View Full Version : Downtime?
Disciple of The Watch Wed, 6th Jun '07, 6:59am During today, I've attempted to check out the BoM, a I've stumbled upon a good old 404 - or rather the new 404s, the ads pages. Couldn't log on any parts of the site - the BoM and even the SP site leaded to a 404.
Since no one has pointed out yet, I thought I might as well do it. Oh, it happened twice, at least to my knowledge.
The Magister Wed, 6th Jun '07, 8:14am That happend to me last night, but I think it was just my connection acting up.
Nakia Wed, 6th Jun '07, 8:44am I've had sporadic trouble of that kind but usually if I hit 'back' button and try again it works.
Marceror Wed, 6th Jun '07, 4:43pm I was getting 404s yesterday when attempting to hit sorcerers.net as well.
Dinsdale Wed, 6th Jun '07, 5:42pm I had the same problem last night.
Felinoid Wed, 6th Jun '07, 6:20pm These problems are due to Tal having to change hosting providers. It'll be bumpy for a while, but we can ride it out.
Taluntain Wed, 6th Jun '07, 7:15pm Actually, the problems mentioned here had nothing to do with the change of the hosting provider (we have a separate one for SPS accounts).
The problems you've seen were due to a mistaken change of the domain name servers during the transfer of the domain to a new registrar. I've fixed the error on the registrar's part two hours after they've made it, but since DNS changes, once made, take several hours to propagate all over the world, my fix was basically a few hours behind the initial problem, which means that it's come while the servers around the world have just started accepting the erroneous "new" DNS servers. So depending on your location, everything was a bit of a mess for a while.
DNS propagation usually takes up to 48 hours for the whole world, so it's possible that some of you might still experience issues today or tomorrow, but hopefully not. Though I'm not quite sure how you've managed to see SP's 404s (which would require you being able to access the domain, obviously), and 404s shouldn't display when there are legitimate pages there, but the domain mess-up is the only explanation I can think of at this point. If you still notice any odd things going on after tomorrow, do contact me with a bit more detail (and if at all possible, a screenshot of the issue).
Disciple of The Watch Wed, 6th Jun '07, 8:15pm I pondered the possibility of DNS issues as one of the possible problems (along with server downtime, which seemed the most plausible), but I didn`t considered it as possibly the root of the problem until Fel mentioned the hosting provider change.
The problem hasn`t popped up again, but if it does, I`ll grab a screenshot and send it your way.
Duffin Wed, 6th Jun '07, 8:21pm I had a 404 advertising page too for all of yesterday.
Uytuun Sun, 10th Jun '07, 12:38am I had no problems at all...
Enagonios Sat, 30th Jun '07, 8:18am I got a "site down for maintenance" at around 3:30am this morning
Taluntain Sat, 30th Jun '07, 4:20pm You mean on the boards? That was just scheduled maintenance. As long as it actually says maintenance, it's all right. ;)
