I finished my first game of BG2 and I probably gonna play with a monk next time, but I have a few monk questions.

A monk is a priest but do they need a high wisdom?

Howmany hitpoints do monks get per level? (2 just like druids&cleric?)

P.S. did everybody thinks the final battle with Jon was too easy? I had more trouble killing that shadow dragon in the Temple Ruins that killing Irenicus.

Hmmz I didn't even know a monk is priest... A monk with high constitution has about 60 hit-points so that's indeed about the same as a druid.

Well Jon is harder then the Dragon but when you fight the dragon, your some levels lower and your equipment isn't that good...... But in my opinion, he's realy too easy to beat yes.

the monk is classified as a figther..

though it would be more practical to classify im as a cleric

No the Monk is not classified. You can choose for fighter, ranger, druid etc. AND Monk, it's a class, not a subclass of the fighter or Druid-class.

Yeah, but if you choose a Monk, you can get D'Arnise Hold, which is only available to fighter classes.
So I'd say, he's a fighter.

Well at least he acts like a fighter.... so I think you're right

in the manual the monk is set under the priests entry, and he indeed gets the same hit points and he uses the xp table as the cleric so i would put him in that direction

so the monk needs high strenght and constitution, but the monk that I made with a con of 18 started with 40HP and not 60 like Headbanger said

Then you had tough luck!
Becasue the computer rolls for you.
I once started as a monk, to see what he could, and I set the game easier, one point to the left of the core rules, which gives you max hitpoints per level and I started with 70 hitpoints.
When I started a real game, I began with 81 hitpoints, when I later started a game with a barbarian to play the tutorial, I wanted to see what they would tell you there, he had 97 hitpoints, so I was in a bad mood.
It's all in the roll, which is made by the computer.

With core rules you should expect somewhere around 7*(4.5+2)=45.5 hp (assuming start level 7 and con of 16-18).

With 'Normal' setting you should get the full 7*(8+2)=70 hp.

The Monk is considered to be a priest. That means that he can cast priest spells from scrolls(utilize this!) and that he does not benefit from a Con higher than 16. He levels up as cleric. This means that when you start the game, assuming normal rules(not core rules), he will have 56/63/70 Hp depending on Con (14 or below)/15/(16 or higher).

The monk is not considered a priest. He's more like a hybrid betwween a priest and a fighter. he can cast priest scrols. he is classified as a fighter though. because he gets the fighter stronghold and he is a supreme fighter.

You donīt get to be a fighter-class just because you can fight well. What determines which class you belong to? Well, what separates the different classes? Among the more important ones include; increasing THAC0, reducing saving throws, gaining hitpoints. The monk follows the tables concerning the cleric in all these cases, hence should be considered a cleric. The fact that he would kick any barbarian/fighter/paladin all the way back to the dark forests in Smaland at high enough level does not change that fact.

A monk is considert a fighter, because his role in battle is that of a fighter.

People (Nightal) read the game manual! The monk is classified as a priest: cleric, druid, monk. It doesn't matter what role the monk plays in your party, the class is the clearly defined. If you want to argue, at least be informed.

Kudos to Firestorm and Teacher for actually reading the manual! :D

Come on M'Lady, everyone knows that real men don't need or have use for instruction booklets! I never ask for directions and I never get lost. :)

Is it verified that the monk gets the fighter stronghold? Seems curious to me... couldn't a monk have a cleric stronghold, or a separate monk stronghold in the Brotherhood of the Most High Muckety-Mucks? Oversight on someone's part perhaps?

Why? A monk isn't classified as a fighter but he does act like one and that's what she need. And that's why you get the Fighter Stronghold. For what stronghold should he else gain?

i think clerics can be warriors too, not comparable to a fighter but still a warrior. so maybe the cleric stronghold seems a better fit, but that's just me
