He's actually one of the more important characters in the temple, and one you shouldn't kill. He'll attack you if you try to loot his cabinet when he's up, so you need to do it before you wake him up. You can also promise him a favour that he'll collect on later in the game. (If that's part of another quest or not I'm not sure.)

He can tell you how all the traps and machinery in the temple works, and it'll go into your journal as handy reference. He can also repair Oswald's ship, if you haven't done it yet by the time you see him.

Tal, this is true. I know this bit, but what was "odd" was the fact that when he is not useful after fulfilling his favour you can kill him. This I did and with the club of disruption. I have the screenshot too!

It simply proves that Nick is a little bit "other than human"...

AFAIK, Nickademus is an "outsider" just like those demons which he summoned to this world and trapped in temple.

I am not sure but I think he mentioned something like that when he speak the gelugon at the beginning of Ice Temple revisit.
As I said, I am not sure. Maybe I misunderstood him and get a wrong clue.
However, if Nick is subject to disruption, I think I am right.
