View Full Version : first time through...good, neutral or evil?
Late-Night Thinker Wed, 4th Jun '03, 3:58am I think I am going to play a good party...
Probably...
Paladin
Fighter
Cleric
Rogue
Mage
...then try to pick up a bard, monk, and another fighter as npc's.
Faragon Wed, 4th Jun '03, 7:03am Well, as with any CRPG, I will first go through it with a good aligned party, which will hold the usual setup, just as you described. Most people will probably.
Mollusken Wed, 4th Jun '03, 11:43am Good alligned, like always. I've never played anything else.
Apeman Wed, 4th Jun '03, 1:34pm Always good, but this time without pallies who I lately view as 'too good to be true'
Ameorn Wed, 4th Jun '03, 2:45pm Good of course... But one of these days i really have to try evil, never played that before
Quicksylver Wed, 4th Jun '03, 3:22pm Yep, I'll play a good-aligned party as well. Butt-kicking for goodness and all that...
Shura Thu, 5th Jun '03, 12:49pm Neutral and self-serving with evil tendencies...
Probably a solo fighter will do.
Sephiroth Thu, 5th Jun '03, 1:38pm I will try it as a goodie at first, but sure I will play the other agliments, too.
Ofelix Sat, 7th Jun '03, 3:48pm Probably Good, But I'll sure play Evil! That's must be realy fun to actualy revive the Temple and gain control of it
Ferrick Sat, 7th Jun '03, 6:29pm Cool topic. I'll play good with maybe a neutral here or there. I can never play evil. I feel like I have to take a bath every time I do!
Master of Nuhn Sat, 7th Jun '03, 6:48pm I usually play as a Morninglord. This time it will be something similar, if possible. A cleric of Pelor, perhaps?
For you guys not that familiar with D&D: Good aligned, preferably NG.
Btw: Each time I play an evil character, my NPCs leave my party because my reputation is too good.
'I just - can't - do - it!'
Slackertoast Sun, 8th Jun '03, 11:13am Unfortunately I won't be brave enough to play anything but good the first time around. It always seems easier that way. I wonder when someone will make a game that is based on you being evil instead of good. Yeah, yeah, I know alot of games give options to be evil/neutral but none that I can think of at 4:58am are built around that premise of an evil character with options to be good/neutral. Instead of starting out in Baldurs Gate and such maybe they could start in a Drow City. Oops sorry I rambled..
Mesmero Sun, 8th Jun '03, 11:14am I never play one type of alignment. I usually have a good/neutral party, and I'm not planning to play this game with a different kind of party.
Ameorn Sun, 8th Jun '03, 8:27pm @Silverblade: I think it said in the interview that even neutral characters will leave your party if your too good. It didn't say so outright, but i came to that conclusion when reading it. Am i right or am i just floating in another Galaxy?? :D
Foradasthar Mon, 9th Jun '03, 6:44am I always start with a good character. After that I do chaotic good (which for some of my friends equals evil but hey, it's their loss). After that either evil or neutral, and after that whichever I didn't play last.
Though if the game is good enough, I will get attached to some characters on my first run. So it usually requires months or even a year before I can (or rather, will) act as an evil character towards the "friends" of my previous life. I have a strong imagination, and it means that I am able to immerse myself within a good story so well that turning against people I cared for in there, make me feel as I might risk doing that in real life as well.

Shura Wed, 11th Jun '03, 2:51pm Bah, I'm surrounded by goody-two shoes!
My first time through BG was as a chaotic neutral fighter who was an ultimate bastard (Killed Ajantis, Minsc, Dynaheir and Edwin for good measure, Jaheira, Khalid and Quayle). Still, I beat down Sarevok's ass. Guess he wasn't evil enough.
Neutral Evil for my first main character in TOEE. Probably fighter as well.
The Kilted Crusader Wed, 11th Jun '03, 3:24pm Shura, your a mean bastard! :p
I'll probably create Morningstar (have a look at Dawn In Shadow in CS), but I haven't decided on an allignment for him yet so I'll close my eyes and move the mouse a bit and use whichever it comes up as :D .
Sir Belisarius Fri, 13th Jun '03, 3:51pm I usually have varying alignments in my party...I rarely have evil ones though.
Pally - LG
Rogue - CN
Fighter - CN
Cleric - NG
Mage - CG
Arutha Sat, 14th Jun '03, 3:17am Hum... I wonder how a pally could stand being partied with CN chars.
Even LE types are preferable. At least they can agree on fighting Chaotic forces.
Short of CE, CN has to be the most distasteful alignment for a pally to be partied with...
Harkle Sat, 14th Jun '03, 10:38am I've read something about party alignment, which restricts alignments of party members (e.g. in lawful neutral party can only include lawful or true neutral characters), but I'm not sure that I remember correctly.
My first party will be quite similar like Sir Bel's and Late Night Thinker's: paladin, cleric, wizard, rogue and ranger.
8people Sat, 14th Jun '03, 12:37pm Why do you guys find it so hrad to play Evil?
I'll probably create my usual 8 parties. Probably recreate the People I made from IWD into it. From IWD, to IWD2 to G:tToEE
It should be cool. 2 evil parties, 3 good parties, 2 neutral and one Neutral/Good mostly druidic party.
Mithrandir Sun, 22nd Jun '03, 7:30pm I'll create a party with purly CE. Probally a Mage and Fighter and then pick up a rouge and another fighter as NPCs.
Volsung Mon, 23rd Jun '03, 8:21am Two good: Paladin and Cleric
Two neutral: Sorcerer and Wizard
Two evil: Fighter and Rogue
Ofelix Mon, 23rd Jun '03, 9:17pm haaaa, I'll play neutral for sure, being tooo good is boring and evil well is evil, I'll also play a party that are mainly "tree hugger"
Ranger
Cleric of Obad-hai
Druid (duh)
Wizards well it's not a tree hugger but still useful
Druid/bard indeed weird but I would really like to create a "Celtic" character a sort of bagpipe player whose travel has given him druidic power...
Greenlion420 Tue, 24th Jun '03, 11:02pm i almost always choose neutral. I (personally) can't be classified as good or evil. So my choice is obvious.
Aikanaro Sat, 28th Jun '03, 11:28am Ah, I can't decide. Either CG, TN, or NE. Probably chaotic good, as I've started off with in every other CRPG. But I have taken a liking to neutral evil. If something gets in your way, kill it
Silwyth, Chosen of Shar Mon, 14th Jul '03, 7:39pm Why does everyone hate evil characters so much? Personally I think evil characters are the best and I've only played as a good character once, in the very first Baldur's Gate. So it goes without saying, evil.
Sethmage Tue, 15th Jul '03, 5:19pm Can’t wait for release, I read almost everything what was published (on-line or magazines). First time I always go as good guy (preferably CG) so it won’t be different this time, however I will start with all aliments possible just to see the starting vignettes. With 60 ending possibilities this game will keep me on playing for very long time.
BTW Alexander you CAN NOT have paladin and evil characters in the same party.
kaasper Wed, 16th Jul '03, 3:12pm I usually like to play my characters around the neutral zone therefore allowing me to draw from bith good and evil.
RangerFox Tue, 22nd Jul '03, 11:17pm The reason people don't play evil is because video game RPGs make things harder on evil alignments. Lesser rewards and weaker NPCs for your party mostly.
I'll probably start a true neutral party with a fighter, monk, rogue or bard, cleric, and sorcerer and go from there.
Demogorog Wed, 23rd Jul '03, 4:22pm Good - as always when I plays threw a CRPG for the first time.
Looking forward to play in Iron Man-mode. =D
rastilin Wed, 23rd Jul '03, 4:45pm The reason people don't play evil is because video game RPGs make things harder on evil alignments. Lesser rewards and weaker NPCs for your party mostly. I disagree, most RPG's make things easier for evil parties, not only do they get more stuff but they also have an easier time with quests.
As for me, good.
