View Full Version : Cheats
Sage Ravenclaw Mon, 29th Mar '04, 2:49am Hey guys,
I just wanted to know if any of you have tried the
cheats for this game? There is a money cheat that can
be downloaded. I tried it once and it worked with the
original version, but i can't get it to work with the
patch.

ejsmith Mon, 29th Mar '04, 5:14am I messed around with the money editor *once*. It was right next to worthless, but I don't remember exactly why. I'd guess it just didn't work for me.
Anyways, get a hex editor. And download the character editor. Between those two, there's right next to nothing that you cannot do.
Load your people up with 40 feats at level 1?
Yes.
Give yourself 100,000 platinum, 100,000 gold, 100,000 silver, 100,000 copper?
Yes.
(actually, I had issues with mine when I was forging +3 equipment, and the copper jumped up to 8 million)
Give yourself 5,000,000 experience points?
Yes.
(but it tends to reset itself to 50k when one of your NPC's level up)
1. Get a hex editor to edit your gold and experience points.
2. Use the character editor at the very start of the game to give yourself the feats and stats/hit points that you want. I go with 32's for stats, and 250 for starting hit points. Add feats until you get the "no more than 64 feats allowed" notification, and then cut one or two feats. DO NOT TOUCH YOUR SKILLS. It'll crash the game out on you for some reason, and you'll have to go through making your characters all over again.
Hope this helps. :)
Foradasthar Mon, 29th Mar '04, 3:43pm The one I used was the little trick where you start making a new character, and switch to "point buy". There set the score you want on any stat, then drag that number to the right side of the stat and drop it there. Return to "roll" screen and the number will be there. Then jump back to "point buy" and you'll have full 30 points again to use on getting another stat.
Repeat this on all 6 stats and you can have the sort of character you want. Wether you want to get all 18's, or just design your own characters without the hindrance of being unable to substract and add points between different stats, is your own choice.
Sage Ravenclaw Mon, 29th Mar '04, 11:53pm Thank you EJ and Foradasthar,
I do have an editor that will let me set my stats,
but I don't have enough money to have the potions or
scrolls I found identified. My party members are looting me blind! Even with the patch that is supposed to keep them from it!
Anyway, I'll try to find the one that you mentioned.
The dementia money trainer is the one that won't work.

ejsmith Tue, 30th Mar '04, 7:45am Sage, setting your money with a hex editor is -the- easist cheat. Way easier than anything else, simply because you can do a search for the entire money string, and have 0.00% chance of getting the wrong string (and corrupting your game). Also, if the Vicks/Wedge mod isn't curing your NPC looting issue, you don't have the patch installed correctly. It should completely wipe out NPC looting. With Elmo and the prostitutes and the air elemental node guy, and everyone else in between. No one should be looting a single thing; however, they still sell stuff when you talk to a shopkeeper, and keep the money. That really annoys me, as I gave them those healing potions for a reason. :)
You might want to install the Vicks/Wedge patch.
Mr. Clean Sat, 3rd Apr '04, 12:24am I have a couple of characters I edited to make them strong enough to go solo through the game. If anyone would like to use them rather than go through the trouble of creating your own characters, let me know and I will send them to you.
One is a Chaotic Good Cleric of Pelor; the other is a Chaotic Good Wizard. I can also give you more details about their stats or how I created them if anyone is interested.
BTW, I used the editor off this site and was able to edit all of their stats, skills, and feats.
Sage Ravenclaw Thu, 8th Apr '04, 5:23pm Thanks again for the suggestions!
I did try the patch and it seems to work. I tried the hex editor but it didn't work for me. It could never find the strings I was looking for (and I followed the directions to the letter.) Anyway the only thing I don't like about the vicks & wedge is the fact that when I returned to the towns to sell all the goodies I got, my npc's weren't carrying the things I gave them. But I was able to collect some money to buy potions I really needed.

DrowLicious Fri, 9th Apr '04, 8:26am Hey Sage. In my opinion the best way to modify or cheat the game is with the TFC trainer supplied by SP. You can pump your stats, feats and etc. (be reasonable and dont crash the game by making them "ultra" and picking one without having it's prereq. You can even change height and weight. Then use hex to give you tons o' funds for crafting and such. I tell you i never hexed anything before in my life! I downloaded a hex program, followed the instructions on the link provided by SP, used the base converter, and searched the strings. you probably made a mistake in the somewhat tedious task for converting your money values to hex and searching for them. i did it like 5 times and thought 'i cant do it' but i tried it again going all the way back..it worked i found the string. Try it again. Its a pain, but it works. happy gaming :bang:
Sage Ravenclaw Mon, 12th Apr '04, 3:14pm Thanks Naug,
I used the TFC editor you mentioned and it worked great. I guess I need to try the Hex editor from SP. The one I have is too hard for a novice like myself. Never tried to hex anything before! Can you use a hex editor on any game? There are other games I love to play and wouldn't have to use god if I had money to buy potions & scrolls!
Lordstyle Tue, 13th Apr '04, 7:19pm I must be blind as a bat.
I could not find this TFC or Hex Editor by SP. Who is SP and where can I find their editor? I didn't see any such editor in the section of Editors and what not listed on the Sorcerer's Net section for TOEE.
Again, sorry if I seem blind as a bat.
david w Tue, 13th Apr '04, 8:50pm Who is SPAh, sometimes you've just got to laugh.
You're posting on a Sorcerer's Place forum and you're asking what SP stands for? Take a guess. ;)
The hex editor is found on this page: http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/ToEE/index_editors.htm
Funnily enough, it's called hex editing. :D
ekzos893 Mon, 26th Apr '04, 7:03am 1) i've tried the tc editor, but it always crash, then i've to delete the character.
2) Before i install the patch (original and co8) i can hex edit it, but after i patch it i can only edit the stat only, i can't find the exp and money location, can someone guide me?
thanks.
ejsmith Tue, 27th Apr '04, 1:24am I had the tc editor crashing on me when I used to edit skills. Do Not Edit Skills. As your character levels up, you'll addon skills. If you're worried about a particular skill, just give yourself 5000xp and put them in on your levelup.
Stats. Feats. You can loadup on feats, but try not to duplicate your characters "innate" feats, since they count against your 64 max. So, on a warrior, don't bother with the armour feats; they are already there, even though they aren't listed.
Sage Ravenclaw Fri, 14th May '04, 3:19pm Hey Guys,
Just checking in! I finally got my game hexed the way I wanted it and what happens? My stupid hard drive dies! Good thing I was running 4 of them. I had to wind up putting my games on c:\ instead of one just for games. It's getting pretty full and I'll have to get another one soon.
Anyway, I got a new hex editor <Hackman>. Maybe it will work (haven't tried it yet).
Back to the proverbial drawing board for me!
DrowLicious Fri, 14th May '04, 10:05pm Huh...... I did not have the crashing occur. And i do have Co8 and the patch installed. The thing i notice in fiddling with ToEE is if you are starting a new game with new characters it's best to uninstall the patches, make your characters in the new game, save 'em, edit the stuff you want to edit, reinstall patches, play game. If you don't want to uninstall the patches manually, you can uninstall the game, re-install it. Make characters. save em'. Most of the little do-dads in the 'Editors' section of SP (bwaah) work only if it's unpatched. Edit. check your characters. Install patches. Play game. Cross fingers....
Merlin333 Thu, 3rd Jun '04, 3:58pm There is an easy way to make BIG money fast in TOEE.
You'll need a thief or a rouge with good slight of hand skills for this to work properly.
From the world map menu, select Hommett East.
Go inside the tower, have your rouge/thief stand next to Burne.
Press F12 (Quick Save)
1. Now, using the radial menu on your rouge/thief, select slight of hand, then click on Burne.
2. It may take you a few trys, but eventually your picking of his pocket will be successful. If at any time your rouge/thief is discovered (battle starts), hit F9 (Quick Load) and try again.
3. The first time you're successful, you'll get 14 blue gems, worth over $5,700 gold pieces.
4. Now just click on Burne normally with your rouge/thief and get into the dialoge for bartering. Sell your recently acquired gems back to Burne. They return to his inventory. Once you have a successful sale, hit F12 again and repeat steps 1-4.
You can do this as many times as you want. I've got over 100k in just a short session.
david w Tue, 8th Jun '04, 11:59pm Wouldn't it be easier just to use a character editor to give yourself the gold?
Merlin333 Thu, 17th Jun '04, 4:47pm In game cheats:
Open the command console by hitting a shift ~ (tilde).
Right now the only working cheat levels up your entire party. In the console enter:
levelup
Look for others and post what you find here!
