View Full Version : Soundsets
GabrielNYC Mon, 2nd Dec '02, 9:06pm To the person who made the Haerdalis and Yoshimo soundsets for IWD2, top notch work! I was wondering if you are going to make a Korgan one? I think his voice would go well with the other dwarf voice. Incidentally, the dwarf voice in IWD2 sounds ALOT like the Elder God in Soul Reaver 2... is it the same actor?

Khazraj Tue, 3rd Dec '02, 9:36am Wow, thanks for saying that you like them. I didn't make them, BIS did, I just ripped and renamed them...
Yes, I am hoping to do some more, just been very busy lately. Check it out in a couple of weeks, I'll probably send most of them to SP over the next few weeks.
I am planning on doing the characters "that I liked" from BG2, so if your favourite "Anomen" (joking) is not in the list, then sorry.
I want to do a Bodhi and Irenicus, just needs a little thought and time to edit the files.
Irenicus could make a nice drow?...
GabrielNYC Tue, 3rd Dec '02, 8:38pm Oh I agree Irenicus would make a GREAT Drow. The actor,David Warner , has that dry, smug english accent which would suit a powerhungry scheming Drow.
You know who also would make a good Drow?
Alan Rickman. I saw the Potter films with my son last month and he brilliant. He was great in that film about the IRA "Michael Collins" but he was so cool in the Potter films.
How does one rip sounds from BG2?

Baezlebub Tue, 3rd Dec '02, 10:39pm Its pretty simple, all you need is the infinity sound converter and WinBif (they should be available from Team BG, but search the net if you want). Just select the files that you want from one of the Chitin files that are in the directories from any infinity engine game. Then, choose the sound directory that shows up on the winbif window, and select your characters sounds. Then, extract them to a file and open up ISC. Select the files one by one and convert them to true Wav files. Arrange them in the correct order, which ever way that is stated in the sound folder of that game, and your done.
*Note*
I have finished my oswald fiddlebender set and am working on hrothgar. Might to the twins yet, ill need to see how many sounds they have first, though.
Oswald should be up soon.
Cheers.
Khazraj Wed, 4th Dec '02, 2:20am Gabriel. If you want sounds from BG2, BG1 or IWD1 you need a couple of programs. WinBiff to extract the files from the game and Infinity sound converter to convert the files from wavc to wav format so that you can easily edit and rename them. The best thing is to be able to hear them outside the game.
1. Get WinBiff here
http://www.teambg.com/?page=tools/basiccustomizing
2. Get Infinity sound converter here
http://www.teambg.com/?page=tools/othertools
With sound converter you need some basic Dos programs in your BG2 folder as well. If they are not in the zip at the link, send me a private message and I will zip and send them to you.
Using winbiff you need to locate the Chitin key file so that the program will "know where everything is". Once it has read all the files, look for the files called CHSnds and NPCSnds, or at least something quite similar. You should see a list of the NPC names and the associated sounds. Extract them all to a folder of your choice and naming.
Now using the Infinity Sound Converter, do a mass conversion of all the files in the folder from Wavc to Wav. Once it is finished you can use a simple windows program like Sound Recorder to edit and listen to the files.
The naming of the files so that IWD2 can use them is explained in the sounds folder readme in the IWD2/Sounds folder. It requires five letter name plus the correct number at the end of each file. Match the sound to the purpose of the file as the readme explains and then you have a new soundset.
To do a BG2 NPC such as Viconia simply requires extracting the files and renaming them to the IWD2 design, being about 80% similar.
To do a non-playable NPC like Bodhi or "Jonnie" requires some planning because they say a lot, but most of it is not really appropriate to a party. Imagine Jon saying as a Battle Cry, "Ah the Child of Bhall was awoken". See what I mean. SO bear with me and you should have some new "Christmas presents" soon.
PS. I have no experience with Plansescape Torment, but if that program uses the Infinity Engine, then I don't imagine the process would be much different.
And if you do a similar thing with IWD2 you can have your Drow, barbarian, sorcerer and monk voicesets for BG2!

I recently sent the Irenicus soundset to Tal for Sorcerer's Place, check it out at the next update of the site.
I am currently sending the Bodhi soundset and I have completed a set for Korgan, Gaelen Bayle and Xan from BG1. More coming soon.
Cheers.
