"Amin declared he had started a Save Britain Fund with 10,000 Ugandan Shillings (not as much as it sounds). A month later he declared the response from ordinary folk had been overwhelming.

Amin said Ugandans were willing to send food aid to Britain, even though this was not actually needed.

He excitedly informed Whitehall: "Today, 21 January 1974, the people of Kigezi District donated one lorry load of vegetables and wheat. "

"Amin is also known for allegedly sending the then US President, Richard Nixon, a "get well soon" card just after the Watergate scandal, and telling the then Israeli Prime Minister, Golda Meir, to "pack her knickers"." "This serious and regrettable development calls for Britain's best and sincere friends to come to her assistance. Consequently, I avail my good offices at the disposal of the opposing sides in Northern Ireland," said the dictator. I am sure he would have had an interesting resolution for N.I!

The guy was either nuts or just had a very very sick sense of humour...and was nuts. I can imagine how he would have thought a nice little bloodbath was all the crisis in Northern Ireland needed.
