hola all
i'm wondering about the music from the Neverwinter Nights games but mostly the BG2 music. Is there any programs that can read/extract/etc the various music files (ie .ACM and .BMU)?
i love the music from these games and would like to know of any way to convert these files to a playable format. i wouldn't use them illegally and probably wouldn't even edit them.
any info would be appreciated

Well, the BG2 music could get grabbed by this app:
acm2wav converter (http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG/acm2wav.zip)
Not sure about the NWN music, I've never looked into that, but since people have been pulling models and textures out of it since the game was released, I'm sure it can be done. I might poke around a bit on that one.

NWN uses fixed-bitrate-MP3 files for it's audio tracks. By audio tracks I refer to the "passive music" tracks, "battle music" tracks, and "character theme" tracks.
BMU is just a fixed-bitrate-MP3 file with a 16 (or 32?) byte header added to it.
Use the BMU converter linked above to convert the NWN bmu files to MP3. NWN's bmu files are kept in the \music directory.
mus_bat*.bmu are battle music, mus*.bmu is everything else.
You can even add your own tunes to an NWN module by editing the ambientmusic.2da file. There is a guide @ Bioware.com regarding this.
Personally, my favorite music track is one of the new XP2 battle songs: mus_bat_x2large.bmu. It's great.
Edit: OK, the app linked to by ArtE is not the correct one. What you need is a BMU to MP3 converter.
I am sure you can find one by searching Google.

Um. Turns out, no app neccesary. I just pulled a .BMU out of the music folder and just changed the extension to .mp3, it played fine.
Very cool.

I guess Winamp (or whatever) is smart enough to ignore a header/footer containing extraneous data.
Here is the app, at any rate:

Thanks for the info guys!
i have XP and can't edit the files like i used to. My Winamp doesn't like the files and freaks out.
But thanks alot guys, you've given me another reason to waste many hours of reality on these fine games!

If you change the extension to .mp3 then Windows Media Player should be able to do the trick.
