View Full Version : characters gaining experience at different rate
YoManGoMan Fri, 30th May '03, 1:54am Well, the title is self explaining : I've just started playing iwdII and I noticed my paladin gains Xps at little faster than anyone else.
That's not much but I've seen no reason for this. Has anyone got an explaination ?

Bartholomew Fri, 30th May '03, 2:28am Is your paladin the party leader? The way XP seems to be distributed, based on my experience with the game, is this:
Say you have a 6-person party and get 100 xp.
100/6= 16 with a remainder of 4. Each party member gets 16 experience, and the first four chars in the queue each get an additional 1 pt. In effect, chars 1-4 each get 17 pts and chars 5,6 get 16 points.
The person at the head of the queue always gets a remainder point, if there is one. The person at the end of the queue never does. Over the course of the game, if you never switch your party order, the leader will be about 2 levels above the person at the end of the formation, and about 1 level above the people in the middle of the formation.
I played it through about 4 times, with four different parties, and the last couple of times I was watching this particular phenomenon to try to figure out what the math was. This is the conclusion I reached.
YoManGoMan Sat, 31st May '03, 6:35pm Thanks for the answer, Bartholomew. In fact, the
paladin is the leader, my party consists of three adventurers, and since the numbers of xps you get at the begining of the game are, if i remember correctly, among 37, 300, 400 and 75 (all numbers are of the form 3*n or 3*n+1), this should explain why the two other caracters have the same number of xps.
Quicho Tue, 3rd Jun '03, 8:06am I think there is an exception to this rule.
I'm going with rogue-in-melee-sorcerer-barbardment strategy. One my rogue was nearly to die. I casted Otiluke's resilient sphere on him. Then beaten all badies with the rest of my party. And rogue within this sphere got not XP.
YoManGoMan Wed, 4th Jun '03, 2:19pm Yes, probably because your rogue was considered to be "out of combat". In the same way, I didn't check, but dead or unconcious characters probably get no XP at the end of a fight.
Krysalyn Wed, 4th Jun '03, 8:08pm dead characters definitely get no exp rewards that accrue for the rest of the party while they are dead...
I dont know about unconscious, I would guess that they do get experience in that case...
the sphere results in them being un-interactible with any other creature in the game, which probably results in them getting no exp...
Quicho Fri, 6th Jun '03, 9:59am This was the result for me in this case too (his not within the battle). But when he kills someone while scouting without help from anyone else, XP is still divided - other party members are not within "battle" in this case too. I understand, that it would be hard to code the "within battle" decission system.
I tried to bring my little piece to the XP distribution rule.
I didn't notice this with unconscious or dead characters.
Nakia Thu, 26th Jun '03, 10:00pm I believe that correcting XP is a justifiable use of the cheat codes. The using of cheat codes is of course a very personal matter and this is not intended to start an agrument for or against. I use it without qualms to keep everyone the same.
