Just curious - Does anyone know how you are supposed to know what order to step on the runes in the Obsidian Sphere room to open that door? Sylvus' walkthrough gives the correct order, but no reason... I've noticed that the symbols match with the symbols along both sides of the entrance room in the Harper Hold but by the time I saw them there, the Planar Sphere was long conquered... I didn't ever notice anything in the Planar Sphere that indicated the order though. Was I just blind?

I would actually like to know this as well.. when I had to solve this, I basically did it by trial-and-error, which is not a very heroic way to go about things... but I found no references to this puzzle, so just took the solution any way I could get it.

I based my own "findings" on the spinning trails around the obsidian sphere. The top trail I noticed went around the sphere in a top-bottom motion while the trail under that spun in a right to left direction.
I took a guess and started at the TOP of the sphere, the second one I walked on was the BOTTOM (as per the trail was showing me) and then went right to left for the last two runes on the floor.
Whether or not this is the answer to this puzzle I do not know.

Well, I hope Sylvus' findings are correct... though it doesn't seem definitive. I would hate to think that this was a trial-and-error puzzle. I was always amazed on the IWD board that people were recommending protection from lightning and trial-and-error to solve the Dwarven Staircase puzzle...

I thought it looked kinda like a map compass, so I did the North, South, East, West thing.
