View Full Version : What Is The Most Amazing Thing you Ever Accomplished In a Computergame?

Capstone just inspired my curiosity. With his Top Gun achievement in another thread about bugs. :) I can't think of anything amazing I have done right now, But perhaps you guys and gals out there have some awesome experience you would like to share. Commodore, Amiga games, playstation, PC, gameboy, whatever.

So here is your chance to brag ;)

Capstone he has just foreseen that a lot of people will tell stories where they made "illegal" changes to the game and did something wonderfull. In doing so he thinks my thread is stupid  :p

umm.. lemme think. waaay back when tape drivers were the standard accessories to personal computers, there was this game on c64

<brag> river raid (does anyone know what i'm talking about ? kind of a shoot'em up) I finished it yeah. No cheats, for there were no cheats :) Beat THAT !! lol it had like 100 painstaking levels, and you couldn't save the game!! Oh, those were the days (of course not :p ) </brag>

Nobleman
Wed, 26th Sep '01, 2:30am
you made it through River Raid!!! *I shall have the counsil to knight you* :)

I had it on tape recorder. Took ages to load. But it was awesome. I couldn't beat the later levels when all the junk ballons, guns, tanks, planes etc covered the river.

So in dispair of having my favorite game thrown aside I converted it to a slalom game where I weren't allowed to shoot. Only avoid stuff.

What is the last level. I have waited 15 years to hear that. Oh man :D

lol i played it as a slalom most of the time too only shooting when necessary. It's nigh impossible at the later levels otherwise.

I can't really remember what happened. (hell i'm not quite sure i actually finished it now that i think of it.. seems to be an incredibly daunting task. still, i distinctly remember being over level 80 for i was desperately trying to reach 90 or so - i was 8 years old :) ). It either went back to level 1 or abruptly ended saying game over after finishing one level. If memory serves, the latter is the case. I suppose it wasn't a game designed to be finished :)

was a true classic nevertheless.

Hmm well this is a recent feat of mine. On the N-64, Super Smashbrothers I beat single-player with Kirby, settings of very hard, three lives, no continue. Did not loose a single life, not even to the fighting polygon team (30 enemies total) at any given time outnumbered 3 to 1. I went ballistic. Kirby is the man. PS I almost did it with Captain Falcon, still working on that one ;)

Finished off Sagat (? not sure about the spelling), on the arcade version of Street Fighter with 98 seconds to spare.

Also completed Arcanoid with more lives left than I could count.

A good Uni education went down the pan in that arcade!

Oh yeah, on the StarWars arcade game (original) we used to take it in turns between a friend and myself and spend the whole day on it for 20p. Racking up 14mill pts on that bastard took a while!

I didn't know you could beat river raid. I mean there must have been a last screen but I couldn't ever get through it. I had it for the Atari almost 20 years ago. After about 70 screnns I usually run out of fuel. The river became SO small and there was tons of stuff in it. And no fuel tanks in sight. I don't know how anyone could get to the bridge and I'm not sure if there was anything after that screen. ActiVision made the best games for the Atari.

This is more a feat of herculean patience than skill; I finished Wing Commander on a really old Amiga where at times (ie you got mobbed by about 10 kilrathi in an asteroid belt) it slowed down to ridiculous levels. Someone I work with gave me a copy of Ceasar's Palace to install on my PC.
I discovered that all the graphics used with this game could be edited with the standard Window's Paint program, so I spent a busy two weeks changing virtually all the graphics in the game, including the title screens. I also had inserted my name into several prominent places. It was actually pretty cool looking. I then stayed late one day and installed the game with the new graphics on everyone's PC. There are still copies of it floating around (this happened about 4 years ago). And I got paid to do it! Plus all the glamour, the chicks, etc, that go with being a "famous" video game designer!

Finished the original Super Mario Bros. on the NES with about 84 lives left, not using any of the area portals. Then I finished the original Zelda without dying in 3 hours, all 9 dungeons. Once you finished that one, there was a code that you entered to get a new game with new dungeons and stuff, I finished that one in 3 hours as well and only died once. Then again, I was only in the seventh grade, like I had anything else to do.

heh.
Well I have some thingys I have done.
Bad thing first:
Some years ago I played LBA2 (Little Big Adventure2). When I came to the third planet, underground lotta stuff with lava and such, I was flying with my superjet protopack. It was so beautiful, me flying around some inches over the lavasea, only the sound of my jetpack and and some lavadragons in the air. After a while I got tired of the view and decided to go back to land. (Actually I got tired pushing the forward button down, man, my finger...!) So anyway, I landed on a cliff. I put my jetpack in my pocket (lol) and took some steps forward. Uh, when he didn't move I saw that I've landed on a very stupid place. I couldn't make it to the path, neither could I take my jetpack and fly away again. Stupid bug, I thought and tried to jump off the cliff to the path. Hell no, that wouldn't work I only glide closer to the lava. So, here I was, standing on the edge of a cliff about one mm to the lava, nowhere to go. Of course I saved, in a new name, thought that I would come off that cliff. But no...I didn't. I don't know how long I sat there and tried. Finally, after trying to blow the cliff off with my lasergun, I came up with the stupid idea to jump out in the lava and in the jump, change to jetpack mode and fly glide away. I can see how you guys sit there and laugh you asses off. Grmbl, I tried and I failed. Many times. Then I thought of a superduper smart idea!
Whoohoo.
I was going to use the autosave!
(HEY! Remember that I was about 9 years old!)
So, when I was going to use the autosave...
Man, CHOCK!
The stupid puter had autosaved right when I jumped into the lavasea!
Of course I thought that I should use the normal saves but when I was about to load em.
BAM!
ALL of them were saved at the same time!
I had saves from other planest and other places, but they were GONE!
I went really mad.
I restarted my puter by pushing the nice little button on the front and went up to my room. You don't wanna know what happenend there!
I can say that I have a mark in the wall after that I threw a thing...
Let's not dicuss what.
When I came down I uninstalled LBA2 and I didn't play it until half a year ago when I finished it!
:BRAG:

Now to another brag.
As you might know I am quite proud over my dad when he finished Diablo2 with Exp. for the fifth time. :D He has played all chars except Amazon and Necro. When he finished the game with all those chars, he fifnished it in all difficultlevels, Normal, Nightmare and Hell.
:BRAG:

Then I can also brag about that I have finished the old game Chips. You know that old game you got with Win95, I think, when you are a little boy running through over hundreds of levels searching for puterchips. Lots of enemies, buttons and key to push around.
/Me can still feel her fingers jerk when looking at the game
Man, my fingers learned a lesson. You cant believe what that games does to your mind.
Well, that was three of the millions of brag I can tell.
;)

EDIT: Uh..what was it..yeah I have finished Myst:Exile! it was something more, I know it was...Yeah! Now I know!
I beat my 17 year old cousin, who study computerprogramming and such and is the worlds smartest nerd, in Quake!
I beat him over and over and over!
lol, it was very funny. And he thinks that he rules, pwff! ;) :p

GTA3 on the PS2.
Driving around in squad car with several cop cars after me and a chopper. Evaded them all. Found the dodge viper. Pulled out, had four squad cars after me. Pulled incredibly fast speed down hill. Hit a ramp. Went over a portable diner. Didn't quite make it so I clipped it with my back tire. Pulled corkscrew, whilst still several feet in the air. Flew through several cars, went rolling down a hill. Didn't stop rolling when I hit a road block, hit 2 squad cars, and by this time i was on fire, hit another squad car, and landing in another road block blew up, taking out a bus, the whole road block, and several policemen and their cars that had just pulled up to try and take me out.
Camera panned up to show armagedon in the streets, cars on fire, plenty of dead bodies, and lots of dead police men. And outa all that I started again from the hospital. LOL!!!

Hmm that is a dificult question and it is late :coffee:
I managed to crash an n64 wrestling game 5 times in a row everytime i pressed the button 'a' and held it (this was the most common thing to do). On the same game i won with my eyes shut in 2mins. On unreal tournament i managed to snipe a moving target at the other end of the map without using the sight. On bg1 i also managed to make quayle (sp?) do a moonwalk with a staff, i'm still not sure quite how i managed to do that.
On gta2 i managed to get through a mine/oil field i had laid down with 6 cop cars in pursuit while i was driving the fastet car in the game (the stinger ). I handbraked through all the mines/oil and i took out the whole police squad, however a tank then ran me over :flaming:

AMaster: The germans very nearly DID win the battle of the bulge. They had total suprise, and a blizzard had completely grounded allied air forces. In fact, had Patton not pulled off his outright amazing northern push to bastone, the germans could have cut the allied forces in two, completely shattering our offence. Granted, in the long run, considering they were hopeless outnumbered and outgunned at that point, it wouldn't of accomplished much, other than making an interesting footnote in a history book.

I'm going to revive this thread because there have been some new games out, and new people on the boards.

In Super Street Fighter, the time challenge, I managed a time of 6.972 seconds for Ken vs Dhalsim. That's pretty darn close to their staff record of 6.874 seconds. I think I have the right idea, but doing the same thing twice always lead to times which differ by split seconds.

Also in Final Fantasy 8, killing that Omega weapon or something (the one in the final dungeon), I beat him without using any items that grant invincibility, despite his Maelstorm spell which reduces everybody to 1 hit point.

Completing Ultima Underworld :D
This is the game that taught me English, really. Not to mention it was the first RPG I ever played (the beginning of a love story). It took me a couple of years to go through the whole thing, since I kept missing clues about what to do due to my nonexistent (at the time) knowledge of the language. The feeling of accomplishment I got at the end was unparalleled.

I got a score of >100000 in DX-Ball once, when I was playing a "quick game" just before going to sleep. I have no idea how I managed to do this - the closest score I ever got before or after that was less than half.

I tend not to remember stuff unless reminded of them by someone else.
Also in Final Fantasy 8, killing that Omega weapon or something (the one in the final dungeon), I beat him without using any items that grant invincibility, despite his Maelstorm spell which reduces everybody to 1 hit point. Done it, though most likely a lot easier for me than it was for you. I discovered an odd bug in the PC version where if you have the Chocobo World minigame open at the same time as the game, getting items from the minigame to the main game won't reset the number of items you have in the minigame. With a lot of Alt-Tabbing to 'refresh' the minigame's numbers, you get a buttload of items, including lots of stat-boosters. Eventually getting 255 in all stats makes everything a hell of a lot easier. ;)

I'm unusually lucky at finding such exploits.

World of Warcraft, level 29 Gnome frost mage/engineer in Warsong Gulch. Killed 7 horde who were after Alliance flag carrier by holding them in place with a nova then blizzarding them to death and finishing off the last two with arcane explosions and fire blast.

Flag carrier was a paladin with a priest supporting.

We went ahead to cap two more flags with an offense of the same group (priest [healer/remove-ailmenter], paladin [carrier] and myself-frost mage [inhibiting/slowing enemy]) that allowed our team to field 7 defenders.

Also I once had a huge city on SimCity 3000 when I was twelve or so, but then I got the option to build a theme park, so I took out all the loans and blew everything.

Typing in my own computer game from a computer magazine. Back in those days, the free software didn't come on a cover disc, it came in the form of a few pages of code that, if you typed it in correctly, resulted in a playable game. The biggest achievement was the typing-in of a centipede style shoot 'em game which took about two hours to type (and then another two hours to debug and find all the typos before it would work properly).

Well...its not the most AMAZING thing, but its certainly recent...

I scored 160,000 points in a single drift NFS Carbon last night on one the Canyon drift tracks...its a personal record!!!

And then...last year, we had organised a money match tournament on our campus for Tekken 5...and I beat everyone!! :) Made about 100 bucks that day! :D

189 lines in Tetris was a walk in the park for me, my highest is 479 :)

I finished Ghost n' Gobblins losing just 2 lives, but it took me a lot to finally finish the game, which no matter what it says at the end of a game, I couldn't continue, so after very long time and at about 80% of the game, if you lose, you had to start all over again... such a pain. So I felt very realized when I beat the darng game.

Finished 1942 without losing a life, man those where times...

Found a trick in Operation Wolf that made the second round easier.

Finished Ninja Kid II without continuing and before someone else even continuing.

Beat Double Dragon I, II and III without continuing and before someone else even continuing.

Back in those times, I spent about 5 hours in those recreative saloons :p

I'm sorry but I'm pretty sure it's impossible to score an 18 on that game. On some of the holes it's just impossible to score a hole in one. I scored a 34 and for that I played superbly!

Sydax
Mon, 15th Jan '07, 11:58am
Agree with Barmy, there are 2 or 3 particular holes that I tried very hard and couldn't get in one. The fact that you can't hit the ball too hard in some holes (the one with ups and down greens) because whenever you want to hit hard and the pointer is out of the green box, it won't hit hard, just the strenght you can get with the pointer inside the green box.

It’s definitely possible, because I’ve done it. There are, however, a few holes where you have to get the speed and/or angle just right; miss it by just a bit and you won’t even come close to a hole-in-one. IIRC, the most sensitive one (I don’t recall the #) was the one with 3 long horizontal “alleyways” – hit it up a bit and to the left, bounce it back to the right , and bounce it back again to the left. The “up and down” ones also fall into this category.

The really hard part is getting all 18 holes-in-one in the same game.

Like I said, I was bored one weekend.

I just realized I gave the wrong link. The game I played before was a more "full-screen" version of the same game. I've changed the link above; I think the previous game wasn't allowing you to get enough speed on certain holes.

I took 7v1 on Random Map on AOK(no conquerors) and won....also took on 3 of the top 4 players on Herofest(custom map...really popular for AOK) with a buddy of mine and rolled them.

Got a 5 hs shot on Counter-Strike: Source last week with an AWP in a 5v5 match, and later that same game got a 6 man nade(killed a teammate, and their whole team). Quite a good night for me.

I took 7v1 on Random Map on AOK(no conquerors) and wonWhat difficulty was it? I think I've done it a few times on hardest (conquerors mostly), and since it sometimes feels too easy, I've downloaded a few custom AI's that makes the computer play much more like people do when you play online. It rocks.

it wasn't against the computer...it was against "intermediate" people online. Intermediates can generally do a 2v1 on hardest against the computer....as you could guess from the feat, I was considered expert..

I beat the game Star Tropics for the original NES in 6 days. I also went to school on 5 of those days.

My dad beat the game of Myst in 6 hours his first time through. He bought the second Myst (Riven?) the day it hit the store shelves and hasn't even made it halfway. :)

This being on the SP site everyone (or nearly everyone) knows who Yxonemei(sp?) is in the original IWD right? Well, I was playing the game in HOF mode with a Mage/Thief and a Cleric/Ranger. I had my Cleric/Ranger draw all the melee fighters to her at the door and distract them... I then had the Mage/Thief cast that teleport spell targeted directly behind Yxonemei. He cast Sunfire twice, killing her and all the casters. He then proceeded to cast spells at the backs of the melee fighters attacking my Cleric/Ranger....

It may not seem like a big deal but I've always thought that was one of the hardest battles in the game and was truly amazed how easy it was that time. Not to mention it was awesome to see the her fry like that.

While trying to beat Motaro in Mortal Kombat 3, the game eventually let me play some Space Invaders. If I recall correctly, that's an easter egg you get after fighting 250 matches in a row. So I must've been trying to beat Motaro for the better part of 200 matches without success.

I found a strategy with which I could defeat Motaro fairly consistently not long after that, though.

Wait, this was about bragging? Well... I suppose defeating Shao Kahn was a breeze after Motaro.

Call of Duty: United Offensive, Base Attack multiplayer mode. Last bunker left, two minutes left of gameplay and it takes a minute for the bomb to blow and fifteen seconds to activate it, and friendly fire is on. I pick up a flamethrower, rush down their bunker after throwing down a smoke grenade, defended by four Americans, never releasing the trigger. I didn't kill a single one of them, they did it themself with their Thompsons and BARs in panic. I arm the bomb, throw down another smoke grenade, panic all five who enters who proceed to die from the fire and their own gunfire, airstrike the location, and arm a satchel. Instant win.

Also, another CoD: UO.Operation Barbarossa map by After-Hourz.com or something like that, enhanced with realistic mod and more realistic vechiles and Friendly Fire turned on.

I went there when the server was still around as Rutkowski the Duck. As I like having vechiles in the game, but I do not like to go in any of them except the troop transports and the jeeps, I went to a burned-out village(one of four, the map is huge) on the map, German side. I see a troop transport coming, two Panzers with a gunner to support, and a full Half-Track(driver, driver's aid, gunner, four troopers in the back) with the Panzers in front and behind it.

I throw the primed Smoke Grenade take out the Satchel and blow the last Panzer in the convoy, two dead.(I also had a Mosin Nagant with a total of ten bullets, a smoke grenade, a Panzerfaust 60, and a TT-33 with only two bullets after a previous firefight that also left me with only 2/3rds of my life to go and no Grenades, not much against a total of thirteen guys.) The other tank and it's gunner turn towards me, but not with the entire tank, leaving the rear open and I take the shot with the Panzerfaust and two more are gone. Now, the gunner of the Half-Track realize that he and his car are trapped, and shoot towards me. Luckily, another German had snuck up to me but the gunner mistook him for me and shot his teammate. Total of five guys gone. I use my Mosin Nagant and take out the gunner, and then manage to take out the driver too, so they cannot flee when the Panzer wreckages have despawned. Seven guys gone. The rest of the Half-Track unload and open fire at me. After a few seconds, five of the guys are dead and my Mosin Nagant is empty. The last two rush towards me with a MP-44 and a MP-40 and fire to keep my head down. I knew that if they came close, I was finished, so I stood up and aimed down the sight with my pistol. When my clip was out, so were the enemy. Two headshots.

Also, the mode was Base Assault and we only had Bunker 3 left, undefended. If they had taken the bunker, they would've won and the game would've been over.

After this, I gained quite the reputation on the server and was voted Player of the Month and Soviet Player of the Year, but most of that reputation dissapeared when the server went down, but I still meet people who told me they had either seen my FRAPS or heard of the event.

Probably my proudest multiplayer moment, close to a PvP in WoW with me against three hordies, all around my own level, where I came out living but they didn't.

Hmm...solo'd Baldurs Gate 2 with all the difficulty enhancing mods I could get my hands on, INSANE difficulty with a Solo Conjurer...which I dual-classed to Cleric at lvl 34 ... then played successfully with AND completed the Ascension final battle to win the game.

Also...won basically every single tournament I've participated in for Tekken 5 in India...won a fair bit of money too! :)

Hmm...what else? I was playing Counterstrike (Condition Zero) in a clan match a long time ago...after a long losing streak, our team was broke and I was the only surviving member and all I had was the standard Glock pistol you spawn with. I took out 4 M4A1 toting CTs (map was de_dust2_cz) and won the round...

-Once, long...ish ago, on a 486 PC, I completed a full game of Angband. Lvl 93 Half-Orc Thief that killed Morgoth (no offence ;) ) on Level 50. That had taken about six months of on-again, off-again play whilst having fun with other things (Privateer, MoO, Duke3D, Quake).

-I also played Eastern Front: 1941 completely through a couple of times...on an Atari 8-bit...with a tape-drive with something like a 40min load time. (quit yer whining, you darn young console whippersnappers with your 'long load times' in GTA and the like! :P ) I had to leave the computer on with this for about three days since I had to sleep, go to school, etc.

-I completed Zork III (only one I was able to get hold of, back in tha day before Infocom released the trilogy) without aid of cheats or even advice from friends.

-I spent most of a year (after finishing it) of playing around with Deus Ex, trying to push the limits of Ion Storm's 'open-ended non-linearity'. Accidentally, I ended up beating one of the big villians without any direct combat. :)

As you go through the SeaLab, there's a large room with some monsters you have to get past - I had been trying to use LAM booby traps to ambush most of them - so they didn't swarm me all at once - and never noticed that one or two were left behind...
Once you've reached the final goal and are on your way back, Walton Simons (aka 'the Right-Hand-Man Foozle') will spawn in that room to ambush you. Well, as I made my way up the passage and got my implants ready for a fight, I heard a muffled 'boom'... and wondered when Wally was gonna show up. :)

Also, I discovered using swords in that game is nothing like light-saber combat in the Jedi Knight titles - one time I grinned and drew the Dragon's Tooth against him, only to discover that I had only a Dragon's Tooth. :mommy:
Walton and I closed, and we attacked, and both died simultaneously. :hahaerr:

Dang, Deus Ex was fun...

I made over $10K of real money by selling premium items I've farmed in Diablo and Ragnarok. :D Gee, I wished I did.

My accomplishments in PC games aren't exactly that illustrious, just minor achievements like...

1. Over at a friends house, finishing over 130 levels in Lode Runner using keyboard on an Apple computer... and then have to let go because it's time to go home.

2. Completing all but 1 puzzle (aptly called Forget-Me-Not) of a PC game called Klotzky during the Windows 98 era. Took me more than 4 hours to finished the biggest puzzle and best of all, there were witnesses.

3. Personal record of Minesweeper: 6 seconds for Easy and 41 seconds for Intermediate.
