Damn! Those 4 iron golems from the black raven monastery are pretty tough cookies. I fought them when most of my guys were level 12, except for my Aasimar, he was level 11. And i still couldn't beat them. They eliminated my summons in no time and my melee dudes were screaming medic every 2 or so rounds. Does anybody know a way i can take these 4 golems down?

son of a gun, I was just going to post the same question! But I think there is a part of this message board or another that lists how to defeat various creatures...
I am going to search. Or try the 'search' here....and I searched, just type 'golems' and Icewind dale II and you will get some threads.
But...yes, I had no idea how to kill them, and haste and run doesn't work because the...

'monsters' behind the next door swarm all over you and apparently the iron golems hate only you, (i kinda thought maybe I could turn them against the, oh what the hell, the Druegars, but no going) so now you have to fight...well, restart.
I am stuck. And what is there to loot? The tomb is empty, at least I think it is.
I have read all the threads I can find, and the solution is +3 weapons, but where so you get +3 weapons? What +3 weapons? Is the hammer of Lucern +3, and I may have a +3 short sword, I think, and where is this merchant you can purchase +3 weapons from...and can I get back to Talgos??..sorry.

I am just miffed at these golems.
I know how to kill them, and yet...
(my party is about 12th level as well)

Try stronger summon spells and elementals. If you have a Cleric of Selune or a wizard with Elemental Legion then you're all set. Pound for pound, an elemental beats any golem in a heavyweight bout. :) Otherwise sic a few barbs or fighters on them with attack buffs (bless, prayer etc.)Keep your spell casters away from their fumes, especially if they get disrupted easily. And try to isolate the golems so you fight one at a time (otiluke spheres or luring them into choke points.) Personally, I didn't think the golems were all that hard in either normal or HoF mode. Its when they get you pinned close and they're going after your spellcasters that you really get into problems.

yeah, and the worst thing about those things is that they're immune to web and stinking cloud. So you can't even neutralize one or two of them to make dealing with the rest of them easier.

Yeah and the tomb is no empty. The coffin in the middle of the room (the golems are facing it). It's got some stuff inside. Like 5 magic items or so.

do you wanna know how i found out? well i hasted my rogue. Hid her, RAN and opened the chest. I then ran out the north east exit thinking i would go to the next part of the game right? WRONG. so DO NOT try it. You won't be able to progress if you steal the stuff and not fight the golems.

But if you find a way of killing them tell me pleez. Coz i also have problems with my paladin and levels.

where can one find/buy an elemental legion scroll?
My wizard has no high level spells!
This may be bad...

My mistake,
I meant to say Cleric of Selune and Druid, not wizard. They're level 9 spells but basically I mean any high level summons (7 and up.) As for progressing, you CAN steal the stuff in the tomb and still go on, you just have to fight a bit more. Personally its more fun picking a fight with the golems don't you think? :)

frankly, i played that place several times but i still cannot find a way to kill them with average level 12 characters. i think you can only loot and run in this case. make sure you have a clear path beyond the door to exit before you do so.

Yeah but the time and casualties it takes doesn't make it all that worth while.

Just don't fight all 4 of them at the same time. They'll go down easily with +3 or better weapons ("brilliant" short sword too).

You can, for example, have your thief open the tomb, then run to right (east side), where they will slowly follow him. The rest of your party can then attack the last one in line, while your thief runs around in circles to keep them busy there.
I think Lance of Disruption did pretty good damage. They don't have that many hit points at all.

You can also not open the tomb now, leave to the underdark and you'll be able to buy good weapons there. Then come back to open the tomb.

There's also an east-west narrow passage where you can bottle-neck them if you want.

Don't disturb them at first, just go forward, clear everything in the chamber, open the door, clear everything (not that much), then go back to open the chest and run.. if you still wanna beat them go ahead, if not, you're fast enuough to get to the door. This way you get the treasure and don't have to fight.

Well heak, there's no way i'll be able to fight them now.

Hey when u told me i could try using elemental legion i thought u had left the chest for now and gone and levelled up. So do u know what i did? I went through the underdark and left it and went on to Kuldahar. Thinking i could get back somehow (Kiden's son is an idiot!). Now i can't get back (obviously) and i can't get the experience from the golems (**** the treasure, it was **** ne way).

Oh yeah and just so i know what i missed. How much experience did each of those golems give ne way.

Thirdly, i'm starting to see the real use of elementals now. Do you all know the part where you leave the Drow fortress (where the brain is). And you either intimidate the guy there or kill them? Yeah, that part. Well after that, i was told there was gonna be a difficult fight. So i buffed my guys (not too much, Bull strenght casting time was too long) and i exited. I met some of the fire mages and harpy's and stuff. And i beat them EASILY. and i didn't get much experience. And after the fight i checked the elementals health and their status was BARELY INJURED.

Now that makes you think elementals are the best. But then you think about how if get dispelled by a sadistic spell caster, ur elemental will rip u apart. And secondly, the don't listen to ur commands, meaning u can't tell them who to attack, making them very difficult to implement into ur strategy.

Now summon undead. That's good coz they get stronger as ur cleric gets stronger yes? But they are more frail as it seems. Now i just want to know, which is better. Because i don't have spell slots for both. Which should is stick with? Elementals or Golems?

I had trouble with these guys the first 2 tries, then I decided to make a break for it. And yes, I DID steal the stuff from the tomb, then ran right past the Duergar on to the Underdark. I did some stuff there, then came back and kicked the crap out of the Iron Golems after buying +3 items in the Underdark.

What I did previous to this:
My party is EVIL. I went and did the stuff at the Monastery, got in good with them, then I butchered every last one of them to finish the quest for those Duergar back at their place. Then I went back, got the experience, the nice items, and then I slaughtered the Duergar (oh, the carnage!) My group was about lvl 12, maybe only lvl 11 actually since they're lvl 14 fighting the yuan-ti guardian now. So anyway, yeah, ran down, grabbed the items, bolted for the door, ran past those stupid dwarves, did some stuff in the next section, came back, killed the dwarves, ran back to the monastery, and then came back killing one golem at a time (fighting them right at the point where you go back into the monastery so I can leave the area immediately) and then after finishing them, I laughed maniacally, did a little dance of "suck-it-down" and went on to the end of the Underdark.

I guess it was the whole "Killing the Duergar leaders back at their base" that made it feasible to escape. Go back, kill those midget bastards, and waltz past their reinforcements as you make your way to the Underdark.
