I'll continue to update it as the RBPs end and begin. I had been hoping that noone would notice this for a full day so I could put my notes right below the times, but I wasn't really expecting it. So here goes:

Longest lasting RBP ever: the original "Doh" post by Slappy lasted 80 days, 11 hours, and 10 minutes (despite the handicap of a 300-post limit as compared to our 500-post limit today).

Shortest lasting RBP ever (so far): RBP #54 lasted only 6 days, 13 hours, and 4 minutes!

Hmmm, that bears investigating - which RB thread had the most/fewest different posters; which poster was most frequent in any one thread/all threads; mean #of posters/thread; mean #of posts/poster; etc. etc.

If you're taking a stats course, you could maybe even use this little study as an extra-credit assignment or something... :D

The PfRB,PwSS only goes up to six and NsSP never needed numbers. The RBPs are in blocks of ten, so I thought that would be rather easy to figure out. :hmm: I'll try something out; let me know what you think.

On a side note, I think it's interesting to note how the record for shortest RBP was set for over a year after BTA threatened to shut them down permanently when he closed #11.

Wow, the actual Random Babbling Posts have been around for exactly one week more than me! It's hard to believe I've already been here for three years.

I've added three newly found threads to the beginning (thanks again, Ara!) and have some more stats to impart. Looking in the first ten threads (all the pre-RBP ones) for the current top six posters, I found:

Yes you are. :p Keep in mind that your 73 posts covered only one-and-a-half RBPs. That's 73/~760 which is almost 10%. Even the ever-spamming chev only had 8%, and Ara (who disappeared toward the end) only had 6%. Even Jaguar (who had every other post on one page) only had 89/~1270, which is 7.5% IICC.

Yeah, I disappear quiote a lot in the middle; I have been forced to spend months at a time away from SP, as you can see from my postcount.... if the average amount of posts/day from the last year of unlinmited (mostly) internet access is applied to the time I've spent here, you see I am about 3K short :p

I'm strangely curious as to how many posts I have in the RBP, as well, considering I generally ONLY post there...

Okay, so I lied. I got bored with the same old same old and decided to do something different for a change of pace. So I checked the total post counts for each of the threads, and now we have a grand total of 28,770 for the first 60 threads (from "Doh" to #50). And all of SP rejoiced, for their words had counted for something (specifically, one). ;)

I still got #47-#50 to parse for individuals, but I'm nearly there. :)

Fascinating. I have now plummetted to 7th on the all-time RBP list. Still means approximately 10% of my posts are worthless spam in RBP which still seems a bit high but never mind.

I mean, before you said the person needs at least 800 posts to be counted as regular, but, I mean, I'm here almost everyday, and I only have 500 posts. I've been here since August '05 and I have 1145 posts, that's a lot of spam... and according to my calculations, I have an average count of 229.6 posts per month, and I should reach 2700 posts by august, so if I keep spamming that much, while you, Shrikant, have an average of 68.36 per month, or 820.33 per year, so NYAH! :p

Shrikant's table just goes to show that I take the time and effort to post interesting spam and not just chat to other SPers. :tie:

Tal do you actually go through in count each thing, or did you write a program to identify the name of each person, and it identifies how many times it has been used as a poster, or something like that?

I personally go through and count them. And to anticipate your next question: yes, I'm completely insane. :shake: But it doesn't take as long as you think, and I can still do other things on the computer at the same time I'm skimming (though at a slower rate than if I weren't skimming).

No, I keep tallying new RBs separate from tallying new counts. You'll notice that it only says (current through #53) at the moment, which means I haven't counted anyone's posts in 54 or 55 yet. When I've got everyone up to the same spot, then I go through new RBPs and count everyone on the list. When I do a run-through, I'm just getting the new names on the list up to speed with the others.

TBH, I'm not sure which will come first: run-through 6 or catch-up for RBPs #54 & #55. Probably the former on account of Undertaker's chomping at the bit. :shake: Also, it shouldn't take too long since I would only have to go back a year into the RBs instead of all the way back to the beginning. That's 40 threads I won't have to skim. :cool:

I expect to be overtaken by at least 4 people by the time you next update the list.

Undertaker and Susipaisti's counts (through #53) are up now, and I can finally start tallying up the latest RBs. Hopefully I'll have all the counts updated by the weekend.

Okay, this has gone on long enough. HB, you are one of the worst spammers I have ever seen; worse than even Ara. All this thread counts is posts in the RB, where most of us actually have something to say. But you never do. All you do is respond to other people's posts and then complain that the RB has gotten too chatty.

If we were to count actual SPAM (in all threads, not just the RBs), your number would likely be around 4K by now. ;) But not even I have the kind of time it would require to look at every thread in the archives to find your posts that added absolutely nothing. Meanwhile, most of the rest of us would have our numbers actually decrease since most of our RB posts wouldn't count.

That said (in jest, of course :D ), you're at number 9 and have been there for a while. In fact, you almost made it back up to 8 when you bypassed Lai, but DotW blasted up past both of you. And seeing as you've been posting twice as much as me in the RB lately (and certainly more than Lai), you're not likely to be pushed down to double-digits too soon. :p

All this thread counts is posts in the RB, where most of us actually have something to say. But you never do. Somebody has to do the responding, so people know that the 'something' they 'actually' have to say, is 'actually' being read by someone.

And I'm not complaining that the RB has got too 'chatty', more that it is full of rubbish that seems to get spewed out at an astonishing rate - which prompted Tal's 'bloody spammers' warning at the start of the last RBP.

Now, now, kuemp, this isn't a competition. I don't really mind about my position in the Spammer Hall of Fame, to be honest.

But your wish will be granted, as I am switching ISPs next month, and I might be MIA for a while. We'll see what happens.

Feel free; I'm certainly not going to do it. :heh: And how you do it is of course your business. It doesn't matter if you do it thread-by-thread, page-by-page, post-by-post, or even every 13 posts or something silly like that. Accuracy is the only thing you have to answer for, so everything else is your choice, including appointing a successor should you be unable or unwilling to continue.

The one piece of advice I will give you is to name it similarly (MBP History), so that anyone looking for the full series can find them all easily. I fully expect to start up an SBP (Sports) History should the original SBP thread ever close. :grin:

Well, it's not exactly a 'new format' per se, as much as it is a new feature. I took a quick look through the RBs to see who got first reply to each thread and put that up there. And why was I not surprised that the spammy HB got the most? :shake: The only exception to the rule is Headbanger's "first", which was actually the second reply in that thread, but the first, posted by Mirkwood (since unregistered), was deleted by an angry Tal, so it doesn't count by any measure.

Also, Ofelix has hit exactly 1000 RB posts, solidifying his title of Prince of SPAM. The King and Queen are (as ever) chev and Ara, but by the looks of it, the Crown Prince has designs on the SPAM throne. :heh: I'll get some percentages up post haste.

EDIT:
Okay, the percentages are up, and yes DS, 30% is bad. ;) It puts you at fifth (of 22) right behind the worst: Lai, DotW, Ara, and Ofelix. Interestingly, DotW is now above Ara percentage-wise.

Sorry kuemp, but to qualify for Prince or Princess of SPAM you must get to quadruple digits. You shouldn't be too far away by now, but I'm going to put off tallying #63 until I've got Shell and Dfly's counts up.

Even with the last two month's at best sporadic spam, I haven't lost my place. Interesting.

Dfly and Shell are in now, and everything is up to date. You can thank my busted laptop for the sudden influx of activity on this. Anyway, we finally have someone who has over 50% of their posts in the RB (up to March 9th, anyway): Dragonfly had 880 posts in the RB out of 1618.

kuemper's probably up to at least 1000 RB posts by the time of this post, making her a true Princess of SPAM, but it doesn't become official until RBP#65 closes and is tallied. And, astonishingly, it looks like Dfly will be another SPAM Princess soon, as she's likely up to at least 950 by now, having appeared on the list right at #5 and bumping just about everybody down a spot. She is truly a dedicated spammer. :shake:

Oy. People, settle down. It requires at least 1000 posts in the RBP to be royalty, and as the counts go up I may have to revise that for inflation. Ara is the undisputed Queen of SPAM, chev is the current King, Ofelix is the Prince, and kuemper is the Princess. That's ALL for now, but some may be added later.

Now, I have to admit I like the idea of the SPAM Lords and Ladies, but I think that should be determined by the percentages. This one wouldn't need to be adjusted for inflation, so I'm setting a firm one-third rule. The people who qualify are Dragonfly, Arabwel, Laiwethel, Disciple, and Ofelix.

Now, since chev doeesn't qualify I declare the Kingdom of SPAM to be a matriarchy under the rule of Queen Arabwel, who has granted her son Ofelix a lordship of his own. DotW, Lai, and Dfly are the other lord and ladies of the land. Ara, disappointed by her daughter kuemper's lack of interest in the running of the kingdom, is looking to adopt/birth another daughter or two (though she may get sons along the way ;) ). Sound good?

I'm also going to be dropping Ragusa from the list if he doesn't post at least once anywhere on the boards in the next month. Keeping the static low stat up there for someone who likely doesn't care anymore (if he ever did in the first place, since I put him on myself) just doesn't make any sense to me.

People on the list have their counts updated every time I tally an RBP, which is completely separate from the run-throughs; run-throughs are only to count for people I add to the list, in RBP threads that I've already counted for everyone else. You can check on your status by looking at the third post on the first page. Anything else you need to know?

Won't know for a while, I'm afraid. Tallying RBP #68 (and #69 & any after) will have to wait until I've finished the run-through. That's how it goes, simply because I don't see the point in tallying a thread twice (if I did 68 now, I'd just have to do it again when the run-through got to it).

P.S. FYI, your first appearance in the RBP was in #11.

Actually, DotW, that's been nixxed. The Lord and Lady thing too. Too much glorification of SPAM. I'll never stop considering Ara the Queen, of course, but the rest of the titles go. If you really must, follow the guidelines I set out before, but I won't support it, and I wouldn't go spouting it too much or you'll likely face ridicule. ;) So has it been written, so shall it be done.

Also see my post above for the reason why I haven't updated your count. You're likely over 1000 by now, but I don't really know for sure. Nor will I for a while.

Hey, Fel...have you stopped doing RBP counts? Back on May 4th, you said that you were currently tallying #68, but at this point in time, we're on RBP #73.

Ive made almost 300 more posts since you last counted my total RBP posts, and if at all possible, I'd like an update. :D

I'm still doing the counts, and you're missing a couple things. First, it was #67, not #68. Second, you're missing that I was doing a run-through; which took me a bit more time than usual because I was doing it only occasionally. But right now I've got the counts for Dalveen, Daie, Nakia, and Magpie up to not only #67, but also everyone up to #68.

In short, I'm currently working on getting caught up after the necessary run-through delay, and I'll post when it's up to date. Until then, you can see when I've last worked on it just by looking at the edit date for the third post in the thread.

I have an average count of 229.6 posts per month, and I should reach 2700 posts by august, My first SP anniversary is coming soon...

...I now have definitive proof that Harbourboy has absolutely no life at all. As of September 1st, he had 8,072 posts. Since then, in only 46 days, he has posted over 2000 times to raise his count to 10,312. That's an average of ~48.7 posts per day. And I can only imagine the kind of content-light posts they were. :rolleyes:

Updated counts and percentages, and finally remembered to add percentages for the four people in the last run-through. So Daie, Dal, Mags and Nakia can now see what percentage of their posts are in the RBP.

On a bit of a lark, I did a quick search for Uri's posts in Whatnots, having noticed the posts in RBP #83. Turns out those were his first RB posts, so I decided to beat the possible news post numbers to the punch and add him, rather than end up doing it down the line and having to skim back through dozens of RBPs.

Caught up after a bit of a slump. Percentages updated as well.
