It's a bit on the overwrought side, but I've gotta say that Gene Wolfe's series that makes up The Book of the New Sun is some of my favorite sf/fantasy ever. Or, really, favorite stuff of any genre. Any other fans of his here?

I read some of it in my early teens but I cant remember much and I have got the impression that the series is unifinished? What I remember of the series is that I thought it was quite odd and I didnt understant much of it, probably due to my age though.

This book was recently recommended to me (actually, it was recommended in a review of my work, but I take it as a personal recommendation), but not much detail was given. What's the general story line?

Well, is about this guy whose job is to torture people...

Really, I find it very difficult to describe. What I found most interesting was not the plotline (which actually is quite hard to follow) but rather the description of the underlying society, the way it works. Some sort of post-technological world, with a sort of medieval setting and also some fantastic elements. Not your traditional fantasy/scifi book. It is quite gripping, though.
