Sir Dargorn Mon, 14th Apr '03, 2:13pm Riiiiiiiiight.
Faragon Mon, 14th Apr '03, 3:13pm We have a saying back here: "Better to keep quiet and let people think you're and idiot, than to speak up and confirm it for them."
Think about it...
Elvenblade Mon, 14th Apr '03, 3:47pm Don't hate your best friends man :hippy:
Frostmage Mon, 14th Apr '03, 4:24pm How about explaining what's wrong with books?
Khelben Mon, 14th Apr '03, 4:40pm LoL!
Dude, books are good, especially grammar ones, those books teach you not to say "books sucks".
Anyway what other comment about books can be expected from a man who say "books sucks".
Seriously read some books man.
Falstaff Mon, 14th Apr '03, 8:18pm Boo has been spending waaaaaaaay too much time with Minsc!!
My ears hurt just reading that!
Bibliophiles Unite!!
Oaz Mon, 14th Apr '03, 8:40pm I can tell from the title of this thread, that you not only have a problem with reading, but one also with writing. ;) :p
Seriously, now, what's wrong with books?
Tonic Mon, 14th Apr '03, 11:43pm Your comment just made me soo frustrated..this is booktalk. Why would you come on a book message board and say they suck. Whoa man got some problems there.
Ofelix Tue, 15th Apr '03, 12:13am OH HEAVEN NO!
if your in this forum then you must (obviously) like D&D based-game right? because those game are based in D&D rule set (duh!) and guess what? THEY ARE BOOK!
Icingdeath45 Tue, 15th Apr '03, 1:45am How can you say books suck? They are awesome.
Jesper898 Tue, 15th Apr '03, 1:54am Reading books can help people improve their grammar :nono:
Boo the great Tue, 15th Apr '03, 9:03am Sometimes I read a book, but that is not very often.
But I must admit that some books are good, but not all the books. :flaming: :book: :bang:
Shura Wed, 16th Apr '03, 6:44am Boo...you are a ... nevermind.
Read a bit and maybe you'll improve on your grammar, if not your spelling and sentence construction.
Boo the great Wed, 16th Apr '03, 9:44am Ok ok, but this is (for me) a place where I can learn better english.
So I must admit my english is a bit bad.
Sorry. :book:
Eze Wed, 16th Apr '03, 4:27pm Ofcourse it's bad. BTW, books are knowledge. Unless they're stupid romance novels. Ditch those. Books rock and any person with brains(excluding teenage boys, who don't even have brains) will tell you so. DUUUUUUH.
*stalks off, dragging Neo with her*
Aikanaro Thu, 17th Apr '03, 9:50am Is there any real reason why you think that books suck?
Boo the great Thu, 17th Apr '03, 12:24pm Not any book is a really GOOD book, so often I think of a book it suck!
Apeman Thu, 17th Apr '03, 2:55pm Maybe you should read a real book instead of comic books you obviously read now.
Sorry couldn't resist, it's just you can't say that all books suck.
LKD Thu, 17th Apr '03, 8:55pm I teach High school, and the bottom line is this -- those who don't like to read tend to do poorly in ALL subjects, have poor social skills, and they tend to end up in the lowest paying jobs. There are exceptions, but they are few and far between. There's about a billion books out there, Boo, if you try you'll find a type that you like.
Now, speaking of Boo, is there no one from the Netherlands who can help this guy? He's obviously confused, is trying out a new language (which is more than a lot of native English speakers can say), and, well, he needs help that only someone who speaks his language can give him. I'd do it myself, but to my shame, I don't even know what language they speak in the Netherlands, let alone being able to speak it!
I remember when I was a newbie here (in fact, some would say that I still am one) and I asked a lot of stupid questions. I still do, as I'm not anywhere near the hacking genius some of you are. I guess my sympathy button has been pushed.
Urgazhi Fri, 18th Apr '03, 10:28am books are windows into the realms of fantasy and fun. they are ways to get away from the **** of life and into a story of action and other... stuff. without books, the world would be a pretty boring life. doesnt everyone agree?
Volsung Sat, 19th Apr '03, 8:41pm I agree, reading books is very good for all the reasons you mentioned.
Eze, you said:
Books rock and any person with brains(excluding teenage boys, who don't even have brains) will tell you so. What makes you think that teenage boys do not have brains. I am a teenage boy and I assure you I have brains (and I have read MANY books).
Rathanel Sun, 20th Apr '03, 11:26pm Alexander the Great (quote): "What makes you think that teenage boys do not have brains. I am a teenage boy and I assure you I have brains (and I have read MANY books)."
I, too, am a teenage boy who loves to read. I also consider myself to be quite intelligent, but I must alter your statement somewhat.
All teenage boys have brains, but only rarely are they located inside their heads.
Boo the great Tue, 22nd Apr '03, 11:43am Why should I read a book???
When you can read a summary on the internet.
chevalier Tue, 22nd Apr '03, 12:34pm Heh, what do you really benefit from reading a summary? If reading a whole book is a waste of time, reading some better or worse contraction is not even worth considering - unless it's for school of course :D - but it's no mystery that those books do suck in general. Heh, I remember getting A's when examined on my knowledge of books I've never opened ;) One always has more interesting things to read.
I'm not going to be telling you what's good for you - although I personally agree with Faragon, Khelben, Shura and Depaara - not everyone has to be an intellectual or a white-collar. There are so many important roles in the society, you know.
Faragon Tue, 22nd Apr '03, 1:04pm Hell yeah, I still need someone to decalciphy my waterboiler ;)
Not everybody likes to read, and that's just fine. Not everyone has the same interests. (Thank god.) But to come into a forum that is about that very thing and state that books suck, is like going to a tankdivision and tell the entire squad there that guns are bad. I mean, that's just begging for a kick in the groin area.
Which is a bad idea, in general
Iago Tue, 22nd Apr '03, 1:09pm My teachers always adviced me to stop reading, because it consumed too much time and energy and made my grades drown. :D
But hey, working with one's hands to earn money, that's decent and honest work. A trade in hand finds gold in every land.
Eze Tue, 22nd Apr '03, 1:54pm Alexander the Great and Rathanel: Maybe, maybe. But I'll still stick to the teenage-boys-have-no-brains version thankyouverymuch.
Boo the great Tue, 22nd Apr '03, 2:09pm But the thing is when you read a summary and you like it, you can go and read the whole book.
That's the best thing of summary's.
And Eze, please stay away!
Because most boys DO have brains! :holy:
Master of Nuhn Tue, 22nd Apr '03, 4:36pm Boo, just like videomovies, summaries are often worse then the book and give a bad impression.
I admit that I don't like reading, but I would be a crazy fool when I say that books suck. (No offens ment, Dutchy)
Do you just don't like reading or reading books? If you don't like reading books, then why would you bother reading summeries before you read the books? And if you don't like reading at all, then why would you read the summeries?
I don't visit this forum regularly, since I don't read that much. I was just curious how people would react to a thread called 'Books Suck(s)' in Booktalk.
Edit:
Because most boys DO have brains! Allthough there might, just MIGHT be some nice examples of whom people think they have not.

Eze Tue, 22nd Apr '03, 9:20pm *coughMinsc'srodentcough*
And Boo, WHY should I stay away?
In your nice dreams.
Ha.
Need to see Equilibrium... Need to see... Will kill, if can't see it...
chevalier Tue, 22nd Apr '03, 10:31pm Agreed. Teenage boys rarely have brains. I was an exception. The time everyone was playing football and getting deflorated I was reading, reading and reading. I like myself now. :D
Sephiroth Tue, 22nd Apr '03, 10:39pm Books are a great gift.Without them we would be stuck in the everyday live and would kill us,because we wouldn't have any dreams(How philosopic :D ).
Books are also much better than films, because you can read how the persons feel, and I think this is something very important !
And Eze,boys are much smarter than girls :D  :D
Nick The Friendly Goth Tue, 22nd Apr '03, 11:06pm "Excluding teenage boys, who don't even have brains"
That's a rash generalization...I’m a teenage boy and I read plenty of books and by no means do I not have any "brains". And besides why post it? You must know that these forums include many teenage boys.
LKD Tue, 22nd Apr '03, 11:21pm Exiled . . . Eze has a serious hate on for boys at the moment, similar to the one that many boys have regarding girls ("eww, cooties!") I think it's great that she feels she can vent her frustrations here on SP -- it's certainly safer for the boys at her school -- if she couldn't blow off steam here, she might kill a classmate!
That's why books are good, too -- you can vicariously live out your fantasies about killing annoying people, and you don't actually kill those annoying people, which cuts down the amount of time you spend in jail!
Greenlion420 Tue, 22nd Apr '03, 11:30pm I agree with Sephirot, books give you the opportunity to create the characters, emotions, environments, ect.. in your mind. your imagination along with a great book (they are out there) can take you places and show you things that no movie or summary could hope to do justice to. try it. :)
however Sephirot, i cannot agree that boys are smarter, if we were, we would have found a way to resist girls. i know i can't. ;)
Sephiroth Tue, 22nd Apr '03, 11:42pm I cannot agree that boys are smarter, if we were, we would have found a way to resist girls. i know i can't. If I'm well informed they can't resist us either. And I dont't think intelligence has something to do with your resisting grade against girls :D
Eze Wed, 23rd Apr '03, 2:36pm Yes, we can. We control our instincts more, save for the few pathetic. And we can go for years without acting like animals, unlike boys, who are engaged in mating rituals the moment adults are gone. Believe me.
Viking Wed, 23rd Apr '03, 2:49pm
I think this topic has gone from one inane generalisation to another here.
Books of course do not suck. Boys are not stupid just because they're tenagers. Their behaviour might be, but that does not make them stupid for 8 years of their lives. Eze, don't worry, we calm down a lot....
Boo - only one thing for you: Stop watching telly and read books. Start with a few great books just to get into the swing of things, then expand.
Volsung Wed, 23rd Apr '03, 5:05pm Cheavalier:
I was an exception. The time everyone was playing football and getting deflorated I was reading, reading and reading. That's exactly how i'm now. I'm all the time in my home reading. Can't put down those books, they're irresistible.
Eze:
What's wrong with teenager boys? Someone must have done something to you, right? But that's not an excuse to put the blame on everyone who is a teenager.
Death Rabbit Wed, 23rd Apr '03, 5:08pm I'm frankly amazed this topic has gotten so many hits. Given, half of the posts here are in response to Eze's "teenage boys are dumb" comment rather than Boo's original post, but still.
Iago Wed, 23rd Apr '03, 5:30pm And we can go for years without acting like animals, unlike boys, who are engaged in mating rituals the moment adults are gone The girls I went too school with, behaved among themselves like hyenas. They were always intrigueing against eachother. Like a soap opera. Which became quite annoying after a while.
Sephiroth Wed, 23rd Apr '03, 6:56pm We have a few girls at class, who are talking as good as the whole break about clothes and boys :D
Eze Wed, 23rd Apr '03, 7:43pm Stupid blonde girls. Wicked, wretched, preppie demons of our kind. Those should be executed.
*brandishes axe*
chevalier Wed, 23rd Apr '03, 8:21pm Yes, we can. We control our instincts more, save for the few pathetic. And we can go for years without acting like animals, unlike boys, who are engaged in mating rituals the moment adults are gone. Believe me. I beg to differ. It's exactly as though you were talking about girls. And I'm serious on this one.
Oaz Wed, 23rd Apr '03, 8:45pm I was an exception. The time everyone was playing football and getting deflorated I was reading, reading and reading. Isn't this just about how every male on SP sees themselves here?
Sir Belisarius Wed, 23rd Apr '03, 8:50pm Do coloring books count too? Just wondering. I love coloring books!!!
Greenlion420 Wed, 23rd Apr '03, 9:06pm yes Sir B. coloring books do count, as long as you color outside the lines
Maná Wed, 23rd Apr '03, 9:13pm Bah, it's useless trying to prove the characteristics of one sex. I know plenty of people (myself included) who are irrational, spontaneous, and completely... [not calm], and there is no majority of girls/guys.
And some of us value our ability to act on instincts. ;)
Taluntain Wed, 23rd Apr '03, 9:45pm Please get back on topic or I'll have to close this thread.
Erebus Thu, 24th Apr '03, 10:36am Well...she is 13, so probably she hasn't been asked out.
Anyway, I personally love books, not only do they help you pass off the time, it also helps in school.
Urgazhi Fri, 25th Apr '03, 5:01am Who would have thought that reading and writing would pay off!? -Homer Simpson
LKD Fri, 25th Apr '03, 5:43pm I would just like to point out the incredible irony inherent in the fact that a group of supposedly uber literate people have generated over 60 responses to a converstion that began with "Books Sucks". I have analyzed my responding behaviour and decided not to reply (after this ;) )to any thread that shows such heinous grammatical flaws.
In other words, if we are literate and love reading (as so many have so eloquently argued) we should be reading or talking amongst ourselves, not responding to dumb people!
Taluntain Fri, 25th Apr '03, 8:47pm Show some respect for those who are no longer with us. :shake:
Iago Sat, 26th Apr '03, 1:37pm I would just like to point out the incredible irony inherent in the fact that a group of supposedly uber literate people have generated over 60 responses to a converstion that began with "Books Sucks". I have analyzed my responding behaviour and decided not to reply (after this )to any thread that shows such heinous grammatical flaws.
That's the pessimistic way to look at it. The optimistic way is, there's nothing which those people can't turn into something. That is not incredible irony, that is incredible creativity!
Alloas From Hawai Sat, 10th May '03, 9:51pm Who is that fool that says books sucks???
I often love to read books!
Shura Wed, 14th May '03, 2:01pm Well, well. What can one expect from Minsc's rodent? Although I would have thought Boo to be infinitely smarter than the one that showed up on SP, though.
And it is really funny the way how all the little boys here respond so defensively to Eze's comment.
Anyway, with Boo gone, I suspect we shall see little bashing of one of my favorite pastimes: reading books.
:D Hope he's having fun working as a convenient store cashier (enough brains?) or as a publice toilet cleaner these days.
