View Full Version : Too little damage
chevalier Sun, 8th Aug '04, 11:40pm My character with Weapon Specialisation, +2 weapon and no STR penalty has somehow managed to deliver 1 (one) point of damage to a creature with no damage resistance (it notifies you when the enemy's damage resistance prevents your damage). How comes? Just a bug or am I missing something in the rules?

Harbourboy Sun, 8th Aug '04, 11:46pm Hmmm. The only other things I can think of that you haven't mentioned are some sort of temporary spell effect that drains strength. Otherwise, sounds very odd.
Menion Leah Mon, 9th Aug '04, 12:49am AFAIK the +2 means that there is an attack bonus of +2, so that doesn't necessarily do anything for your damage and I think Weapon Specialisation gives +1 to attack bonus.
So you basically have no damage modifiers (assuming your STR is 10) and that would mean that a 1d(something)-weapon could only do one damage.
And I also heard that tiny characters do less damage, but I thought that was just for monks.
Harbourboy Mon, 9th Aug '04, 3:55am I thought Weapon Specialisation was the +2 to damage and the Weapon Focus was the +1 to attack?
I've never heard of small characters doing less damage in Icewind Dale II. That sounds like one of the other games (Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter Nights?)
Blue Loon Mon, 9th Aug '04, 4:00am No, chev is right. Speciaalization add +2 to damage.
The only thing I can think of is, you are using a diferent weapon than the one you specialized in.
// sometimes weapons have a -1 to damage

You can click on 'The Monk' and then on 'Small onk Damage and Speed'. But I think that this is only for monks...
You guys are right about Weapon Specialisation, so I guess 1 damage is pretty weird then.
Vassago Mon, 9th Aug '04, 7:56pm Menion, the monk damage chart is for when a monk is fighting bare-fisted. In theory, your monk should not wear any armor (b/c he gets additional AC from WIS) and he should fight bare-fisted. However, in the earlier levels, it's better to have him armed w/ a weapon.
chevalier Mon, 9th Aug '04, 9:02pm Weapon Specialisation gives +2 and, given there's no STR penalty, nor any harmful spell effect in place, damage done with weapon in which you're specialised should never fall below 3 on the lowest roll.
If it happened once or twice, I would probably think I hadn't noticed some harmful spell cast on me. However, that wasn't the case. In fact, I even had beneficient spells cast on myself in addition to having an enchanted weapon. On the lowest roll it should be at least:
1 (dice) + 2 (Specialisation) + 2 (+2 weapon) +1 (STR bonus) = 6
Of course, I didn't only get 1. I got various too low results, but a blatant 1 when you're using a weapon in which you're specialised draws attention immediately.
Menion Leah Tue, 10th Aug '04, 12:31am Hmm, what does it say in the Character screen of your character? Somewhere in the second tab it reads what your damage range should be.
Gothmog• Tue, 10th Aug '04, 9:22am If you're using some type of magical weapon - created by a spell, it might not equip the previous weapon back. It may show as if it is, but in fact it might not. That way you'd be using fists with no specialisation, magical weapon damage. It still wouldnt explain 1 since you do have some strenght bonus.
Try looking at that screen, if it does show that you're wielding that particiular +2 weapon. Even if it does and you're still getting low damage try clicking on the weapon for good measure :)
