View Full Version : The Tribe of Sorcerer's Place
Death Rabbit Mon, 26th Sep '05, 6:31pm So I was watching "Dances with Wolves" again for like the 90th time the other day (I still get misty when Two-Socks gets killed  ) when I got an idea. In the film (and probably in most Native American cultures) people were given names with literal translations based on a particular trait, or quality, or situation, etc. For example: John Dunbar becomes "Dances with Wolves" because he's seen playing in the field with a wolf; "Stands with a Fist" was named for standing up for herself against that mean lady; "Kicking Bird" was named so because when he visited Sesame Street gave Big Bird a beat-down, etc. There were also "Wind in his Hair," "Smiles-a-lot," etc. The names are generally complimentary, and often specific to a particular mental image (but not always).
So I thought it'd be fun (and funny) to start the first official SP Indian (or Injun) tribe, and begin naming our members.
So to start off, let's try a few:
chev: Spams for Jesus :pope:
Sorvo: Swims in his Beer
Eh, that's all I got so far. :aww:
For some reason I'm finding myself not terribly creative this morning, so I'll stop there for now. Anyhoo, you get the idea. It'll be fun to see what the gang comes up with.
ps - If you're offended by the whole "Indian" thing, then your name shall be "Needs to Lighten Up." ;) :p
Blackthorne TA Mon, 26th Sep '05, 6:55pm The first that leaped to mind:
Arabwel: Types with Mittens
The Magpie Mon, 26th Sep '05, 7:26pm Surely that should be "leapt to mind", eh Blackthorne? ;)
Which I guess means that mine ought to be:
The Magpie: Posts with Pedantry - but Imprecisely :D :o
EDIT: hey, if you've got wings you don't need to look :p

Blackthorne TA Mon, 26th Sep '05, 7:32pm Since "leaped" or "leapt" are equally correct, I will now have to add:
The Magpie: Leaps before Looking
Felinoid Mon, 26th Sep '05, 9:19pm Felinoid: Moves Too Fast
(To give you an idea what I mean by that, here's an old joke:)
A man walks into a bar. ... Ouch.
Ofelix Tue, 27th Sep '05, 12:15am These ones come to mind
Ofelix; Speak a foreing tongue
Bion; Conspiracy for Pink
The Magpie Tue, 27th Sep '05, 12:28am A few more that came to me:

Arifirh: He Who Drinks Tea
TKC: Man In Skirt
:D :D :D
jaded empath Tue, 27th Sep '05, 1:56am @Ofelix - no, not quite; Bion would be "Seer of Conspiracies" (also has a pseudo-religious air thanks to the word 'seer') :D
I guess lookin at my penchant for 'just one more thing', I'd be "Knows Not When to End a Post" :hahaerr:
Felinoid Tue, 27th Sep '05, 2:16am kuemper: Waves Big Pointy Things (no, not those :shake: )
Anyone who's especially injury-prone could be: Runs with Scissors
NonSequitur Tue, 27th Sep '05, 4:03am Aldeth: Polls With Abandon
Harbourboy: Talks Sense And Reason
I'm trying to think who best deserves the mantles of "Rants Against Conservatives" (I'm thinking Ragusa).
EDIT: If I had to put mine up, I'm guessing it'd be Dares-To-Be-Stupid or Seeks Common Ground.

Felinoid: Types Telekinetically
Ragusa: More Gripes With The American Government Than The Chief
Bion Tue, 27th Sep '05, 11:27pm @apathetic empath: heh, that would make a great new tagline for my avatar! That is, if Tal doesn't change it again right away. :mommy:
Ragusa (alt): Rags on the USA
(Poor Rags, I miss the rants...)
I suppose that also makes:
Rutkowski: Ruts with Kows on Skis
Felinoid Tue, 27th Sep '05, 11:42pm @Bion:
 Does that mean that I'm: Feels Lynn's Noids? (Makes me sound like an ear, nose, and throat doctor.) :hahaerr:
P.S. For those who have less than 4 sinus infections a year and are unfamiliar with the terminology, the adenoids are the fleshy mass at the back of the nose and throat.
