Thanks what do you play as good or evil and do you use magick or tec?

I have fallen deeply in love with beautiful Arcanum!!!

For the last couple days, I have experienced one of the most excellent games I have ever played.

To answer your question (or blunt statement, I guess): I always pump my guy up with melee and strength, dexterity, never mess around with techno or magic. Game is simpler, although less fun, that way.

Well, I think thieving skills are pretty useful in the game. But for the choice between magick and tech, I'd choose magic.

Why? Because magick rocks. Period. Oh, and the teleportation spell is extremely useful.
But this doesn't mean you shouldn't play with a techie. Nice gaming as well.

As for the good/evil choice, you can choose whichever you want. The game presents equal opportunity for both extremes.

Can you explain the hole apperence master expert thing??

Have you ever played the might and magic games?

It works exactly like that (the Expert and Master thing)

gollum

No I have not played the might and magic games. After I become an apperentance I build up melee up every level but it say apperentance still when its more than 1/2 red?

Blackthorne TA

You have to have someone train you to become an Apprentice, Expert or Master, and they won't train you unless your skill is high enough (the red line is long enough).

As to your other question, my character ended up a Master of Melee, Dodge and Bow with a 22 Dex and 100% Magic Aptitude.

Have any of you ever used the WorldEd feature? I am having problems accessing the MapList.mes file, as when I save a mod, there is no directory in the modules folder, merely a .DAT file

Xaelifer, you need newest patch. Read all about it on the page you're downloading that patch from.

Alright, I give up. I need help.

After many times trying, I can't beat the game by the peaceful solution. Even with a 20 in persuasion, and the master status, whatever I say to him leads to a fight.

I dislike asking people for solutions but I'm beat. To anybody who succeded, know which conversation threads you used and what were your stats then?

I'm not too sure, for I haven't got that far (I stopped playing the game for a while), but I would imagine that you would need a high charisma or intelligence.

Rhythm
Thu, 20th Dec '01, 1:20pm
Wait a minute, did I say 20 in persuasion? I meant 20 in charisma. I also have a 20 in intelligence as well as beauty. All talk no action kind of guy.

Wildfire

20 in Charisma, Beauty and Intelligence, as well as master in persuasion? Wow, did you use your character poinst in anything but stats? ;) :p

Hmm.. I have no idea, as I said, I haven't got that far. Best wait for someone like Extremist who knows the game well to see this.

Rhythm (In regard to your comment below): LOL!

Yep, he's the epitome of a charming, handsome and intelligent character. That means he's a wussy and can't even hold a sword right. ;)

Who are you talking about here? I don't understand - "you can't beat the game". The game contains number of possible enemies to deal peacefully.

Whoops, sorry, my mistake. I forgot to mention who I was talking to. I meant the end-boss (what's his name again?). You know, you can either fight him or talk your way out of it.

Not exactly.

At the end you must choose to join Arronax or that other "life hating" guy (*shrug* I forgot his name)...
You can't avoid the last battle. You simply can't. Either you fight first one or the other one.

Who told you that there is a peaceful solution anyway?

Rhythm
Sat, 22nd Dec '01, 3:47am
WHAT?! My friend told me he won with the peaceful solution (though he wouldn't tell me how). Are you sure about that Ex? There is a conversation thread to try and persuade him. My 'friend' said if you manage to persuade him, he'll let you use the Vendrigoth device on him. If it makes a difference, Arronax joined me.

How do I get to island of dispare?

Rhythm, it is possible that I'm wrong about it. But I don't believe you can outsmart that one.

Gollum, go to the city on the east coast called Ashbury and talk to captain in the port.

Rhythm I would suggest posting this over on an Arcanum board and seeing if they could help.I played thru with a persuasion master and couldn't get a peaceful solution even though it's said that it can be done and I was powerful enough to have Raven and Z'an Al'urin in the party at the same time. Good luck.

I have the strangest problem. Suddenly I can't open barrels, trash bins, containers of any kind. Happened down in the black mountain clan mines.

Could it be some option I turned off or something, cause when I load a previous savegame I don't have the problem....

Turambar- could it have anything to do with your pack being full? I couldn't seem to pick anything up for a while and that turned out to be the problem for me.

I need help too: Is there any way to encourage followers to use their unique skills? My char doesn't have any thief skills but my followers do- and I can't seem to get them to use them. I have purchased some lock picks and try to use them on locked chests and things, and theoretically this should encourage my followers to jump in and help- but they don't. Any suggestions?

My suggestion is that you place lockpicks in inventory of those NPCs.

I can't be sure about this - I had the best lockpick skill in the party so I always used it myself.

There are two things that need to be done for an NPC to attempt to pick locks for you. The first one is that "Follower skills" be turned on in the game options menu. The second is that you need two sets of lock-picks. Give one set to the NPC that you want to pick locks and put the other set in your quick inventory. You also have to position yourself and the NPC so they have access to the lock, if you block direct access they won't go atround.

Thanks! One more question - for now - how do you use the manuals from the university? I bought several and now can't figure out how to get the benefit. There's nothing on the Terra Arcanum web site about this.

Note to Arcanum developers, should you happen upon this: the manual bites hairy birds. You need a really good technical writer who loves games to solve this problem for you. I'm available if you can afford me. ;)

Wildfire
Tue, 1st Jan '02, 11:46pm
Ok, those tech manuals are only useful to help you use the found schematics.

What they do is raise your aptitude in whatever area, e.g. guns, explosives etc, by your intelligence per manaul if you see what I mean. I.E. if you had a found schematic for something that required you to have at least 15 aptitude in explosives and 25 in guns, and you have points in guns, but not explosives, you go buy one of these manuals, just leave it in your inventory, you don't need to do anything special with it, if, for example, you have 20 intelligence, then you will meet the requirements and be able to make the item (if you have the correct parts).

It is a particularly clear definition, but then again, it isn't that easy to explain ;) :D.

Im down in the sewers below Caladon and im fighting the stormknights. But two of the is at the other side of the door and I cant get to them. Are they blocking the door or do I need something to open it?

On the murder quest. I have found the green writing with the demons name. What do I do now? I have talked to police and they say I should find a demonologist. Where is one?

Avarahtar

A Demonologist can be found back in Tarrant at the University.
I don't really remember any stormknights though.

Hmmm. It has been brought to my attention that you COULD also just send a telegram to Tarrant....

Or just go to the telegram office down the street deom the police office. If you hace done certain things in Tarant (I forget which :D) you will just be able to send a telgram to the demonologist. You don't even have to leave the town. :) :D

Also, I have no memories of these storm knights.

You had to have met the demonologist in Tarant in order to be able to send a telegram to him.

Do you mean the door that you can only knock three times on? If you're not persuasive enough to get the password, there's another way from the sewers that leads to the other side of that door.

Thats the door I mean. The knock three times door. I have just stumbled upon it and I wonder if I should leave it until a quest directs me to it.

Wildfire

If that door is where I think it is, you will come accross it later in the game as part of the main plot if you follow the good path.
