I'll spare you with my list of names that I'm sure no one has heard of :p One you should have heard of is Neil Peart of RUSH. I'm sure he will get a few more votes :)

I second Peart and add a healthy dose of Bonzo.

I am going to agree with Sorvo - Neil Peart is widely regarded as one of the best, if not the best, in rock music. As a former drummer myself, I am absolutely amazed at the things this guy can do.

Of course, if we include jazz drummers as well, then there's Buddy Rich, Joe Morello, Louis Bellson, Billy Cobham, etc. etc. etc.

Mark Zonder (Warlord/Fates Warning), John Bohnam (Led Zeppelin) and Bill Ward (Black Sabbath).

@Sorvo

I'm amazed, I thought that your choice would be David Lombardo.

Have any of you guys ever listened to a band named Candiria? Trust me, download a couple songs of 'em. They would make even Peart blush.

Of the past, John Bohnom.

Of the present Travis Barker by miles over everyone else.
