How do you advance in gems no?

Also, if someone with my gem number can,
how do i get a portrait? If I can, what is a good site?

But since you won't:

1) You advance in gems by posting. The more posts, the higher the gem level.

2) You get an avatar or portrait by contributing something to SP's main site content (or writing a game review). Taluntain, the admin, has set up a site with all the available avatars/portraits, and you will get that site when, and only when, you qualify for a avatar.
