Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... Sorry to doze off there. To be honest, I was just finding all the tips, questions, and power-gaming posts on this board a bit dull. What we need is more role playing posts! That is to say, who gives a damn where you can find Celestial Glory?! Tell me about your party! What's their strengths, weaknesses, bizarre proclivities, etc.? Sylvus has been great on this point. Let's follow his lead!
Okay, I'll start. My PC is a female drow Kensai (cheats to give her magic resistance, used Viconia's portriat), Anais. In the tradition of that "D" guy, and, raised under the tutaledge of Gorion, she has renounced her evilness and has aligned herself with goodness. Her long friendship with Imoen has formed between them a "special" bond. Upon Imoen's capture, Anais' solitary goal had been her safe rescue from the Cowled Wizards. Sure, she missed out on some side quests...but that's for another game.
Anais and Imoen share the love that dare not speak its name (especially in Faerun!). Mazzy doesn't approve but is good to mind her own business. Keldorn is such a naive and patronizing prick that he thinks every time we room together in an inn, we're having an innocent little slumber party. Paladins...they're the Ned Flanderses of the Forgotten Realms. Jahiera thinks its fab--you know, "balance" and all that druid ****. And Aerie is so busy feeling guilty over her erotic fantasies about Keldorn not to notice the suspicious sounds coming from next door. Which is a drag because Keldorn actually has a guilty fetish for Mazzy, though he'd never admit to it. Miscegenation is a venal sin! Same problem with Aerie. Imoen is the right race but drives on the wrong side of the street. (I guess she was trying to hint on something when she kept calling me a "queer fellow"--even though I was a woman--all through BG!) Poor Keldorn. All that pent-up energy has to find it's way out somehow...which is what makes him such a badass in combat.
There are some rules under this mode of play:
1. Cool magic items are to be distributed evenly among party members, with each item going to the player for whom it's most appropriate. None of that "best equipment goes to PC first" ********.
2. When you let a party member go, they get to keep their stuff. No stripping them down first. If you're playing an evil party, I can see killing them for it...but don't just take their equipment then tell them to take a hike. Nobody would REALLY do that.
3. Take a vacation! A few nights in the royal suite of the most luxurious inn in Athkatla (and a few days drunk on evermead) are the least you should expect after bagging a tough quest. And if Jahiera *****es about wasting time, tell her to go shape change into a piss pot.
What I mean to say by all this rambling is that BGII (and BG and IWD and Torment) are *role-playing games*. You're not playing Diablo. You're not playing Doom. And just like in a good flick, I'd rather have a well-rounded character with flaws than a troupe of little automotons with ideally distributed points. If Keldorn, Mazzy, and Jahiera have less than ideal strength of fighters, so damn what! That just makes them more real for me.
My final party decided on, we're off to see the wizard...
Anais (female drow Kensai, LG), Keldorn, Mazzy, Jahiera, Imoen, Aerie
Now, it's your turn. Tell me about your group, and if you mention any stats, Mazzy will ace your ass. ;)
