View Full Version : A greeting, and a performance question

Hi everybody. :)
I've been browsing these forums for months now, and today I've decided to join up. I've been an avid RPG fan for years.
Currently I'm (trying) to play through Icewind Dale II, which leads me to my question:

I've been having horrible performance problems with the game. Yesterday I got to the second level of the Goblin Barracks, and the game became downright unplayable. The framerate became incredibly choppy, and the whole game is just brought down to a halt. Considering my machine is WAY over the requirements, and that the engine is four years old, I would expect nothing but the smoothest performance ;)
I tried disabling every option I could find, turning down pathfinding nods, even playing in a window, but to no avail.
My system specs:
- Pentium 4, 1700 mhz
- GeForce 4 Ti4200
- 256 mb SDRAM
- Windows XP Proffesional edition

Surely I should have no problems with the game, not to mention every other Infinity Engine game I got works just fine.
Can anyone help?

Get the Slowdown Fix from http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/IWD2/index_editors1.htm . That should fix your problem.

Btw someone said that pressing the inventory crashed his game.

How do you mean Khelben? That happened when they installed the slowdownfix-patch? Weird.

I've had the game crashing me on occasion, (no SDF-patch) especially shortly after quicksaving. It jumps back to windows. It's no big bother, seeing how I've just saved, but it can be annoying at times.

Yes, sadly the IE games have an odd tendency to crash now and again...
It's hardly a big deal, it's just that one could've expected BIS and Bioware would work out a fix for all those little quirks a long time ago.
Oh well.

Neither BIS nor Bioware is working on patches and they never will...
