No, nothing's been announced, or even mentioned for that matter. But rest assured, we'll report straight it away if they do. (And if Black Isle tradition holds true, they just might).

Actually on mention of expansion both Josh Sawyer (lead designer) and Chad Nicolas (scriptor) say:
NO.

I would say to wait until a little over a year has passed since the game was first released... about that time they will announce an expansion pack... it will rekindle current owner's interest, and generate a little more sales revenue for the original game... then the expansion will be released.

then, possibly a collector's edition.

then, probably a boxed set collector's edition.

it's all about the money.

and there is likely some good money in an expansion for IwDII, imho.

I have just tonight finally started playing IWD2 (i've had it since X-mas, never touched it). I'd certainly buy an expansion if they did release one (but sady by what Ex posted, that won't happen), just as long as it's ALOT better than HOW was.

I enjoyed IWD2, but there is unlikely to be any expansion. IWD2 was meant to be a quicky project to help gather funds for BIS' other projects (such as Jefferson). It's development was twice as long as they thought it would be (due to switching to 3E) and I don't forsee that a (good) expansion pack would be worth the time it took to make. ALL the IWD2 team has since been moved to Jefferson, so even if there was an expansion it would not be till well after jefferson was on sale.

I think it says a lot about BIS that their "quicky" project beats other games hands down. *cough* POR2 *cough*

It's not so much the resounding NO from the BIS team, but the imaginative threats of violence and sinister applications of pain that drive the point home (not to mention death threats against family members).
An official expansion isn't going to happen. BIS are working on Jefferson right now and looking ahead to new projects, not back to expansion packs.
I suspect there will be some user-made mods though over time...

I'd love an expansion for IWD2, but I'm not going to hope, wish or pray for one. BIS don't want to make one and unless Interplay forces them to do it, Black Isle are done with IWD2. And the only way Interplay would force them to make an expansion would be because of sales, and I don't think IWD2 sold to the extent that an expansion would cause a major financial boon for Interplay.

I think there should be an expansion pack - even it's just a downloadable thing. Something enabling you to visit the places in orignal IWD, I'd like to Easthaven has changed and if it has anything to remember the previous adventurers by.

But don't forget that you couldn't reach lvl 15 or 16 in IWD 1 so they made an expansion and an expansion to 1t expansion
