Yes. Bonus points for naming two nordic death metal bands who have covered it. :p

BOC
Tue, 2nd Mar '04, 9:50pm
I don't know them because I don't like death metal but as a wild guess I would say At The Gates. IIRC they are the ones who butchered Manowar's "Blood of my enemies", so perhaps they did the same with Iron Maiden as well. :D

Let's continue with a classic:

Don’t come running to me,
I know I’ve done all I can
A hard loving woman like you
Just makes a hard loving man

Thin Lizzy - Out in the Fields

Best quote I ever heard from Thin Lizzy was:
"What does it feel like to be black and Irish?"
"Like a pint of Guiness."

Anyway, new quote:

Crack of dawn, all is gone except the will to be
Now they will see what will be, blinded eyes to see

BOC
Thu, 4th Mar '04, 8:09am
Actually "Out in the fields" is a Gary Moore's song, but many people think that it belongs to Thin Lizzy because Lynnot was one of the composers and had done the lead vocals of the song. Anyway nevermind.
As for your quote "For whom the bell tolls" by Metallica.

You’re wishing that the hands of doom
Could take your mind away
And you don’t care if you don’t see again
The light of day

I can't believe that I have to give a hint for this one but it seems that I'm an old and lonely headbanger :( . Ozzy was their frontman and the title of this song contains the last word of the band's name.

Schveeet. Here we go.

I am the son
And the heir
Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
I am the son and heir
Of nothing in particular

Please shut your mouth
How can you say
I go about things the wrong way
I am Human and I need to be loved
Just like everybody else does

There's a club, if you'd like to go
You could meet somebody who really loves you
So you go, and you stand on your own
And you leave on your own
And you go home
And you cry
And you want to die

When you say it's gonna happen now,
Well, when exactly do you mean?
See I've already waited too long
And all my hope is gone

I am human and I need to be loved
Just like everybody else does

Allow me to forget the life I've made my own,

Oh, allow me just one answer, and one reason why,

Why this refugee of the family of man must die,
Tell me why

Well, I think other people have had help, so just as long as you didn't do an internet search, I guess it's OK.

dmc
Tue, 9th Mar '04, 9:20pm
As the poster of the lyrics, I don't care as long as your dad didn't have to do an internet search to find the song.

Edit:

Well, given that Vyndin seems to have disappeared, I'll give a hint. I had this album on 8-track tape (so that will give the era) and the band is named after a city or state in the US. As an added hint, a line from the #1 hit song on the album (not the song that I quoted) was quoted in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

Well, I'm posting mainly to bump this. I was pretty sure I knew the band (but not the song) after dmc's hint, but I had to do a search to verify it. I was right on the band, but didn't recognise the song. Doesn't count, of course.

Buck-0-nine "I'm the man"

Like I said in another thread, I've recently got some sense and stopped listening to rap crap so the past few months have been a breath of fresh air for me, so don't get mad if this is an obscure lyric.

And she tried everyday
With endless drive
To make the grade
Then one day
She woke up to find
The perfect girl
Had lost her mind

Splunge
Wed, 31st Mar '04, 4:30pm
I have no idea who Buck-O-nine is, but I did a search and they did indeed perform the song. I was actually thinking of the original written by Joe Jackson, but I'll accept casey's answer.

And I don't know about the lyrics he's quoted.

casey
Wed, 31st Mar '04, 4:47pm
Like I said a lot of the ones mentioned I've never heard of myself but it is a song from progressive metal band, though I'm not sure if this is a universally recognized category, so here is the full song.

She can't stop pacing
She never felt so alive
Her thoughts are racing
Set on overdrive

It takes a village
This she knows is true
They're expecting her
And she's got work to do

He helplessly stands by
It's meaningless to try
As he rubs his red-rimmed eyes
He says I've never seen her get this bad

Even though she seems so high
He knows that she can't fly
And when she falls out of the sky
He'll be standing by

She was raised in a small midwestern town
By a charming and eccentric loving father
She was praised as the perfect teenage girl
And everyone thought highly of her

And she tried everyday
With endless drive
To make the grade
Then one day
She woke up to find
The perfect girl
Had lost her mind

Once barely taking a break
Now she sleeps the days away

She helplessly stands by
It's meaningless to try
All she wants to do is cry
No one ever knew she was so sad

Cause even though she gets so high
And thinks that she can fly
She will fall out of the sky
But in the face of misery
She found hopefulness
Feeling better
She had weathered
This depression

Much to her advantage
She resumed her frantic pace
Boundless power
Midnight hour
She enjoyed the race

And also I'm not sure but they seem to be a mostly European band, but if I get it here in Australia (the last place to get anything music related) then you can probably get it anywhere

Ok this is probably too obscure so I'll try another one.

(the anti-Americans of this board will probably like this one)

Only in America
We're slaves to be free
Only in America we kill the unborn
To make ends meet
Only in America
Sexuality is democracy
Only in America we stamp our gold
"In God We Trust"
What is right or wrong
I don't know who to believe in
My soul sings a different song
In America
What is right or wrong
I don't know who to believe in
My soul sings a different song
In America
In America
In America
Church bells ringing
Pass the plate around
The choir is singing
As their leader falls to the ground
Please mister prophet man
Tell me which way to go
I gave my last dollar
Can I still come to your show
What is right or wrong
I don't know who to believe in
My soul sings a different song
In America
What is right or wrong
I don't know who to believe in
My soul sings a different song
In America
In America
In America
In America
I am right and you are wrong
I am right and you are wrong
I am right and you are wrong
No one's right and no one's wrong
In America
In America
In America
In America
What is right or wrong
I don't know who to believe in
My soul sings a different song
In America
What is right or wrong
I don't know who to believe in
My soul sings a different song
In America
In America

Based on the refrain, I'd guess that it's called In America. I have a vague recollection of hearing the song, but, as I certainly don't have the CD that it's on, I need to take a stab at the band.

Based on the lyrics, I'd imagine that it's a band with religious convictions, so I'd either guess early U2 when three of the four were seriously into religion or Creed. If you want to discount it because I guessed two bands, I won't be offended. (Of course, it probably doesn't matter as I'm probably wrong.)
