View Full Version : Site & Board Move Completed
Taluntain Tue, 24th Jul '07, 8:33pm If you're reading this, you've reached Sorcerer's Place on the new server. It's taken a bit longer than I expected to get the boards back online, but anyway, here we are, hopefully without any issues. :)
If you spot anything unusual or any problems with how the boards or the site are behaving, please let me know right away. I still need to tie a few loose ends (integration of the news posted on the boards to show on the front page), but mostly everything else should already be functional.

Embelical cord reattached. Whew. :D
Ziad Tue, 24th Jul '07, 10:47pm Hurray for the new server!
Can't really tell the difference before and after. I suppose that's a good sign :)
DarkStrider Tue, 24th Jul '07, 11:10pm Nice work Tal :thumb:
kuemper Tue, 24th Jul '07, 11:57pm Ahh, the withdrawl symptons are fading away now.
Enagonios Wed, 25th Jul '07, 12:13am was pretty shocked when I got home kinda drunk and couldn't log on the other night hehe :D
Decados Wed, 25th Jul '07, 12:25am Ah good, we're back.
Saber Wed, 25th Jul '07, 12:37am Does being on a new server mean more bandwidth, or? What exactly changed?
kuemper Wed, 25th Jul '07, 4:21am was pretty shocked when I got home kinda drunk and couldn't log on the other night hehe Did you think Tal put up a drunk lock to keep you from posting nonsense again? :p
*echoes Saber's questions*
Kitrax Wed, 25th Jul '07, 9:14am Server changes usually mean more RAM and faster CPUs. Sometimes the connection standards get a boost too. It would be nice to have the server on a 1000BaseFX connection, but I don't know how much that would cost.
Just glad things are back online now. :D :rolling:
The Magister Wed, 25th Jul '07, 10:58am Err... I hate to ruin the mode but i keep geting Runtime errors. Line 1. Syntax error. Is it the server or just me?
Edit: Only appears on the main page of the Forums
Taluntain Wed, 25th Jul '07, 11:41am The Magister, I see what you mean - the error only shows in IE, that's why I haven't noticed it before. But it's just a browser notice, so it shouldn't be problematic in fixing.
As for the server improvements, we now have a dual Xeon server (about twice as much CPU power as before) and a SCSI hard drive. A lot more bandwidth too, but we've had way more than enough before too. The primary reason for the server move was to get more CPU power and a server that can be further upgraded when/if the need arises (the previous one was maxed out on all the upgrades). The fact that a good offer for it has been presented to me out of the blue, and that I had to take it or leave it on the spot, meant that there was much less preparation for this move done than normally, otherwise I'd have posted notices about it sooner...
Kitrax Mon, 30th Jul '07, 12:05pm So....the board upgrade is next....right? :p :rolling:
Taluntain Mon, 30th Jul '07, 1:00pm Actually, yes. The board switch is on the schedule for August.
Kitrax Mon, 13th Aug '07, 12:31pm Really?!?! No more old UBB.classic 6.7.1?
Has the time of the prophecies from the book of Tal finally come?
/me gets a chill down his spine
August is already half over... Armageddon is quickly approaching. :rolling:
