View Full Version : Why the name?
Rolsuk Fryulee Thu, 7th Nov '02, 8:10pm I think this has been posted before, but I will update it. What is your SP name? Is it a nick name, your character's name or what?
Me, Rolsuk Fryulee is my halfling rouge's name.
8people Thu, 7th Nov '02, 8:14pm Ah! My old posts new incarnation it seems ;)
The reason of my name are best left buried for fear of people thinking I am weirder than they already think I am. :(
maybe later...
Now it's later - because of one of my problems I have got people in my head - there happens to be eight of them - which aren't me. They are my friends and therfor I am 8people - in everything

Lazy Bonzo Thu, 7th Nov '02, 8:33pm Yep this has been done lots before but not that recently so i'll say again.
Lazy Bonzo was my first BG1 character - a fighter with an inteligence of 3 and the laziness of well me :)
Then when i joined SP i used it and use it on most other internet things aswell (email accounts, other boards etc).
Kitrax Thu, 7th Nov '02, 8:40pm I too have answered this question before, but I think that thread was deleted when Tal upgraded to the new version of UBB.
The name Kitrax was my name for my PC the second time I played through SoA. I wanted to name my PC after the black spider figurine, but I couldn't remember what it's name was. So I figured Kitrax was close enough...when I found the fiugurine again, I felt like as idot; but I ended up liking Kitrax better than Kitthix. It has been my name for most everything I do online. :rolling:
Mesmero Thu, 7th Nov '02, 8:45pm 1) I actually wanted the name Taluntain, but that was already taken.
2) Silverblade is my real name.
3) I wasn't very original and went with the name Silverblade.
Pick one.
reepnorp Thu, 7th Nov '02, 8:46pm "reepnorp" is just some word my friend and I made up. If you must know, it was a very long, very insulting (to us) profanity, or something like that.
SC Thu, 7th Nov '02, 10:15pm Because I was first Shadow Thief, but then decided Goddess was much better, and now S Goddess because it's a lot shorter than Shadow Goddess.
Thorin Thu, 7th Nov '02, 10:25pm My name was taken from the hobbit.
The Deviant Mage Thu, 7th Nov '02, 10:34pm As I said in this post's last incarnation, this is my mother's maiden name.
The Irreligious Paladin Fri, 8th Nov '02, 12:35am Oddly enough I value honor and kindess/goodness above any other traits which is best classified in the paladin class. I have yet to find a religion that puts my beliefs that God is a manifestation of the goodness in men and should be upheld rather than worshipped, or that there is no afterlife, and if there is no afterlife why try to be "good" you ask? well be "good" for yourself and no one else, everything you do affects you more than it affects other people. I am no atheist, I am not anti-Christ, anti-God, anti-religion, or what have you, but I am also not agnostic, meaning that you don't know what you believe. Therefore the paladin becomes irreligious, without religion, a godless, but not faithless champion of good in the face of evil.
Thanks for letting me rant about that.
Herf Fri, 8th Nov '02, 12:40am I'm Herf.
I've been called 'Herf' for more than half my life now... It makes up a substantial part of my second name and it just kinda developed from there...
It's short. It's sweet. And it's satisfying.
I love you all.
Dragon's Jewel Fri, 8th Nov '02, 2:55am I was reeeaaalllly into dragons for a long time, and I thought it sounded kinda elegant...and 13's my lucky number....
It's better than my two old name's which were Rinoa_13 and Asila, which is my name spelled backwards.
Atreides Fri, 8th Nov '02, 3:27am My name, Atreides, is derived from a really interesting series of books written by Frank Herbert. "Atreides" is the name of a family of nobility (or house as it's called in the novels) and for the most part they value the same vertues I do: honor, goodness, justice, etc. I chose the name because I like one of the characters: Duke Leto Atreides (not his son, can't stand Paul (read the novels if you want to understand.)) I used the name in multy player games (LAN sessions) and decided to use it here. I also use the name on gamefaqs.com and everywhere else I create an online account (I like to remain consistant.)
In case your curious, my real name is Justin Jones (my friends call me J. J.) but that's such a dull name to use online in these types of environments.
Intentioner of the Damned Fri, 8th Nov '02, 9:09am @Atreides: pressumably you refer on the whole to Dune. The film is pretty good IMHO :) , but my mates think it's useless.
I kinda stumbled across my name while at work. I was emailing a friend and we started a whole line of roleplay where we were in a dimension similar to this one, where everything could be controlled by Intentions (you know, the same old mind power stuff).
My rank was Intentioner (equivalent to Initiated), and we were of a race known as "The Damned". Thus, Intentioner of the Damned. The character was working on rising through the ranks and may soon become Lord Intentioner of the Damned.
Of course, now that name has stuck with everything (BG, IWD etc)
It's amazing what rubbish you come up with when you're bored. :shake:

Aikanaro Fri, 8th Nov '02, 10:06am Well, I was skimming through my elvish dictionary when I came across it. Aikanaro means Hellfire.
Now of course, my name before this one was the amazingly original zaknafein, bet you can't guess where I got that one :p
Belwar Fri, 8th Nov '02, 12:15pm There was a sviferneblin called Belwar in the Dark elf trilogy, second book(exile), i think :p .
Taluntain Fri, 8th Nov '02, 12:18pm Ah, we haven't had a thread like this in a while so there was no chance to move it to the proper forum yet. Well, here's my chance. This should be in SS.
Falstaff Fri, 8th Nov '02, 3:48pm My name comes straight out of Shakespeare (although apparently there is a beer named after me somewhere across the water).
Falstaff was a companion of Henry V before he became king. He was a really funny guy - drank too much, talked a lot, ran away a lot - well, that is not really what I am like, but I like his character.
Eze Fri, 8th Nov '02, 6:27pm Ezellohar is some hill in Silmarillion. You know, where the Two Trees grew.
Morgoth Fri, 8th Nov '02, 7:38pm Morgoth is the name of the uberdarklord who created orcs and brought hate amongst the elves, also from Silmarillion
Errol Fri, 8th Nov '02, 7:45pm Well...what can I say? I'm a Gopher!
:D
Hmmm.. I can't really remember where it was from, but I seem to remember a friend calling me a Gopher because I was continously doing work for this site... (Spell/Item tutorials, portraits) and So i changed the name from my previous incarnation...*shudder*
Gopher stuck, and several variations have appeared, including Goph, Gophic, Gopherboy, Gophie, Goffo etc etc.
:)
Aziraphale Fri, 8th Nov '02, 8:36pm Aziraphale:
From terry Pratchett's Good Omens.
The angel of the Eastern gate (I just like the big firey sword)...(mmmmm). In his spare time he owns a book shop, not that he sells the books. Over all a nice character with a cool name :)
The gender is slightly mixed up so I've altered it for the chat, Azir :)
Edit: I am curious to know the origin of Taluntain :hmm:

BOC Fri, 8th Nov '02, 8:50pm Just the initials of one of my favourite bands, Blue Oyster Cult.
Atreides, the original name "Atreides" comes from the poems of Homer and it means "The son of Atreas" in ancient greek.
Taluntain Fri, 8th Nov '02, 10:26pm There have been so many threads like this (though not lately), that I don't bother explaining any more. They should still be around in Whatnots, deep down. If you feel like digging, I'm sure you can find them. I explained the name in 3 or 4 of them.
Blog Sat, 9th Nov '02, 4:18am Blog: From a NPC in Ultima Underwold 2, which was by far my favorite RPG before the turn of the century. More specifically, he's a naive, yet fiercely loyal troll.
The 'log' part reflects my interest in math too, but it's just a coincidence that I've noticed.
Uytuun Sat, 9th Nov '02, 4:59pm My nick doesn't really have a history.
It's the name of the character I played BGI->ToB with. Feel free to make up a meaning for it, all suggestions are welcome.
scarampella Sat, 9th Nov '02, 10:29pm Scarampella is the name of a late 19th century, Italian violin maker. I was playing on one at the time and rather liked the sound of it...
Nobleman Mon, 11th Nov '02, 12:19am Tal you spent as much time in explaining that you didn't care to explain, as you would have spent time actually explaining you elvish origin. :p
Nobleman. Hmmm. Just caught it on the fly. I was only gonna leech this place of portraits and ask a question... I thought... *lol*
Off toppic:
The sentence that came out of a anagram-software when I typed in Intentioner of the damned.
"Mad Den of the Teen Riot Inn..." Teens are taking over! led by the Intentioner of the Damned. :shake:

Rastor Mon, 11th Nov '02, 2:17am As I said in the other topic:
There used to be an old D&D board game that was called Dungeon. Whenever my father bought it for the family as a Christmas present long ago, I really got into it, and that served as the gateway to the PnP, then to CRPG. Rastor was the name of one of the Wizard characters in that, who I always played.
Faerus Stoneslammer Tue, 12th Nov '02, 3:24am As I'm sure you can all imagine, Faerus Stoneslammer is the name of the dwarf character that I use in CRPG's.
I didn't put much thought into my name when I came to the boards, because I hadn't expected to actually come back... :o
PS-The name I usually use on the internet, in chatrooms and on Yahoo games, is Bloodied Soldier (bloodiedsoldier)...
Farthy Tue, 12th Nov '02, 4:57am All yours are cool and neat, but none has a stupider and weirder origin than mine.
MANY years ago, I borrowed Mario RPG (yes, on Supernintendo) from my friend when it had come out and wanted to make a file. Since I was only going to have it for a week, I knew the name didn’t need to be serious. I was going to type in “Farthead”, but for some reason, the program messed up and deleted the “e” and “d”, leaving “Fartha” behind. That’s cool I thought. So I name myself “Fartha” on places where I need to be identified on the ‘Net afterwards. That is that. But wait, now where did “Farthy” come from? Well, I actually made the Fartha account first on Boards O’ Magick, but I lost the password for that and I had to think of another name. Coincidentally, Farthy is also the name of a noble in Shadows of Amn attending Lord d’Arnisse’s funeral. So Farthy is actually is corruption of Farthead, hence my listed location in my profile.
Beat that for a name!
Sorvo Tue, 12th Nov '02, 5:39am I wish I knew where I got my name! About 4 years ago I found my old D&D stuff, from when I was a kid. I still had my paladin "Sorvo the Slayer" I was so excited for awhile I actually rollplayed with myself! I still get a smile thinking about redoing "The Keep on the Borderlands" module :) Then I got a computer and came across BG by accident one day in a game store, found this site in search of answers and the rest is history ;) But I still don't know where the HELL I got the name from :flaming:
aegron Tue, 12th Nov '02, 10:14am mine started out as a (huge) typo of my name in real life (gerard) and the -on bit was attached to make it a male name. I used it first for my bg1 character and ever since it has followed me around
Intentioner of the Damned Tue, 12th Nov '02, 12:54pm Damnit Nobleman, you found me out. Now i have to go think up some other Intentionable plan.
(BTW, where can i find such an anagram maker thingy??)

Slith Tue, 12th Nov '02, 6:05pm My name came from the Dragonlance books, the name of a Sivak draconian.
Sniper Tue, 12th Nov '02, 6:58pm Sniper, i got it off playing Counter Strike when i, low and behold was mainly a sharp shooter...
Register Wed, 13th Nov '02, 2:03pm i got mine when i was tired and a friend sat behind me and said that i was an Überspammer... and i have heard the name AssWooper somewhere else too...
See Ya
Fallen Paladin Wed, 13th Nov '02, 9:20pm First thing that came to my mind...
Nutrimat Wed, 13th Nov '02, 10:38pm My nick come from the Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy books. A Nutrimat is a vending machine that does a complete analysis of your tast buds and digestive system, and even sends tiny experimental signals to your brain to see what would go down well. However, no one is sure why it does this because it inevitably produces a brown liquid that is almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea.
This appealed to me for some reason, so it has become a standard nick. Plus, my real name is Matt, so it fit.
Register Wed, 13th Nov '02, 11:31pm addon to my last post...
it is actually spelled 4$$W00P3R the ÜberSpammer but since 1337 spelling is forbidden with death punishment i dont use i here...
@Tal - can you make an exception this time... i have to explain...
See Ya

Erebus Thu, 14th Nov '02, 3:49am Well, my name: Tarsakh, in Faerun literally means "Of the Storms"
DragonRider SkyWard Thu, 14th Nov '02, 12:01pm My name is from my head. It's just ment to be a person riding a dragong flying really high or something like that. But I joined for the same resion as nobleman
Faragon Thu, 14th Nov '02, 1:17pm Faragon was the name of my first Diablo Warrior. Ever since, this has been the name I have used online.
The Soul Forever Seeking Fri, 15th Nov '02, 3:01am My name has more to do with me than with role-playing. For whatever reason, no matter what I do, no matter where I go, I've always felt that something is... missing. I've spent most of my life that I can remember seeking whatever it is that's missing. I don't know if it's the coolest material possession ever, or a person, or whatever, I just know that I don't have it.
Slightly off topic, have you ever noticed that dwarves ALWAYS have last names like Stormhammer or Orcsbane? I mean, really. Even the ancient sega fighting game Golden Axe's dwarf was named Gilius Thunderhead.
Tarol'azh, a.k.a.Tobias Fri, 15th Nov '02, 10:53pm My name came from my monk's name on BG2. I wanted to do something like Dak'kon, so I did this instead. Also, you can find an anagram server @ rd.com. Look for it.
Vince Clortho Sun, 17th Nov '02, 9:31am I originally used this name for my Pilot in X-Wing...(just Clortho, since there was a character limit, if memory serves: clorhto.plt) but it comes from Ghostbusters. Vince Clortho is the name that Rick Moranis' character gives after he is possessed: Vince Clortho, The Keymaster of Ghoser. Ghoser the Ghoserian, Ghoser the Destructor, etc. "I am the Gatekeeper: are you the Keymaster?"
:D
MagnusMagus Sun, 17th Nov '02, 10:16am MagnusMagus is very bad latin for "Master of Magic" :)
Other names i`ve been known to use across the net:
Orions_Stardom - My wierd sense of er.. "humour" mixing with the constilation Orion.
MagusWizardo - Roughly- *very* roughly - Master of Wizards.
Snicker - *snicker, snicker*
SookmaCook - You don`t wanna know. Trust me on that.
Lennon - My real name (I was named after some guy called John :) ).
Don`tAsk - well, don`t :p
Firkraag - fairly obvious, unless you haven`t played the greatest game of all time. :)
Me - Hi, i`m Me. :)
Tarol'azh, a.k.a.Tobias Thu, 21st Nov '02, 11:17pm I do!
Rallymama Fri, 22nd Nov '02, 2:15pm Hubby used to race RC cars, and I started to out of boredom. My car was in the class called "rally car" - miniature, RC-versions of the lunatics you see on Speedvision. I was the only woman racing that class and I was pregnant at the time, so my handle became rallymama and I use it everywhere online now. It's very easy to type! ;)
Register Sun, 24th Nov '02, 4:42am my new nick i just came up with when i started a new character to Seiken Detentsu 3e ie Secret of Mana 2... Ivanji, son of Loki, mercenary of Forcena... it klings good doesn`t it... i was AssWooper the ÜberSpammer

The Deviant Mage Sun, 24th Nov '02, 9:00am MagnusMagus, that is truly bad latin. FYI, 'magnus' means 'big' or 'great.' And while your word order isn't incorrect per se, it would be better as MagusMagnus.
I don't know if 'magus' is magic or not (seems rather likely), but at best your nick means Great Magic. It's not '___ of Magic' because it would need to be in the genitive form to imply the 'of,' while magnus is the nominative form.
[EDIT: Thanks Uytuun.]
[ November 25, 2002, 20:41: Message edited by: The Deviant Mage ]
Uytuun Sun, 24th Nov '02, 9:13am Actually 'magus' means wizard (although it can also mean magical). So Magus Magnus would be great wizard.
Master of magic would be 'Magiae Dominus/Dominator'.
EDIT[no problem The Deviant Mage] ;)

Tarol'azh, a.k.a.Tobias Fri, 13th Dec '02, 10:33pm Thorin is one of the dwarves, FYI.

Sorcerers scores! Err...

Mortensen Tue, 17th Dec '02, 9:23pm My name is from Viggo Mortensen , who plays Aragorn in Lord of the Rings: The fellowship of the Ring :hahaerr:
Kam Tue, 17th Dec '02, 9:37pm My name is from Kam Solusar, one of Luke Skywalker's Jedi who teaches at his Academy. I really liked the character and thought it was a neat name. I'm also using it for my PnP character, a Fey'ri Fighter/Wizard/Bladesinger. On a kind of side note, I think Star Wars novels are a great source of character names.
Morgoth Tue, 17th Dec '02, 10:21pm Morgoth = HOG MORT
Dead pig??
Tarol'azh, a.k.a.Tobias Tue, 17th Dec '02, 10:23pm @ Morgoth:      !
Also, I don't know if I should post this, but some of the more interesting anagrams for 'Taluntain' are:
Titan ulna Nail taunt Natal unit Annual tit A latin nut (kind of an oxymoron, seeing as he hasn't posted on the Latin for All Occasions thread... Anal in tutSorry if they're really offensive, but they're anagrams. I can't do anything about it.
