I keep getting pop-ups from secwave.vo.llnwd..... when I'm on SP. I have pop-ups blocked and I've updated my adware software, but I keep getting them here. What gives? Anyone else having this issue?

Pop-ups is what keeps this site alive. No pop-ups = no money. So please, don't block the advertisement on this site.

I still get all the adverts, despite being an SPS member (and logged in now). It doesn't really bother me to be honest. (I don't get the pop-ups though, the company system prevents it somehow)

Do you log in as an SPS member on the frontpage, Carcaroth? That's where ads are disabled.

And don't block the pop-ups with ad-blocking software, please. :( Tal already had to put some new ads on the forum pages to support SP.

How pop-ups work? You get the money every time it shows up or something similar? If I block the pop up, you don't get the money?
Just want to know, I let the pops come out, no trouble at all for me, just want to know how they work.

It depends on the arrangement, but in this case, SP gets money when the pop-ups load fully.

Firefox Adblock has a nice option. It lets the ads load, but hides them from view. SP gets money, I get no ads, and everyone's happy.

Something that might help with the SP getting money is the ReloadEvery extension. Set that to refresh the page every ten seconds, and assuming the banner companies pay out just for the banners loading, SP gets several times the money.

I'll experiment.

EDIT: Just realised that was rather off-topic. Sorry.

Carcaroth, you need to be logged in via the Supporter Login on the right side of any page of Sorcerer's Place (e.g. http://www.sorcerers.net/index.php#sps_login ) to disable the ads. Just PM me if you need help with that.

Alavin, just for the record, I don't believe in that "load but hide" dealie with Firefox. The majority of plug-ins just block them, end of the deal. And there's really no way for me to check if they're really just hidden from view, or if they count as loaded at all.

Not to mention that the point is moot since if they're hidden they can never be clicked on and hence bring in very little. It's the clicks now and then that help maintain at least a modicum of revenue.

So it's more like "SP gets next to no money (if any at all), I get no ads, and I'm happy." that's closer to reality. Provided the ads are actually loaded and counted at all, of course. Which they aren't in most cases with blockers.

And you have no idea how annoying it is to have pages refreshing every X seconds. Totally out of the question on the boards, for obvious reasons, but also on the site since I can't stand all that constant reloading. And then think of the people on dial-up... And besides, as I said, the ads don't pay just for impressions. Most of them need to have clicks also.

Well, I have to wait about 10 seconds if I refresh, but in 4 days I'll have ASDL 1MB :D

Ah, I understand. I'll let SP ads show again, then.

so if I click on a popup then let it load and close it, you get money?

I was talking about regular ads on site and board pages there. As for pop-ups, you don't need to click on any of them. Just letting them load before closing them is enough.

Yes, I'm logged in on the front page as well, as I said, the add's don't bother me though.

Pop-ups are blocked by the company, not through my choice.

Carcaroth, there are 3 possible login options. Log out there and you'll see a drop-down box in the login frame. Click on the (help) link and you'll see detailed explanations of which ads are removed with a certain login option.

The default option #1 only removes pop-ups all over the domain, and ads on the boards, but leaves the other ads on the site.

#2 leaves only the top banner on the site, and #3 kills all ads completely.
