What are some of your spell tactics, those that are sure to turn the tide? I can't cast 6th level yet and I'm having a heck of a time getting through some of the harder "mage" battles that I fall apon.

Also, in what sequence? I've casted Breach before but it doesn't seem to help as Minsc, Valygar and even Korgan still say "Weapon ineffective". Now I know the damn mages have something cast on them to protect them, so what spell will get rid of this? I keep flipping through my manual and there are just so many "new" spells that remove magic, but I can't figure out what spells the enemy mages have cast on them thus, I don't know what to cast in return to remove them.

Since you have level 6 casting ability, use Pierce Magic BEFORE casting breach. IIRC, pierce magic has a casting time of 6 and breach a c.t of 5, so, if you have 2 casters (which is always a good idea), you can drop the mage's defenses on the same round.
Another very useful spell is insect plague. It won't dispel anything, but it gives a 100% casting failure to the victim. Well, Jaheira is good for something after all :)

Well, I am at work right now and dont have a spell list in front of me, but the spell I have found to be most effective is Pierce Magic, maybe it is called just Pierce, I am not sure on what level it is, but I dont think it is too high, either 5th or 6th level maybe. Load up with as many of those as possibe, another awesome tactic I love to use to drop stoneskins and mirror images is simply magic missle, one spell with drop 5 hits off of a stoneskin or mirror image, so with 2 maybe 3 castings of it and a few fighters pounding away you get alot of dead mages. I read on this board about using web, then fireball to take out loads of baddies at a time, but that just sounds like no fun...

to get rid off annoying protections and the like, cast breach, remove magic and another good one is kelben's warding whip but that is level 8 so yeah, and i cant remember what pierce magic is, but it is really useful, get it asap cause it also lowers magic resistance.

The reason you can't hit the charactors after you cast breach is because they probably have protection from magical weapons cast on themselves. Thesespell means that weapons with enchantments will be inneffective against them.
Normal weapons without enchantments will hit them though. I'm not sure if pierce magic will take that spell down. Sorry if that doesn't help. Also they could be protected by mantle.
However this spell does have a very short duration.

Pierce Magic and Pierce Shield remove magical protections; not combat protections. They remove things like spell turning, spell deflection, etc. These spells also lower MR, if applicable. Pierce Magic lowers MR 1%/level of caster; Pierce Shield lower MR 10% + 1%/level.

If the person you are trying to hit is protected by the Protection from Magic Weapons spell, then Breach will dispel it. What has probably happened is the character has cast Protection from Magic Weapons and then followed that up with a Spell Immunity/Abjuration spell. The spell immunity would prevent breach from dispelling the protection spell.

people person-i eat people, next time you resurrect a 4 year old topic, you'll get the idiot plaque. There must have been a few dozen topics on the same subject posted since this one, and yet you went and resurrected probably the first one. Learn to look at the date of the original post before you reply.
