hi everyone, i recently got BG2, and made a kensai, hes lvl 11 at the moment. my cousin says that i should duel class him to a kensai/mage ater on so he can use contingency and other mage spells and still se 2 weapons. i think its a good idea because kensai's cant use armor anyway.
what im wondering is, is it worth it?
will my kensai be as good as he would be if i left him and advanced in levels as a regular kensai?
and what level should i duel class him?
thx,
Icing Death
P.S. my kensais is currently using 2 longswords (daystar and adja the drinker/sword of balduran from the bonus CD)

Yes it's worth it, indeed. A powerful mix and you might even be able to carry robes, not bad either :)
If you want to know of tactics or anything you could use the search engine. But the kensai/mage is a very powerful combination
lvl 12 I think is a good one do dual at

You could wait until level 13 for the extra attack, but even dualling at level 12 means you wont get your kensai abilities back until near the end of the game. Your call though; if you plan to use an xp cap remover or install TOB its definitely worth the wait (or so I'm told :D )

i plan on getting the exp cap remover, and getting TOB in the next week or two, so what lvl should i wait at now?

As ToB is coming, you don't need that xp cap remover!

A Kensai/Mage in ToB probably needs to dual at 12 or 13 to have any chance of being an effective fighter. The main difference there being the extra attack, which prompts many people to wait until lvl 13.
Depending on how big a party you have and how thoroughly you search out the quests, you probably won't get your Kensai abilities back until very late in SoA. So, be aware that you will be playing a high hp mage for a significant portion of the game if you dual class him.
Kensai/Mage is a very popular choice, but Kensai/Thief is also powerful. It depends on what you want to do, really. A thief will have a lot of useful abilities in ToB and is one of the harder 'slots' to cover well anyway.
Of course, all this assumes you can actually Dual class. I assume you are human and have either an 17+ Int (for mage) or a 17+ Dex (for thief)? If not, that will solve your dilemma. :)
