I am playing a paladin & will soon come to ch.4. I know there will be a sequence where Irenicus will cause me to lose a 1 to one of the traits. I'm obviously keeping the fighter stats of constitution, strength & dexterity and the paladin stat of charisma. I was thinking keeping intelligence in order to be of less risk to the mind flayers. That leaves wisdom, which I thought would be okay since the level would not affect the amount of spells a paladin can have. However, the posts on this board are now suggesting that wisdom affects saving throws and resistance to control fr foes. Suggestions on the characteristic to best give up??

intelligence, because! if you get caught by mindflayers in melee, they will kick your arse anyhow, seriously

I agree. Load up on potions of genius for the MF's, if you have to... also, they're chicken s**t little buggers, who tend to go yellow (morale failure) after a single decent backstab.

Wisdom only affects your mindsavings.

Charisma is expendable. You've got a high one with your pallie anyway, so you can afford loosing a point in that.

Charisma can't be sacrificed.

Choose another one.

Charisma, there's always the ring you find during Kalah's quest;)...

Trouble hearing? Charisma can't be sacrificed. You must choose intelligence, constitution, dexterity or wisdom.

Doh! of course Charisma can't be sacrificed. Thanx for the nit.

Then I'd most certainly go with intelligence with the Paladin. You only rarely encounter MindFlayers, and when you do, there's always other ways to kill them.

Well, seems to me that Wis doesn't affect your savingthrows...I did a lil test as you can read right here: http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/004966.html

Still, IMO, Paladins are wise people and I would choose for the small Intelligence-'discount'.

Pardon me for asking but is his intelligence already 9? if you move it from 9 to 8, I would rather go for wisdom. Why you say? Because at 9 intelligence you can cast cleric scrolls.

Thats right. If you get below 8 inteligence you cannot cast spells from scrolls. The reason I know this is because I was in spellhold with my paladin and sacrifced an inteligence point. This caused me to become to stupid to cast spells from scrolls.

The followup: I went through Spellhold & the Irenicus vision. My Paladin's wisdom was 19 & Intelligence was 9. I sacrificed wisdom. The result was that  I lost some Paladin gifts of call upon holy might & slow poison. What in the world does a party do w/ 15 or so ID' evils anyway?? :rolling:

Those were not Paladin gifts but BhaalPowers. Everyone loses them after the Spellhold dream regardless the class.

That's neat. I did not know that the other classes even had them! (anyway onto my kiddoes)
