View Full Version : Potion of Invulnerability?

I am tired of getting shredded on the battlesquares when facing Remorraz. I want to use potion of Invulnerability, which says +10 armor bonus only usable by warriors.

I have a fighter 4/ paladin 6, which between the 2 warrior types, I have to think certainly makes me a warrior.

When I try to use it, I always get strange music (sounds like something wrong), and nothing happens. I've tried also without any buffs and without armor, and it still fails. Any clues?

I've tried using absorption instead against bludgeoning monsters but I still seem to get hit just as often and all I see show up on the player record is protection from electricity. How can I tell if it is actually giving me an AC bonus against bludgeoning attacks?

It could be a poisoned potion.

Check the item description and see if it says something like, "But it seems strange somehow", or "An odd odor escapes from the bottle", or such. IWD2 has lots of fake potions like that - you have to be careful what you drink.

You could also take the easy way out (like I did-- I had a horrible time with those Rehmorrazes too), and just save after each successful battle (you can save after the Golem says, "select destination square").

Then select a square, and if you get a Rehmorraz, then just reload the save and try again until you get something that won't shred you.

It's kind of an annoying workaround, but when you have 250 battles to fight it can hardly be more annoying than it is already.... especially when so many of those battles are against either Rehmorraz or those Greater Teleporting things (forgot what they're called) that zip off to the Holding room before you can kick their butt.

The same thing happened to me when I tried to use the invulnerability potion, tgardecki, right down to the "not working" sound and the lack of anything happening. I dunno why... Maybe you specifically can't use it in Battlesquares?

You know, its kinda easier if you have a wizard that can use "stoneskin" that gives you 10/1 resistance against pierce blug and slash. Haste is good too.

Beware of the high fire damage of the Remorhaz however. It goes through stoneskin.
Avoid melee fight without proper protections.
Remorhaz has weak armor class however, so a lot of damage can be dealt to it (because the most of the attacks will hit)

Yeah, thats true. But, They only do about 10-20 damage per hit. It really didn't matter... unless you got a low life fighter :x. You can use fire resistance if you have it. ^_^ That will help out some.

Certainly the difficulty level also matters a lot.

very easy is like 2-5 fire damage taken.
Normal is 8-14.
Very hard is like 20+. (im guessing but it sounds right ^_^).

I've had my Barbarian scream under a Remorazz after some 14 Fire damage and 40-50 Bludgeoning damage. Stoneskin does help.

You can have Zack give you Haste, Stoneskin and Fire Shield : Blue if you think you are gonna face Remorazz, which SHOULD typically be after Level 3.

I wonder if you could try the door trick that can be used against Frost Giants. Then it would be easy ......hmm.

Haste and Fireshield: Blue both last only 1 round/level. By the time you get to the battle arena, they'll have worn off. You don't face any more rhemoraz after you rescue Zack unless you use the battle arena or someone summons one, but the latter should only occur at very later portions of the game.

Stoneskin itself does not absorb/prevent fire damage.

Are summoned monsters removed from the room like party members? If not you could try this:
1. Summon a monster
2. Cast otilukes resilent sphere on it
3. Send it to the place the monster will apear

Now you have a invulnerable tank against the monster (ok, the summon can't deal damage, but at least it can tank.).

It depends on the version of the game you have. If you have 2.00, the summons will disappear from the room if they get too close to the ice golem champion at the door. The ice golem champion will ocassionally wander into the room next to your summons. I believe this is triggered by a summon being too near it when the fight starts. Another condition under which summons will be transported to the waiting room is if your character gets too close to them. In 2.01, however, they will be transported away as soon as they hit the creature.

Well, if it is only ported away when it hits the target, then it's no problem because it can't hit the creature because of the otiluke.

Thanks for all of your help!

The potion was bogus after all, and I did complete the battlesquares.

The remmorhaz ended up being the toughest of all of the creatures for me, but I did beat it consistently before all of the buffs wore off. After they did, I had to reload when I got a remorrhaz or an elder elemental that wasn't disrupted with the club. Other than that, the battle squares was easy, even on very hard difficulty level, due to lots of super-easy monsters like the corungon that pop up in ranks 8-10.

Thanks to all again!
