View Full Version : The Two Towers Protest
Sir Dargorn Sun, 5th Jan '03, 3:47pm Please read this:
http://www.twotowersprotest.org/index.html
"We believe that Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema's actions are in fact hate speech. The movie is intentionally being named The Two Towers in order to capitalize on the tragedy of September 11."
Can you believce the stupidity of this site? Yes the Trade centre events were tragic but this just takes sensitivity to another level. And before you ask, this really is real. Thankyou Uluk for showing me this.
Oh and btw here is the parody site:
http://www.theofficersclub.com/rotkpo/
Please give opinions.
Uluk the Armripper Sun, 5th Jan '03, 4:03pm Yep. However, it's entirely possible that the first one is a fake too (hardly)...
Anyways I personally didn't even connect the two events with each other until I saw those two links. Like I said to Sir Dargorn in #sorcerers any reasonable people realize that quote right there is just pure bs.
Oaz Sun, 5th Jan '03, 4:25pm Yay. More opinions to mock and bash around.
Can't we just leave these people alone? They're not going to make a difference in delaying The Two Towers, and they're all going to simply protest about it - and few will listen. But no need to mock them about it. Sheesh.
Sir Dargorn Sun, 5th Jan '03, 4:48pm Actually this is where you may be wrong. After reading over some petitions at petition online.com i have discovered that there are a great deal of signitures, not just to change the title but ban the film entirely, there is even a petition to totally ban the book, which also has a surprising amount of support.
Vince Clortho Sun, 5th Jan '03, 5:26pm What idiots. That parody site was great, though. I'll sign a petition regarding the utter inanity of the original site. I'll be the first on the list! INANE. Sincerely, RSH/VC
Upidstay Sun, 5th Jan '03, 5:33pm Unfortunately, there is never a shortage of zealots in the world. Apparently the people who started the petitions have never read the book or seen the movie, or simply missed the message of hope. Nor did they see the message of diverse peoples overcoming their natural distrust and animosity towards each other in order to fight evil.
Wow!! That was good. Somebody get me a soap box quick!!!
Taluntain Sun, 5th Jan '03, 5:49pm *Sigh*
You know what the worst thing is? That site gets more hits on the front page than SP does. And they have a banner on every page and a popup. So not only are they showing the whole world their idiocy, they're cashing in on it very well, with a whole of 5 pages of short clips of text. In short, their domain name alone brings them so many hits in search engines they must make a minimum of $200 bucks a month just with advertising. So take my advice, don't even load that site. The only thing you need to know about it is the clip Sir Dargorn posted. It is essentially, the whole content of that site.
They don't deserve your attention, truly. Nor to make money off of the tragedy of 9/11, or by abusing Tolkien's work.

chevalier Sun, 5th Jan '03, 6:35pm I bow to your wisdom, Taluntain.
I believe the guys deserve a trial as well, not only public acknowledgment of their idiocy. 'Intentionally named' after a book the movie is based on, I believe?
In TeamBG forum a man told me Tolkien has recently been criticised for not including *certain things* in his book. Certain things comprise homosexual relations among others.
Darth_Moorezo Sun, 5th Jan '03, 7:19pm I am outraged at what the people above are doing not only have they riddiculed a great film but they also seem to think that the writers gave the film the name "the two towers" because of 9/11 when the books where writen way before 9/11.
also (to the authors of the offending site) YOU ARE SCUM.... I VERRY MUCH DOUBT THAT YOU HAVE SPENT A GREAT DEAL OF YOUR POINTLESS LIFE WRITING A BOOK AS TOKIN DID, SO THAT PEOPLE CAN GET SOME ENJOYMENT FROM READING IT...I SUGGEST YOU TRY READING IT JUST TO SEE HOW LONG IT TAKES THEN WHEN YOUR DONE THINK ABOUT THE FACT THAT IT TOOK TEN TIMES ASLONG TO WRITE, AND AFTER TOLKIN DID ALL OF THAT A SCUM BAG LIKE YOU COMES ALONG AND MAKE A SILLY FUSS....IN FACT I BELEVE THAT IF ANYONE IS BEING INSENSITIVE ABOUT 9/11 IT'S YOU
Ofelix Sun, 5th Jan '03, 7:28pm What Next they will make a petition too Bane the word Tower in the dictionnary?!, indeed the eleven september was tragic, but pull yourself! The two TOWER isn't in same World, and it's was writing in the 30s-40s WAY before the 9/11 happen... What will you want to call the movie?! The "Two Big building that look like a tower but isn't" Now that PATHETIC... :bang: :bang:
Taluntain your word are of great wisdom... :thumb:

chevalier Sun, 5th Jan '03, 7:30pm Again my support. They are pervishly making money on the feelings they falsely claim to defend.
Sir Belisarius Sun, 5th Jan '03, 7:48pm  I think people should stop having babies. Because some of those babies may grow up to be the next Hitler or Bin Laden. I think the world would be a much safer place without people.
Tal - can you please add a page to the site that promotes the cessation of procreation in the world. I think everyone agrees we'd be a lot better off. Thanks in advance!
Vermillion Sun, 5th Jan '03, 8:27pm I'd already heard of stuff like that going last year. My first reaction was laughter thinking it was indeed a joke. When I finally got shown it wasn't I thought how stupid can people be?
Lets ban Shakespears work because there was peadophilia in it, let's bad William Golding's novels because it encourages children to kill each other. Let's just either ignore these idiots, or start a counter petition about this and show the world their ignorance and shame these illiterate, ignorant, holier than thou political correctness shoving down throats retarded monkeys. :  :flaming:
As I'm not actually going to 'grace' that idiotic site with a hit from me, anyone happen to notice a contact email address for proper correspondance with them? I promise not to use big words ;)
(Edit:) Oh, BTW, does this mean my mum, being a great Elvis fan could start a campaign to get the thrid film banned? ;) :p

Yerril Sun, 5th Jan '03, 9:32pm You crazy-ass tower-banning dudes:
It happened. It may have been tragic, but trying in vain to ignore it is just pathetic. History is there to be learned from, not ignored.
Kam Sun, 5th Jan '03, 10:29pm Dear lord, can humanity get any stupider? This pathetic attempt to cash in on such a tragedy literally sickens me to my stomach. Although the parody was very well done. :)

Rastor Mon, 6th Jan '03, 12:48am Sir Belisarius, your humorous post hits right on. If we started banning everything like these fools want to do, why not simply ban talking, because terrorists talk to each other.
Those guys are simply a bunch of fools attempting to make a quick buck with an idiotic protest.
Aikanaro Mon, 6th Jan '03, 12:48pm These people are just sad, though the parody was interesting :rolling:
Apeman Mon, 6th Jan '03, 1:56pm Geeze it's not like they are called the twintowers in the movie, now if there were like middle earth zeppelin aircrafts crashing in the towers both at the same time (o.k. a little time in between) and with the fellowship abandoning their quest (well sauron was in that tower so he is dead) to hunt down Osmeagola bin Gollum in the caverns of moria. Now if that would have happened in the movie they would have a point.
It didn't BTW  :D
chevalier Mon, 6th Jan '03, 3:31pm Why not ban the Holy Bible then? God negotiates with Satan, brother kills brother, references to sexual aspect of love are also present. Drinking wine is shown as good as well as using other fruits of life... Women are being discriminated many a time, homosexual intercourse is condemned as well as other perversies...
But let's come back to towers. Two like two but I wonder when someone will start picking at me about the nick.
Taluntain Mon, 6th Jan '03, 4:18pm Don't try to mail them unless you have a separate account for spam on Hotmail or something similar. I'm sure they're selling out valid mail accounts to spammers whenever they get any "fan" mail.
Amon-Ra Mon, 6th Jan '03, 6:17pm From what I've heard of this- someone else actually took it to court, and not only did they not win their case, but the judge [according to my sources] is quoted to having called them "blithering idiots" and threw the case out and demanded that they pay restitution for tarnishing the movie's name, plus court fees.
I've heard this from several people, I was just wondering if anyone had any other info on this.
Amon-Ra
Eze Mon, 6th Jan '03, 8:06pm They are blithering idiots.
Aspen Darkfire Mon, 6th Jan '03, 11:15pm You would have thought natural selection would have picked these people off by now...
If we follow their logic (in the loosest sense of the word) then the US better look out. Prince Charles will soon rule the world!! :D
Vermillion Tue, 7th Jan '03, 6:09pm Make a seperate spam collecting account? OK by me just give their mail address so I can test their intelligence ;)
I'd love to hear their response to my email, it's sitting there all prepped and ready ;)
Master of Nuhn Tue, 7th Jan '03, 7:17pm I think they should be consequent and ban the words Center, Trade and World as well. :grr:
Or maybe we should sue New York for stealing John Ronald Reuel's idea.
If we start to do such things, then maybe they understand their complaints make no sense. But they are probably too stupid for that.
SleepleSS Tue, 7th Jan '03, 8:04pm I wish all those bastards who are complaining where the once that get killed in those towers.
No seriously may it was tragic what happened, but that doesn't mean the whole world has to change just because America had a bad day! I'm getting sick and tired about the way america thinks they are the best country in the world, I wish the put Bush head on a stick and gave the country back to the natives they have sense.
And I know there are lots of americans that are OK I don't mean to offend them. I just get sick of the attitude of the country that's all.
reepnorp Tue, 7th Jan '03, 9:14pm Somebody start a petition to stop them. Who cares! Unless Tolkien was a prophet, these people should be taken out and shot.
chevalier Wed, 8th Jan '03, 12:20am Anyone considered employing a brute force prog & a mail client to show the guys how me love them?
Ironbeard Wed, 8th Jan '03, 12:38am I wonder, was there a similar movement back in 1912 against that book that was written before Titanic and had a lot of similarities to the actual disaster - I think it was called "Wreck of the Titan" or something.
Of course, on a (sort of) related subject I've had Tom Clancy's "Executive Orders" for a long time and haven't read it. I was intending to start around September 2001 and just didn't feel comfortable reading that for entertainment after *it* happened. (The book begins with an airliner crashing into the Capitol Building and wiping out most of the US government, for those who aren't aware). I wonder if there was any petition against that book being sold - I did see copies rather prominently on display in an airport bookshop - of all places - last summer, though.
DarkGoddess Wed, 8th Jan '03, 4:18am How idiotic can people be? This is pure, unadulturated stupidity. I mean, come on! It's a freaking book! A book that was written decades ago! A book that has nothing at all to do with what happened on 9-11. It was sad, yes, we know, we know. Just move on. Good God in heaven, why do you create people to be so dumb, then create even more stupid, sheep-like people to follow them? It boggles the mind.
Foradasthar Wed, 8th Jan '03, 10:54am There are always those who see a movie where the fifth person dying is black, as an extreme racistic insult and hateshow. Just as there are always those who think that the right solution for a murder based on a football match would be to illegalize football world wide. People, who think that africans who eat insects for food are barbaric lower-species and are better off for everyone if just slaughtered away. OR... well I can stop it here I guess. For surely you've gotten my point by now.
With 6 billion people living on this planet, there's no doubt as to wether we do or do not have those banded-together individuals who are out to get attention through any means possible and have no consideration for others while doing so. And of course the misguided, confused and mentally disabled (by disabled I do not mean stupid, though surely they are easily manipulated to such actions.. by disabled, in this concept, I mean those who've not had a healthy growth environment or have suffered from dramatic or otherwise damaging incidents resulting to lessened ability to see and evaluate things as they really are) individuals also get highlighted in a world such as this. Often within less than favorable circumstances.
Nothing you can do about it, except laugh or pity. They have more power than many can imagine, I'm sure. But in the end, it's good that some extremists are keeping things in check, even though they might be over-exaggarating things. It keeps the balance up as they say.
Mortensen Wed, 8th Jan '03, 1:28pm What a bunch of idiots. Yet another publicity stunt. Did anyone point out that the book was written years upon years ago? Hey, let's ban everything!!
Morgoth Wed, 8th Jan '03, 3:39pm A book that has nothing at all to do with what happened on 9-11. The arabic version of the flying manual :D
Jesper898 Fri, 10th Jan '03, 8:24pm Do you people seriously think you'll be successful?
We most certainly do. Several of our members were already successful at making 20th Century Fox delay the movie "Phone Booth" due to the Maryland sniper attacks.
Good job :thumb:
Well considering i have watched the movie twice you guys did a great job, come again morons :p
EDIT: I emailed them, here is what i wrote:Hello, i just looked at your terrific site *snicker*
The book was written decades before 11th Sep, yes it was very tragic but c'mon you guys, get a grip man!
I dont know if this site is a is a joke but as far as im concerned you are all more insensitive than Peter Jackson ( who is a genious IMHO) who have created this great movie and some morons ( *cough* you) have to link it to 11th september.
allow me to quote you:
Do you people seriously think you'll be successful?
We most certainly do. Several of our members were already successful at making 20th Century Fox delay the movie "Phone Booth" due to the Maryland sniper attacks.
I have now watched the movie twice and it keeps getting better, good job boneheads.
i am now eagerly awaiting their reply:P

Vermillion Fri, 10th Jan '03, 10:01pm Jesper any chance of their email addy, I could have so much fun with them
Jesper898 Sat, 11th Jan '03, 3:20pm sure thing Vermillion twotowersprotest@twotowersprotest.org
Jorgon Wed, 15th Jan '03, 2:37am Upon further reading, I laughed most heartily. The book was written how many years ago? And second of all, the site could be a parody meant to evoke a reaction from you over-reactionists at sorcerers place. I would do that if I had no life and lots of time and waited a long time for my joke to come to fruition. Alas, what else have I to say? Merry belated orthodox christmas.?
Teensabre Thu, 16th Jan '03, 5:11pm Well, it is a very delicate subject for the Americans, understanderably; however the book was written ages before 9:11, so I don't really think there is any need for the protest.
