...
anyways, my one single piece of equip would be...
um...
does it have to be a material item?
like i would ask for godhood/immortality.
(im an arcane freak)
chevalier Sat, 5th Apr '03, 12:33am My brain that was keeping that paladin alive with his stats ;)
Holy Avenger of course.
Magiens Materialis Sat, 5th Apr '03, 6:51am a good bow for my elven archer. :D
Taurnil Sat, 5th Apr '03, 7:47pm I have a thing for rogue weapons, and so far the best one I've found is the Charged short sword of wounding +5. I like that one :D
Then as a weapon for my fighter, who dual wields, I like the dykhast longsword +5(6?) or also the Golden Heart of [Charname] they're both way nice.
I haven't played a Paladin yet but I'm looking forward to the Holy Avenger.
(BTW if those weapons I mentioned aren't very good, tell me some better ones please lol)
ArrynMorgerim Sat, 5th Apr '03, 8:08pm Sorry IWD2, but I would ask for Ring of Gaxx.
Regeneration, combat prowess and invisibility power, what more could I ask?
LDusan Sun, 6th Apr '03, 3:40pm Some strength modifying equipment for my paladin I guess.
Arutha Sun, 6th Apr '03, 8:22pm No brainer, that one.
The Bag of Holding, of course. ;)
Stitch Mon, 7th Apr '03, 10:11am Wine
Urgazhi Mon, 7th Apr '03, 11:17am ability to change into a dragon with infinite power!
Kabuki Man Tue, 8th Apr '03, 2:23am Khel: Japanese for 1. ^^
*Is surprised someone Thought to put down the bag of Holding!!*
I Would have to agree with that.. Loot can be fairly easy to come by.. but a magical bag that you can stow 38 suits of platemail and it ONLY way 5lbs ...
That's Nifty!
Zurga Tue, 8th Apr '03, 3:17am An application form for joining the legion of the Chimera. :D
Kabuki Man, what is japanese for 2? In faroese its tvey.

ejsmith Tue, 8th Apr '03, 4:54am I have to admit, that Ring of Gaxx really would come in handy.
As it stands right now, I find fire protection stuff to be the most handy. I go through fire storms and walls like they were some kind of candy.
Urgazhi Tue, 8th Apr '03, 10:03am some clean undies
Viking Tue, 8th Apr '03, 2:13pm Ring of Gaxx would have been good, But I'm afraid it comes a fair way second to the Staff of the Magi.
Instant invisibility, Spelltrap all day. Would be a must for any self respecting Sorcerer.
Kabuki Man Wed, 9th Apr '03, 4:10am Zurga (Ni: (Sounds like Knee) Not too sure on spelling)
Something i'd like to Fight, but you'll prob NEVER see in a compy D&D game..
3rd Edition Tarasque..
*Drools over treasure & Exp..*
The Tarasque Hide Sheild, Would be a sweet item as well.. But it takes 2 years to be made.. By a dwarven master Smith.. :(
ArrynMorgerim Thu, 10th Apr '03, 11:54am Well, staff of magi is cool, but I play fighters.
Therefore Ring of Gaxx
BTW, that Tarrasque......... :D
Faragon Thu, 10th Apr '03, 5:54pm Urgahzi, I'm guessing that by equipment, Kabuki means an item. But that might just be me  ;)
Personally I'd like Winged Blight.
Mathetais Thu, 10th Apr '03, 7:10pm Good point Faragon. So many humans to kill in this game. That's why my paladin carries Winged Blight.
As a side note, in NWN my elf ranger took HUMAN as her favored enemy. Those filthy creatures keep showing up!
My favorite piece of equipment ... bag of holding. I like a neat inventory screen and wish I could have six of those bad boys.
Khelben Thu, 10th Apr '03, 7:42pm Uh oh, if those nifty BG items are included,i'm going all the way with a wish scroll.
shenlong Fri, 11th Apr '03, 7:37pm The best item i can think of is the "wand of the dead"(animate death).
let them do the dirty work of killing while i can feast on the xp.
finally hope the wand dosent run out of charges.......lol :D
Quicho Fri, 11th Apr '03, 8:33pm An item that generates "energy", or allows it.
(From the point of global view, not an short time advantage).
What is energy? It depends. In Diablo it is something that increases mana or life regeneration.
In D&D games it could be an regeneration item, that heals "huge" hit points per round, all the time that a character has it equipped. Or imagine an item that restores spent spells (without resting of course). Another type of "energy" in D&D games are items that work without being spent in one day (not an x/day) or being spent at all (x usages - for example wands). A great item would be a wand "regenerator" that could not be spent after x usages.
Such items or actions (for Example in Vampire Masquerade the skill theft of vitae costs less vitae than it takes from target when this skill is on second or greater level) makes the game unbalanced.
Casting away all unreal wishes I think, that it depends on a character and players play style. Therefore every item that boosts a character is a great one. I love thieves. I always have one. When playing single, I play a thief if it is possible (or MC to wizard). My second choice is sorcerer.
In IWD2 (not played HoF, now somewhere in before Dragon Eye) i most liked Boots of speed (my favorite thief's equipment in many games: hide, sneak attack, run and hide - this tactics work very good in NWN, where my thief could hide before opponent's eyes - quite unbalanced ..., in IWD2 it helps in surprise attacks and battle micro-management, of course for "bomb" your own thief with fire and ice ;) when surrounded by opponent's) and a coat that shifted character's image (forgot it's name, my game is on another computer ... far away - I can't start it and determine; works well for a sorcerer and for every fighter).
On second thought there are times when it seems to be impossible to survive - when you meet an nearly perfect immune opponent. Then the most needed item is one that can hurt this opponent or help to escape.
Wow. Sorry for this lengthy post. But today I wrote a part of an audit of IT system of a big company, I have headache and ... lost words in this second . I'm going home. I'll start IWD2 ... that will be lovely ...
Shadow Sword Sat, 12th Apr '03, 3:03am hmm its a difficult decsision theres so many ways you could go
Icingdeath45 Sun, 13th Apr '03, 4:27pm I want two realy good bastard swords for my fighter(he dual-wields).
Gorgon Thu, 17th Apr '03, 11:16am hmhmmm! Maybe the book of "how to be an adventurer". 10 000 exp. is not bad.
To a paladin i would take Holy adventurer.
Urgazhi Fri, 18th Apr '03, 4:52am isnt there a HoF item for the "How to be an adventurer" book?
Volsung Sun, 20th Apr '03, 10:27am Well...
A HUGE barrel full of beer for my Dwarf! :D
No, just kidding. Golden Heart of <Char. name> or Blessed flank of the Virgin or Celestial Aura or... a +10 keen vorpal returning throwing flaming thunderous corrosive cold blessed wounding dancing intelligent battleaxe of the defender sounds fine. :D :D
dman18 Mon, 21st Apr '03, 12:35am Hehe, nice one alex, but Holy Avenger or whatever the really, really good Paladin sword is, you cant get much better than +7 unless you cheat.
Kabuki Man Mon, 21st Apr '03, 4:29am Only an effective level 32 drow monk... How about a ring of greater spell resistance? (or two.. Then you are just evil)
There are many great spells in this game, but when they can't hit, and when they do, barely scratch you.. it's a waste to bother.. ^_^
Volsung Wed, 23rd Apr '03, 4:42pm Dman18 i wrote 13 special abilities  and you cling to the +10 enchantment?
Shadow Sword Fri, 25th Apr '03, 10:15pm I know that a bunch of you guys said that you liked the holy avenger, and the golden heart of *character name* how do you get these anyway I played the game through but never found them.
Gaius Sat, 26th Apr '03, 2:02am Golden Heart is the HOF version of Heart Of <Charname>.
Anyways, the single piece of equipment I'd want is the Horn Of Valhalla.
Pantathian Sat, 26th Apr '03, 8:50am I could not go past the Boots of speed, if I couldn't kill them I could always run!
But if I had to choose a weapon, it would have to be the Halberd of hate, one nasty little bugger. :D
K9999 Sat, 26th Apr '03, 10:19am One thing:
"How To Be An Adveturer" (2nd Ed.) 20,000 exp is a lot, you know.
Baezlebub Mon, 28th Apr '03, 5:13am It depends really. Either the bracers that you get off the genie, you know, +5 generic...
OR...
Staff of the Magi. Invisible and deadly.
Erran Mon, 28th Apr '03, 4:46pm Have to agree with the 'How to be an Aventurer' Tome. Thanks to that my sorcerer levelled up to 17th during the final battle. Like scoring a goal in extra time!
Paladin of Helm Mon, 28th Apr '03, 7:12pm I think I go on the Black Blade of Disaster which is of course permanent and not spell-summoned. too bad it doesn't exist in the game... :(
Master of Nuhn Mon, 28th Apr '03, 8:01pm Erm... Don't mean to startle or anything, but what use could you have of a non existing weapon? And it doesn't suit a Paladin of Helm quite good to use an evil sword, does it? ;) :p
I don't have many items to choose from yet. Gotta Houndstooth Collar that gives me immunity to fear and panic and the abilty to cast Beast Claws 1/day. I got that Moonblade of Selune with 1d8+2 magic damage. And some containers which I think are pretty usefull.
I think I'll go for the Moonblade.
Paladin of Helm Mon, 28th Apr '03, 8:29pm Erm... Don't mean to startle or anything, but what use could you have of a non existing weapon? And it doesn't suit a Paladin of Helm quite good to use an evil sword, does it?
Evil ? I didn't read the spell description that says it's got anything with evil. and even so, I don't care if it's evil as long as it's evil on evils bodies and not evil on the good ones... ;)
Master of Nuhn Tue, 29th Apr '03, 9:01pm Oops! Guess I'm mistaken once again... :heh:
I mixed up things. I thought about the Sword you can get in an other game by choosing an evil path (Martha must be there somewhere, but you didn't know until you got the sequal...)
Urgazhi Thu, 1st May '03, 11:04am I think there was a sword in BG2 that you got from your brother or something but if you gave it to an imprisoned genie, you solved the quest. This was disapointing as the sword was pretty good. (cant remember the stats, can anyone else?) or am i completely off course?
Volsung Thu, 1st May '03, 7:12pm The name is Blackrazor(I think)and it's a +3 longsword(or bastard sword) with some other special abilities(I don't remember, it's been a year since i last played the game). The bad thing- for me- is that it can only be used by evil characters. And it's not necessary to give the sword to the genie to complete the quest.
JSBB Thu, 1st May '03, 7:29pm The name is Blackrazor(I think)and it's a +3 longsword(or bastard sword) with some other special abilities(I don't remember, it's been a year since i last played the game). The bad thing- for me- is that it can only be used by evil characters. And it's not necessary to give the sword to the genie to complete the quest. The sword's name is Blackrazor, I am pretty sure that it is a longsword +3 and its special ability was a % chance to level drain whenever you hit an opponent (which was really cheesy given the low number of levels that most opponents had). Also, you could either give the sword to the genie (the good path)or kill the genie using the sword (the evil path).
Blackthorne TA Thu, 1st May '03, 7:30pm Since this is the IWD2 forum, you should stick with discussing IWD2 equipment.
Kabuki Man Sun, 4th May '03, 11:16pm But the thread asked about Equipment, There were Several Items not from IWD2, No Worries, Right?
I've Heard some nifty Ideas, Though i still think the most Useful item was the Bag of Holding/Mercenaries Sack..
But that's just one of those things..
**Coming Soon: Favorite Boss Battle!**
Urgazhi Mon, 5th May '03, 10:30am what exactly is the difference between the mercenary sack and the bag of holding?
Kabuki Man Sun, 11th May '03, 8:24pm Urgazhi: They are exactly the same. Same stats, Different Desc.
It acts as a second bag of Holding, since if you dupe it, they just connect.. hehe
ubyduby Mon, 12th May '03, 6:32am magic bag of holding helps a TON
Lupinal Tue, 13th May '03, 4:23am Limiting it to IWD, I haven't got far enough yet to see 99% of the items I could be picking, but the Mail of Life is pretty sweet. Bonus hps and regeneration and decent armor to boot.
If its anything, then I'd really love to have a Solar's sword. You could probably cleave through a car with one of those things. Assuming you could actually lift it and use it...
Urgazhi Tue, 13th May '03, 9:13am bit off topic - does anyone remember the moonblade from BG1? the one Xan (right name?) has to use? i loved how it glowed with those blue flames. i think its one of the best looking weapons.
Volsung Tue, 13th May '03, 6:05pm Flaming Tongue is also very good(in BG1): +1 longsword, +2 vs.regenerating creatures, +3 vs. cold/fire using creatures, +4 vs. undead.
I gave this sword to Ajantis and Moonblade to Xan. COOL  ;)
Ilmyrr Zaughym Thu, 15th May '03, 12:19am ...Well, my Svirfneblin monk runs around naked all the time...She's a REAL monk, and has no need for material 'goods'...Check out the stats for Svirfneblin, then stats for monk, what else do You need? The rest is just roleplaying-the REASON why she's naked:)
