I'm thinking of purchasing the first three books of this six-parter, having heard a few good things about them.

However, I am rather put off by the fact that there is a different writer for each book. Such stories usually suffer, quality wise.

Anyway, I would like to hear any opinions, reviews and (hopefully not) spoilers you folk at SP might have to offer.

Well, I have read all the first three books and personally, I liked them very much. Although I thought that the writer of the third was a little on the weak side, they all seem to fit together quite well.

I would recommend these books for any fan of FR. They provide an interesting new view of the drow, in that they are usually portrayed only as bloodthirsty murderers. With a few notable exceptions, of course.

Anyhow, good books. I suggest you read them, though personally I'd wait 'til they come out in paperback, because I don't think any novel is ever worth 25 frigging dollars. You might be rich, I don't know. We have to thrifty these days after all, what with the prices of the D&D rulebooks these days ;)

The first one just came out in paperback, the other two won't for several more months.

I've read all three by now and I can honestly say that they are very good. The first two fluently follow each other, so does the third but not as good as the early two. In fact I've discovered a big mistake in three, but I won't spoil it here.

In all very good books with very nice characters.

Although on a side note, I'm very frightened to read the book written by Athans, and I hope that he will somehow come through with writing a 'good' book.

I want them! I can't wait for being able to read about Phaerun (yes, Phaerun.... :rolleyes: ) because of some of the commentaru provided to me by some friends. Heh, to teach a goblin slave how to properly fry a sausage... :lol:

I have just finished the paperback version of Dissolution. The verdict: a most enjoyable read indeed.

Ryld Argith and Phauron(sp?) Mizzyrm are dangerously edging out Artemis and Jarlaxle as my favorite duo of ne'er'do wells.

Quite hilarious in some parts and impressively cool in others. A drow warrior with a hulking greatsword in dwarven armor? Ryld is an excellent and grin-worthy potrayal of the 3rd edition fighter: surly, low in charisma but a master of the fighting arts with a dozen tricks up his sleeve.Awesome!

Although I cannot help but draw similarities b/w Jarlaxle and Phauron, both flamboyant magic-using types, the wizard whom the story is more centered upon is an intriguing character as well, and more developed storywise than Ryld.

I found it strange to (minor spoiler):


to throw Quenthel Baenre in with this duo of outcasts, she being a high ranking priestess and all. Valas Hune, the second-last of the pentet formed at the end of book one, was hardly featured at all. We should see more of the kukri-wielding mercenary's exploits in later books. I can't spell the last member's name, though she survived days of abuse at the hands of a demon. Hmmm interesting. A series I shall most definitely follow.

Yeah there's a big mistake in 3rd one that is also mentioned in WoTC boards.In fact there are more than 1 mistakes but the biggest one is Jeggred in Abyss.
WotSQ is fun to read and its effects on drow will be huge.
