View Full Version : When did you read your first novel?
Azirath Mon, 10th Sep '01, 1:10pm The question is, When did you read your first novel? It can be any decent or otherwise chapter book. Comic books, etc. do not count.
The first book I read was the late Isaac Asimov's Foundation book 1 at age 7, and then I bought the whole series and tons of his other books, and now the great Isaac Aasimov is my fav sci-fi writer.
Headbanger Mon, 10th Sep '01, 1:42pm Hehe I don't even know him... I read a lot of dutch novels when I was 9 years old.... now I read some less for I also have less time, however I do like reading.
Tolkien and Peretti are my favorit writers.
BogiTheWaverer Mon, 10th Sep '01, 2:03pm IIRC i was 7 or 8 when i began to dive into the wild-west by reading Karl May books.
Mathetais Mon, 10th Sep '01, 2:30pm I remember reading La Morte de Aruthur when I was 12. By then I had read all of Terry Brook's Shannara books (that had been printed), some Piers Anthony, the Chronicles of Narnia & the Hobbitt.
So, I probably really began reading around age 8 or such . . . maybe earlier.
Sniper Mon, 10th Sep '01, 2:33pm When i think about it, the first proper novel i've ever read would be when i was about 10 and that was the amazing 'The Hobbit'.
Lazy Bonzo Mon, 10th Sep '01, 8:54pm When i was 6 i read the hobbit and when i was 7 i read the lord of the rings.
Sir Belisarius Mon, 10th Sep '01, 9:07pm The first novel I ever read was "The Great Brain" by John D. Fitzgerald & Mercer Mayer.
It was a whole series of books I read in 3rd grade...so I was 6-7 at the time.
They were pretty good...Fun stuff for kids starting out.
Voltric Thu, 13th Sep '01, 9:26pm You know I can't really remember. I read 2001 when I was 7 or so. I think that was the first novel I read. I know I read Battle Field Earth when I was 10. Great book bad movie. I read so many sci-fi books when I was young they all kind of blur together.
The Illustrious Hunter Fri, 14th Sep '01, 12:21am 'All Quiet on the Western Fron' - the WW1 book looking through a germans solder's eyes. Great book, go read now.
Shadow_Goddess Fri, 14th Sep '01, 12:48am Now lemme see... Think the the first novel i read was... um... (I don't have the best memory) Oh yeah! The first novel I read was a book from the Sabrina the Teenage Witch series.
Lord Moeken Fri, 14th Sep '01, 1:03am In grade 2 I read 'Watership Down' the story about the rabbits. Can't remember the author though?
Sir Bel - I loved the great brain books. I have all seven of them as well. The first one I read was book 3 "Me and My Little Brain" I just lent them all to my nephew who is 11 and he loved them too. :)
Kitiara Fri, 14th Sep '01, 3:20pm I didnt start out a fantasy reader...lol
At the age of 6 i was immersed in an author named Beverly Cleary. I also enjoyed Nancy Drew. No laughin at me now :p
Blackthorne TA Fri, 14th Sep '01, 5:28pm Why would we laugh? I read the Hardy Boys! :)
Tiamat Fri, 14th Sep '01, 6:20pm *blanches* I've got nothing against Beverly Cleary (Nancy drew is machine-made). I used to read those too. Now the thought of touching almost anything non-fantasy is repellent to me.... ;) My first book must have been Mathilda at age 5.
Nobleman Fri, 14th Sep '01, 6:31pm I actually never read any novels but Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. lemme see. I was 23 then. not a bad age, huh?
