That depends.

If your dual class is cleric, you won't have a single * in longswords.

The answer is no. Your proficiencies are merged. If you have proficiencies in common between the two classes, the larger of the two will take effect.

exactly, i got the same trouble when i dulaed kensai with +++ at katanas to tief and then rised up another +. When i regained the kensai i got only 3, not4
