I'm considering building a new party and I was wondering- does anybody have an opinion on the Paladin of Mystra kit? It sounds like a good class for a Drow, but I'm leery of anything that relies on all 6 attributes. Also, is it better to go mostly paladin, mostly wizard, or balanced?

In my humble opinion, if you are going to build a wizard you probably want to get as many wizard levels as possible. I like to use elves for my wizards or sorcerers and then take one or two levels of fighter or ranger. If I were going to make a Paladin of Mystra I would go with between 1 and 4 levels of Paladin and then the rest for Wizard. That way you get to the really kicking spells. Remember Paladins need lots of points spread out across every attribute except Dex and Int, these are key attributes for wizards. It will probably be difficult to create an effective character with high enough stats to be effective in both areas. Plus if you want a hack and slash fighting Paladin, wearing heavy armor is helpful and the few hit points you get for your Wizard levels are not. Robes and even bracers don’t always cut it in melee combat (Indominable bands are probably the exception). Plus you have to get your Paladin over level 8 (in Pali levels) to get some of the better feats like improved critical and fiend slayer…
Plus if you are considering Drow as the race you are looking at some level penalties as well...
Now, don’t get me wrong. I think this can be a good kit, you will just have to get some levels in each class before the character will be as effective as your other characters.
