Can they? I thought only the humans, elves and half-elves could have romances.

And Melkhior, why are you posting so many thing that you can find out yourself if you just use the search option, all the things you ask are asked before.

hmm, I think that half-orcs, with dwarfs (btw - has anyone tried a gnome?) *cannot* have a romance. In fact I´m pretty sure here. Slappy ? ;) :D

Antoine: You forgot halflings - they can get a romance either.

I haven't tried a gnome. Ironbeard assures us though that Dwarves get no horizontal joy. I have seen it said often that only Humans, Elves and Half Elves get romances (in fact I think it says this in the new omance guide that Tal has posted). The one I question though is Halflings. For my first game of BG2 I was a Halfling Cleric. I am sure that Jaheira and Aerie were both coming on to me and they frequently argued amonst themsleves. When I had to choose, I went for Jaheira. Unfortunately, I blew that romance (since rectified ;)). This suggests to me that Halflings can have romances but I can't prove it because I didn't complete one. Any other thoughts?

PS I just had a quick search through some forums to chase the hlafling issue and found out that they can have romances. But far more importantlt, so can any race with just a quick bit of editing. Anyway here is the post I found enjoy:

By far the most likely suggestion is that you are not racially compatible. The Viconia romance requires that you be a human, half-elf or halfling (and with the Baldurdash fix, half-orc). The Viconia Lovetalk gets set to 1 before the racial requirement is checked, but any further increase only happens after the first check.

You can check this yourself in ShadowKeeper by looking for a global variable called ViconiaMatch. If it's 1, then the racial requirement has been fulfilled; if it's 0 or doesn't exist, then it hasn't been fulfilled, which is why there is a problem.

If you still want to do the romance with a character who doesn't fulfill the racial requirement, you can simply create a global variable called ViconiaMatch (if you don;t have one already) and set it to 1, and also create (or modify if it exists) a global variable called CheckViconiaMatch and set it to 1, and then you'll be fine."

Presumably the same applies to the other romance options, you just chnage the variable in question to JaheiraMatch or AerieMatch.

The game story was obviously made by racists.

As noted, half-orcs were intended to be able to have a romance with Viconia, but this didn't get setup in the game that shipped, and can only happen if you use the Baldurdash patch.

Arg, methinks halflings can't have romances.
It's just a certain halfling, who was made of a human pally, therefore having human char variables. :)

You´re wrong - my halfling cavalier´s ability to romance comes from the kit ;)

I heard a lot about those halfling cavaliers but how in the nine hells can a halfling become a paladin

TIN_MAN

In no way! Only humans can be paladins.

But in 3E they can become pallys - I´m just ahead of time ;)

I think I'll have to readdress my posting strategy - it seems no one reads anything longer than two lines. Certainly no one seems to have read any of the stuff in my post judging from the posts following it :(

Melkhior - the baldursash patch is as follows "Half-Orc/Viconia Romance & Drow Item/Avatar Fix fixes three bugs in one file: male Half-Orcs were supposed to be able to romance Viconia, the exploit of kicking characters out in the Underdark and keeping their Drow Adamantine armour and weapons when they rejoin later, as well as the characters still having the Drow avatar for the remainder of the game, even if they left on their own.(Note: The romance fix was released previously. The version of this script that completely eliminates the romance racial checks is on the main page; this version doesn't do that as it's a bugfix. The romance fix will not affect current savegames; a new game must be started for this fix to take effect.)"

You can get it from here:
http://members.home.net/mrkevvy/fixes.html (near the bottom of the page)

PS Sorry Tal I tried to post the specific address of the one file but I couldn't get it.

download it and read the readme. It's all in there (can't remember who can and can't get romances because I deleted the file)

/me starts crying into his beer before shaking himself and starting again.

Cough Cough

ANY RACE can have a romance if you follow the instructions I posted above.

THE BALDURDAS patch fixes the game so that Half-Orcs (not dwarves) can romance Viconia.

THE ROMANCE PATCH fixes it so that any race can have any romance and all romances can proceed in parallel.

Everyone clear now?
