Is it possible? I mean Hardcore!! a character who gets to know immortality... A player who never dies... Coz im trying to do one! hehe As far as I know, I created a whole lot of characters and the farthest place Ive been is in the Hord fortress. Deep within the horde fortress I realized that Im 1 against 15+ goblins/15+ trolls/15+hob goblins and many others... Thats the moment my character died... /sob I really like the concept of portraying the Dark Elf Hero Drizzt Do'Urden hehe Post here if You have a solo character who never dies.

Yes, it is definitely possible to solo this game as it has been done by many people here. Some people even claim to have solo’d seemingly difficult characters like a pure Bard. A few insane souls believe they have solo’d the game on HoF mode as well.

General consensus seems to be that easiest solo in this game is the Deep Gnome Monk, thanks to his supernaturally high AC and his magic resistance. Chevalier would claim that his uber Paladin / Wizard is the easiest solo, whilst many others prefer the Paladin / Sorcerer. The Paladin / Sorcerer would be my choice.

The main problem with soloing Icewind Dale II is that you level up so quickly (due to getting all the XP) that, due to the challenge rating system of awarding XP, you reach various points in the game where you receive little or no XP for killing monsters. This can be a little bit annoying.

I've ONLY finished solo, though not HoF (not a masocist)

If you're looking for easy/fun solo, pure sorc is the way..

If you use weimer mods, xp isn't a problem, you hit lvl 30 in the Hand.

Paladin/sorcerer is easier, I just prefer paladin/wizard to be able to take levels interchangeably, although switching over also has merits, as well as having only charisma to raise. If you get a huge CHA score, even a couple of levels in the paladin class is going to make your Laying on Hands a life saver, not to mention untouchable saving throws.

No XP from kills is annoying because it makes the game run like an adventure game rather than RPG and adventure games have some different focuses than what is expected of an attempt at cRPG, so IWD 2 doesn't make it.

Whatever you choose, remember that spellswords with spells get higher Attack Bonus and Armour Class (let alone other special protections) than full time tanks could ever achieve. Even a fighter(4)/cleric(X) can outmatch a fighter easily in statistics alone when buffed.

Consider a level 30 character. Fighter gets 30 to hit. Cleric gets 22. Fighter(4)/cleric(26) gets 23. It's granted that there's also going to be a difference in strength, but clerics have quite a lot of buffs to boost to hit bonuses and even damage. It's just you normally use the slots up for healing, protections and whole-party buffs. But a solo cleric would be a killing machine. And think about all the healing. Level 30... just make the Concentration check and you can heal yourself fully like what? Six times? Seven times? Not to mention all your five greater elementals running in after you're done with Holy Fire.

But it's not like a near full time mage won't own it. Something like a goody aasimar paladin(1)/sorcerer(29) is going to be both untouchable and unstoppable. Casting owns it in this game.

Aye casting owns, and most of the good spells are arcane. I tried a solo cleric a couple of times. Got bored to death before the bridge.

With a solo cleric, what detity do you recommend?

There are several cool cleric domains. The best thing is that these domains actually have some impact on the game. They all have pros and cons depending on how you're going to play.

I'd recommend Dreadmaster of Bane, but only if you want to play that alignment.

Bane, Ilmater, Mask, Talos give the best domain spells.
Baneintes get a little extra help sometime during the game while Talosians can boss everyone around.

Tempus or Ilmater for melee-oriented ones. Helm for something still physical but more tactical. Lathander for a big smiter. I had a Lathander cleric with Spell Penetration, Spell Focus: Evocation and Spirit of Flame. He went with the sorceresses when it came to clearing a room from behind the tanks' backs.

Bane is my personal favorite - I like to invoke tyranny and break people's minds. ;) Plus you get a little nod later in the storyline. Talassans get good spells (guess what alignment my parties tend to be?). It always bothered me that Tempus was the god of war, because the word Tempus means "time" in Latin.

I kind of torn between who I want to play as solo next. I was thinking of a Cleric b/c of this thread, but after reading a thread on another board, I'm thinking about a Drow Ranger. Maybe I'll just play a duo game and use both. Good Male Drow Ranger and an Evil Female Cleric. Well, I'll have to wait till I'm finished with my solo Monk. I just reached third level of Dragon's Eye last night. Been too sick to play lately.

In IWD:HoW you hear the barbarian leader say that the name is actually 'Tempos' and the new people had not only stolen their god but also changed his identity, his name.

Rangers are good? In IWD II? could you please give me a link to this place. This I want to see with my own eyes.

Ah, that explains Tempus. I never reached that part in Heart of Winter. As for Rangers, apparently if your guy is something like Ranger 1 / Rogue 3 / Demarch of Mask x you can backstab in an ungodly manner with two weapons. Or something.

I know I'm a little off topic but is it just me or are druids awsome in IWD2. My level 5 druid with barkskin and the flamesword spell took the carevan bridge by himself. I was getting one hit kills, the entire enemy force barely landed a hit on me. I'm used to BG weakling druids, not this! DRUIDS ROCK! :D

A druid with Spell Penetration (2) and Spell Focus: Evocation (2) plus elemental feats (e.g. Spirit of Flame) is a killer. In this game, nothing prevents you from casting druidic spells while wearing metal armour or using un-druidic weapons, so fighter levels are quite profitable, if only just one. Ranger for dual-wielding if you stick to light armour. Barbarian for the speed. Rogue for evasion.

Actually, a Lawful Neutral monk/druid focused on DEX and WIS would be awesome.

And here are some screenshots of my paladin/wizard from SP Screenshots of the Week archive:

Totally insane pictures chevalier, your guy rocks! 66 slashing damage, it looks like you've been putting some hurtin' on those demons! :D
