Heh, that got your attention, did it? I'm curious to know if there are other french-canadians on the boards apart from Ofelix and myself. If there are, express yourselves!

Ofelix
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 4:00am
I do! I do! I rise! Now where's my weapon and evil scheme to take over BOM? :hmm:

Disciple of The Watch
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 4:11am
We'll dominate BOM with our unbeleivable number of swear words in our native language and an evil scheme involving poutine infused with some mind-controlling herbs. Muhahahahaha!

:D

Ofelix

involving poutine infused with some mind-controlling herbs. Muhahahahaha!

Wow talk about evil Don't forget the mayonaise on fries/crips...

Disciple of The Watch
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 4:26am
Mayonaise? Now *that's* evil.

Ofelix
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 4:53am
Why Mayonais IS good on fries, despite what people say. Anyway with the two of us we won't really do anything shall we?

Disciple of The Watch
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 4:56am
That's true. Time to take possession of the poutine infused with these mind controlling herbs (now that I think about it, it reminds me of one of Jan's stories in BG2) and start distributing them all around the world!

Question: What's worse than a Frenchman?

Answer: A French-Canadian! :shake:

Just kidding. :p

Welcome to the BoM Shadow Scorpion. :rolling:

Disciple of The Watch

We're not so terrible! Try one of our famous Poutines, you'll like it...

Thanks, Kitrax. Good to be part of the family!

We're not so terrible! Try one of our famous Poutines, you'll like it...Agreed, they ARE delicious. Being french canadian myself, I know it. :D

In fact, I happen to live in Montreal as well, Ofelix.

I was never sure how many french-canadians actually read this board. If any others are lurking around, don't hesitate to post! :)

Disciple of The Watch
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 5:33am
Ah-ha! See, Ofelix? I TOLD you there were some more of our kind on the boards!

Ofelix
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 1:06pm
But yeah, I mean togheter you have a post count that I could achieve in two days... and as far as I am concerned Nick92's post was his first.

And why should you be the brain?

The Magpie
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 2:32pm
Umm... What is a poutine?

I can confirm that mayo on chips is awesome, though. I tried it when I was on an exchange in Hamburg, and have been hooked since. And how I miss Bratwurst and curry sauce... :yum:

Carcaroth
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 2:35pm
Better not tell Barmy about the mayo.

Khann
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 2:48pm
Hi all,

I do not usually post, but I will make an effort for this.
Colour me green and call me froggie for I am French Canadian.

BTW, I thought that our plan to takes over the BoM (and later the world) was secret?

Magpie: Poutine is fries with gravy and cheese. Food fit for gods... ;) .

The Magpie
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 2:53pm
Gravy & cheese?

Northeners are known for having gravy on chips, but gravy & cheese?! :whoa: It sounds like two completely opposite flavours, and not in a good complemetary way, either.

Still, I should withhold judgement until I try it, I 'spose, but I'm not sure I'd pick it out by choice...

Drugar
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 3:19pm
Well, those chips and gravy do not sound very tasty to me...

Chips with lots of salt and mayo or saté are the bomb!

DarkStrider
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 3:44pm
Chips and mayo - ok
Chips and gravy - needs faggots as well
Chips and cheese - I can feel my arteries hardening
Chips, gravy and cheese - I thought the french could cook !!!!!!

Disciple of The Watch
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 4:37pm
Despite how weird it sounds, poutine is *great* stuff. It's even better when topped with smoked meat and BBQ flavoured cheese
Though one of my friends used to topis his with mayo... scary.

Try it, you'll see, it's great

Ofelix, what, you don't approve my choice of being the brain? I carry the wisdom of age! Respect your elders, young punk! :D

Just kidding.

Drugar
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 4:43pm
Well, the combinations of cheese and mayo I can understand, but together with gravy turns my stomache around!

The only thing that should have gravy on it are cooked or mashed potatoes.

Hehe, well, DarkStrider, I guess you're a fan of fine cuisine, then. Our gastronomy must seem childishly simple.

Yeah! BBQ flavoured cheese

Preparing a poutine is a labor of love, you know! The fries, the gravy, the cheese, the smoked meat, the BBQ flavoured cheese...

And if it sounds weird... I understand. This was a recipe I came up with when stoned. I found smoked meat and BBQ cheese in the fridge and dumped that on the poutine, and that was the beginning of a wonderful love story... or stomach-churning story for you fine cuisine amateurs out there :D

@ Bion: Ah, some swearing in our native language! Sweet!

Arabwel
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 5:52pm
... you are weird.

But yay for msyo on chips/fries/whatever ya want to call 'ems!

Disciple of The Watch
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 5:58pm
Yes, I am weird, I know.

No, seriously, withouth my modding it, poutine is fine food, indeed. We should do a BoM bamquet with five services of poutine... bring your own antiacid :D

Rallymama
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 6:34pm
Mayo is inherently disgusting. It shouldn't be used for anything other than binding a salad or dip together, and then only in the absolute minimum quantity possible and well-doctored with things to disguise its taste.

Gravy on fries, however, is bliss. I'd be will to try a poutine...

Laiwethel
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 6:38pm
Then there's the poutine that you can use to fill potholes :p .

It's good stuff, albeit artery clogging. And I'm not even French-Canadian. Just Canadian.

Chips, gravy and cheese - I thought the french could cook !!!!!! Good thing we ain't French eh? No seriously it's good

No the worst thing I saw was Ketchup with poutine...

And there's always the italian poutine while despite the name is also french-canadian, you just replace the gravy by tomato sauce, Or just add it ;)

Disciple of The Watch
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 10:21pm
Urgh, Ofelix, your mention of ketchup with poutine reminds me of my ex... she used to ate poutine with ketchup *and* mayonaise. The poutine was a f***** up tint of pink...

Urgh... how disgusting. :bang:

I know cheese fries are heavenly, but I'm a little hesitant to add gravy to the mix. :hmm:

You guys are wierd BBQ-flavoured cheese ?? (Ooh, a cheese question for the Wisconsinite!) It's called smoked cheddar and it's absolutely delicious. :yum:

Disciple of The Watch
Fri, 23rd Sep '05, 10:51pm
Uh, Felinoid, while the kind of cheese you talk about is mouth-watering, that isn't exactly what I was talking about. I was plainly and dumbly speaking of gouda curls marinated in a BBQ aroma...

Argh, all this food is making me hungry. Time to order some Domino's.

Rolsuk Fryulee

Another of the French Canadians here. Now mind you, not just any cheese will do to make poutine, you need cheese curds :yum: now we're talking!

Well, now that we've gotten the French-Canadians attention, I'd like to talk to you on behalf of the Newfies here. Let's renegotiate the Churchhill Falls deal, m'kay? And get a *definitive* border between Quebec and Labrador.

I tried poutine and it sucks majorly! :toofar: :p

@shadow scorpion yes I'm a gastromand I like the fine things in life as I can afford them; but even when stoned or another influence I don't cook wierd although once I did cook venison forrestierre fo myself and friends. :D

@Felinoid Smoked cheddar is delicious but here it's smoked using oak which has nothing to do with bbq

@DarkStrider: enjoying the finer things in life is good. What's the point of living if you can't enjoy it's finest?

Hmm, time to light an Al Capone cigar, with a glass of VS cognac on ice.

Tellement beaucoup de Canadiens français et tous parlent anglais entre eux. You are Polish yourself and yet you speak english. But yeah I too find this quite err... strange. Oh and you find three '' tellement beaucoup''? (which is french, but you're not going to hear it from a native... sorry pal ;) )

Isn't this thread going really wayyyy out of subject?

@ofelix - :shake: Please tell me this is in jest, else a side thread on this issue'll have to start up in Lingering Sighs; I got a pack full of Treaties, Acts and judicial decisions clearly defining the Quebec-Newfoundland border; in the end with either tacit or expressed agreement by the government of Quebec. Its own commission in '91 found no legal recourse to reopening determination of the boundry. Apart from the significant movement for Labrador to be an independent province of its own, any re-appropriation of territory to Quebec would have to be at the consent of Newfoundland and Labrador, which leads to the questions:

How much do you want, and what'll ya give us for that? :D

@Scorp - You plead being a minority of three to a single man who represents his ethnicity/nationality alone? :heh:

(@chev - or am I mistaken and have I miscounted other natives of Poland who frequent SP?)

ANYWAY, all this said, I like poutine; I like (most of) the Quebecois spirit.

Vive Quebec; vive humeur; vive passion!

@Bion - now-now; "stole"? You seem to be forgetting the Treaties of Utrecht & Paris that His Most Christian Majesty *gave* Her Britannic Majesty (and His BM in the latter Treaty's case) Labrador, Anticosti, the Magdalene Islands, etc.

Through acts of the Britsh throne in 1809 and 1825, these lands were divvied up between Newfoundland (now "Newfoundland and Labrador") and Lower Canada (now Quebec), reaffirmed by a decision of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in 1927 which was asked for and accepted by the two relevant parties Nfld & Canada (at the behest of its member province Quebec), and confirmed again when Newfoundland entered confederation with Canada in 1949.

The only parties involved in the disbursement of this land that were not represented are the original inhabitants, whose culture sadly did not emphasize ownership of land - because they were willing to share, they got pushed out of the way. :(

And before anyone starts, NO I do not have a grudge against Quebec or its government over the Upper Churchill Falls hydroelectric development deal - it was a FAIR deal...at the time. (c'mon; who knew an energy crisis would cause the price of electricity to jump just a few years later?!? :) Lucky for Quebec & unlucky for Newfoundland *shrug* )

Anyway, enough of dealing with that one; on to happier things:

@ofelix - bien, la raison que nous des anglos barbares ;) trainons est NOUS VOUS AIMENT ! :D C'est un fil interessant et different, et sans compter que - car j'ai dit - I *comme* le poutine! :yum:

(And my apologies now for the probably awkward and likely Parisian french, as well as the lack of diacritics; it's been over a decade since I've used my government-mandated bilingual education this much...)

On the subject of poutine, Italian poutine is not only made of tomato sauce, but with spaghetti meat sauce. Much better..... :D

Since when have the words "French-canadians, rise and shine!" ever translated to "Let's all randomly babble outside of the random babbling thread!" ?

I'm certain it doesn't translate that way in English, and though my French is rusty, I'm pretty sure it doesn't translate that way in French either.
