First, here is a copy of the rules as set out by Death Rabbit's post at the beginning of Quote Game2.

Someone posts a quote from a movie (no TV shows, music, etc). If you know the movie it came from, and post the answer correctly, then and ONLY then may you post a quote of your own. Unless you're 100% sure you're correct, don't post a quote of your own until you are confirmed correct by the original quoter.

If it's your turn, you must respond with a new quote within 1 day (24 hours) to keep the thread going. Otherwise the thread may be hijacked by the next available impatient jackass.

If the person who's quote you've responded to does not confirm that you are correct within 24 hours of your answer, you are then assumed correct by default, provided no one else chimes in with the correct answer within that time or disputes your answer.

Additional Rule proposed by Death Rabbit and seconded by JSBB:

Using a search engine to find the quote is not allowed. The fun of the game is based on our love of useless movie trivia, and thus using a search engine to look up quotes you don't already know is cheating.

After you have posted your answer, feel free to use a search engine to confirm that you are correct but please do not post an answer if you have found it via a search engine. If you do not know an answer and decide to use a search engine to look it up for your own interest/amusement, please do not post the answer here. Obviously there is no way to monitor this so we will rely upon the honor system.

I have no idea what this one is, but I may have to see the movie once I find out.

Edit:

Uh Oh! I may need a ruling on this one. According to a reliable source and a movie expert (Mrs. Snook) this quote is actually from a deleted scene from a movie. Is that allowed?

[ January 07, 2004, 21:07: Message edited by: The Great Snook ]

JSBB
Wed, 7th Jan '04, 9:11pm
We have had quotes from the extended versions of the Lord of the Rings films before but I don't know if that should be considered to have set a precedent. I would say that extended versions of films should be fair game but I wouldn't consider a deleted scene to be part of the film. However, that is just my opinion.

For the quote in question, I don't know if it is only found in the deleted scenes but I was able to easily find the source of the quote using google so it is, at the very least, taken from a commonly quoted deleted scene.

Death Rabbit
Wed, 7th Jan '04, 9:16pm
I agree with JSBB on the ruling, that sounds fair. Extended edition is okay, deleted scenes are not, IMO. I think people are much more likely to see an extended edition of a film than go looking for deleted scenes.

And no, this quote is not from a deleted scene, as the movie I got it from doesn't have any extended edition OR deleted scenes that I'm aware of. If you have a guess, Snook, go ahead. I'll give a hint if you want one.

Baezlebub
Thu, 8th Jan '04, 12:18pm

Harbourboy

Why do you keep on emphasising that I'm an aussie? I know I am...

Should I bolt every time I get that feeling in my gut when I meet someone new? Well, I've been listening to my gut since I was 14 years old, and frankly speaking, I've come to the conclusion that my guts have s**t for brains.

Hmmm, I know that is from something I have seen VERY recently.....

School of Rock?

Nope.

Harbourboy

Of course - wrong Jack Black movie. Nobody is as self-analysing as Rob from "High Fidelity" which I now have on DVD. I should have got that straight away - I only watched it a couple of days ago.

Baezlebub
Mon, 26th Jan '04, 8:57am
I love that movie. There are really only so few movies that require ownership. That's one of them.

Knock yourself out Harbourboy.

Very very recent movie. Well received by critics, even though those particular words were spoken by someone who also appeared in Scary Movie.

Gonzago
Tue, 27th Jan '04, 3:15pm
Lost in Translation?

Harbourboy
Tue, 27th Jan '04, 3:18pm
Yes - words spoken by Anna Faris in one of the few funny scenes in that movie.

Gonzago
Tue, 27th Jan '04, 3:29pm
I knew it sounded familiar. It was the Scary Movie hint that locked it.

An easy one:

"What is best in life?"
"To crush your enemies, drive them before you, and hear the lamentations of the women."

Sounds like something Groucho Marx would say (or someone trying to copy him).

A Night at the Opera?

Rallymama
Tue, 27th Jan '04, 6:07pm
It's not Night at the Opera or any other Marx Brothers movie, but I can see putting Groucho on a platform near the author of this quote (for it is indeed a move derived from a book), when considering the realm of witty social commentary.

JSBB
Thu, 29th Jan '04, 2:06am
@ Harbourboy - Yes it is the character that is the basis for the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen character although I would not go so far as to say that anyone in that film is remotely like the literary character that he/she is based upon.

My quote is

"You paid us more than if you had been telling us the truth, and enough more to make it alright!"

Well, since the invitation is open, and I suck sufficiently to where I visit this thread regularly and hardly ever know the answer...

Death Rabbit

@ Gonzie

The "jackass" refers to the "Impatient Jackass" clause in the rules of the quote game. Check it out on the first page of the thread.

In any case, the quote is from Bull Durham.

Here's a fairly easy one, but a great one nonetheless. In fact, probably one of the best lines I've ever heard.

"We're both sticking to our guns. The difference is...mine are loaded."

JSBB
Wed, 18th Feb '04, 11:25pm

Aldazar
Thu, 19th Feb '04, 2:00am
@Jaguar - Correct!

Your go.

As for rule ammendment, isn't that just a matter of honesty anyway? I didn't realise we actually had people who would 'cheat' in such a way AND mention it. Personally, the only thing I use search engines for in this game is to check correctness and validity of my own quotes.

Jaguar
Thu, 19th Feb '04, 6:51am
I agree with the ones above. The only reason that I would say that I used a search engine is to hide the fact that I saw a pathetic movie.

Anyways, here we go.

"Sir, are you classified as a human?"
"Negative. I am a meat popsicle."

Baezlebub

Not Sly. But nice try.

Judge Dredd?

No, that would be Sly again.

JSBB
Thu, 19th Feb '04, 12:33pm
I was thinking about this on the drive into work and this little voice in my head says that the quote is from a Bruce Willis film. I guess that would have to make it from the The Fifth Element.

Am I green?

Baezlebub
Fri, 20th Feb '04, 3:33am
Hey yeah, that does sound like its from Fifth Element JSBB. Good call. Now we just need the handy dandy confirmation.

Aldazar
Fri, 20th Feb '04, 5:52am
Yeah, even if this may not count as confirmation - what with me not being the one who actually posted the quote, I saw that a couple of days ago and it's definitely Bruce from The Fifth Element

Jaguar
Fri, 20th Feb '04, 9:14am

BTW, sorry it took so long to confirm.

Yes, it was from The Shadow. I would have preferred to have posted "I'd climb a mountain for a llama!" but that was only on the billboard and not spoken out loud.

Harbourboy

This should be easy, but that's good because it helps keep this thread moving along:

"Let off some steam"

It's a corny classic. I love it.

JSBB
Fri, 20th Feb '04, 12:50pm
Is that from Commando?

Baldrak
Fri, 20th Feb '04, 1:07pm
I think you're correct...
I haven't seen Commando in quite a while, but I believe this is what Arnie said after throwing a steel pipe through the Bad Guy and a boiler...

JSBB
Fri, 20th Feb '04, 1:10pm
That was the scene that I was thinking of but I will wait to hear from Harbourboy as I am not sure if that is the exact wording in Commando and I imagine that line could easily be in many other films.

Harbourboy
Fri, 20th Feb '04, 1:10pm
Yes you are right. He says "Let off some steam, Bennett" after he throws a steaming pipe through Bennet's torso. Brilliant.
