View Full Version : Song Quote Game 2
dmc Sun, 2nd May '04, 12:11am Same rules.
Sarevok Anchev posted this in the last thread:
You should know better, and so should I
That rapid tongue brings out my evil eye
So, here we are now, it's like a curse
Carry on . . .
Sarevok• Sun, 2nd May '04, 3:24pm Argh no one guessed it yet. It is Freak Kitchen with Razor Flowers. First person to get here take a go.
BOC Sun, 2nd May '04, 3:55pm An easy one:
But I feel I’m growing older
And the songs that I have sung
Echo in the distance
Like the sound
Of a windmill goin’ ’round
Ofelix Sun, 2nd May '04, 5:18pm Deep Purple - Soldier of Fortune?
BOC Sun, 2nd May '04, 5:19pm Yup.
Ofelix Sun, 2nd May '04, 5:36pm Okay herrre ya go
See me ride out of the sunset
On your colour TV screen
Out for all that I can get
If you know what I mean
Women to the left of me
And women to the right
Ain't got no gun
Ain't got no knife
But don't you start no fight
Xei Win Toh Sun, 2nd May '04, 5:38pm That one was in the first thread.
TNT by AC/DC.
Ofelix Sun, 2nd May '04, 5:43pm I didn't know! I kind of let it go by itself even though I created it... Anyway you got it right
Xei Win Toh Sun, 2nd May '04, 5:44pm Many rare species will perish soon
And we will be short on food
Rednik Sun, 2nd May '04, 7:47pm Woohoo, I think I finally got one!
Paradise, by Stratovarius?
Xei Win Toh Sun, 2nd May '04, 8:11pm Yes.
Rednik Sun, 2nd May '04, 8:23pm F*** yeah.
Okay, see if you can get this:
When cowboy Ronnie comes to town
Forks out his tongue at human rights
Sit down, enjoy our ethnic meals
Dine on some charbroiled nuns
Sarevok• Tue, 4th May '04, 1:06am dead kennedys - bleed for me
Rednik Tue, 4th May '04, 2:28am Nice, go.
Sarevok• Tue, 4th May '04, 10:08pm me no wanna go
do you wanna go
say no
do you wanna go
say no
me no wanna go right now
me no wanna go right now
It has been a while so here is a clue.
It is a reggae tune from the 80s. The artist used to live in a place called Electric Avenue.
[ May 05, 2004, 21:37: Message edited by: Sarevok Anchev ]
Splunge Thu, 6th May '04, 12:59am I'm going to take a stab at the artist only because of the Electric Avenue hint - Eddy Grant. No idea on the song, though.
Sarevok• Thu, 6th May '04, 1:08am Right so far
Mk it is War Party by Eddy Grant
Splunge take a go

Splunge Thu, 6th May '04, 10:12pm Then there's a light in my eye and a guy says
Out of the car long hair
Oowee - You're coming with me
Said the local police
Takara Sat, 8th May '04, 12:11am I think it's time for a hint splunge.
Splunge Sat, 8th May '04, 12:24am It's from 1972. The band is named after its co-founders - first names Ken + Jim. Title is about mom and dad.
Death Rabbit Sat, 8th May '04, 12:40am Your mama don't dance, and your daddy don't rock & roll.
Loggins & Messina. Later Poison. Eh?
- edit - I'm pretty sure I'm right, so here we go...
"I was there through the ages
chained slaves to their cages
I have seen you eat your own
I'm the cycle of pain of a thousand-year-old reign
I'm suicide and salvation
the omen to nations
that you worship on all fours
I'm the infection and famine
that's knocking at your door
[chorus]
I am the incubus
I lay the egg in you
the worm that burrows through your brain
but you are the beast
who calls me by my name
I send your children to wars
to serve bastards and whores
so now you know
you created me on the day that you were born
[chorus]
I lay you down to sleep
your soul to keep
better cross your heart before you die
and now you know, know that you are mine"

BOC Sat, 8th May '04, 1:59am Unholy by Kiss.
Death Rabbit Sat, 8th May '04, 3:22am Yup. Not too easy, was it?
BOC Sat, 8th May '04, 9:53am Well, it isn't one of their classics but I have the LP so it wasn't difficult for me.
A voice from the past cried give peace a chance
He paid our price now he’s free at last
And imagine we called him a dreamer
Splunge Sat, 8th May '04, 4:23pm For the record, Death Rabbit's answer was correct.
No idea on BOC's, though.
dmc Sat, 8th May '04, 11:51pm Molly Hatchet - Fall of the Peacemakers
BOC Sun, 9th May '04, 2:13am Correct.
dmc Sun, 9th May '04, 7:39am He did this, took all you had, and left you this way still you pray never stray never taste of the fruit you never thought to question why.
Avarahtar Sun, 9th May '04, 3:09pm A Perfect Circle - Judith
dmc Mon, 10th May '04, 3:27am Right.
Avarahtar Mon, 10th May '04, 4:23am So where were the spiders while the fly tried to break our balls
Just a beer light to guide us
So we *****ed about his fans and should we crush his sweet hands?
dmc Mon, 10th May '04, 8:05am Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
Avarahtar Tue, 11th May '04, 1:37am Correct.
dmc Tue, 11th May '04, 7:10am I've been here many times before
And walked this sacred ground
But this time you got me on my knees
You got me
Jaguar Tue, 11th May '04, 10:59am Def Leppard - Lady Strange
dmc Tue, 11th May '04, 4:51pm Right. I need to break out some of my wife's opera to keep you guys guessing.
Jaguar Tue, 11th May '04, 11:39pm "Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more then I could chew.
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.
I faced it all and I stood tall;
And..."
That's all you get.
Death Rabbit Tue, 11th May '04, 11:41pm "...I did it myyyyyyyyyyy way." God bless you, Frank.
Jaguar Wed, 12th May '04, 12:34am Wow, the man has fur and knowledge. Go Death Rabbit. :thumb:
Death Rabbit Wed, 12th May '04, 12:51am "All you've got is this moment
The 21st century's yesterday
You can care all you want
Everybody does, yeah...that's ok
So slide over here
and give me a moment
your moves are so raw
I've got to let you know
You're one of my kind"
Bion Wed, 12th May '04, 2:22am INXS - Need You Tonight
(arrrr why do I remember this song so well...)
How 'bout:
In a river the colour of lead
Immerse the baby's head
Edit: Hint: see the May cover of Spin

Splunge Thu, 13th May '04, 7:39pm I think we need another hint (or new lyrics).
Bion Thu, 13th May '04, 9:03pm arrr, didn't think it would be so tough...
OK, expanded lyrics:
In a river the colour of lead
Immerse the baby's head
Wrap her up in the news of the day
Drop her on a doorstep, girl...
And additional hint:
not the Joneses!
Edit: Hmmm, OK, first person to even name the group gets the thread...

"Life it seems, will fade away
Drifting further every day
Getting lost within myself
Nothing matters no one else
I have lost the will to live
Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free"
easiest lyrics i think ive ever posted :p
dmc Fri, 14th May '04, 6:35am Metallica - Fade to Black
"The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless longing for some solitary company"
BOC Fri, 14th May '04, 6:37am "Fade to black" by Metallica.
EDIT: dmc was faster.
Master of Nuhn Fri, 14th May '04, 2:07pm continues like "I know that I must do what's right"
Sounds like Toto's 'Africa'...
Actually, I'm quite sure. :D
Here's mine:
The chills that you spill up my back
Keep me filled with
Satisfaction when we're done
Satisfaction of what's to come
I couldn't ask for another
No I couldn't ask for another
Your groove I do deeply dig
No walls only the bridge
My supperdish, my succotash wish
(Sing it baby)

Takara Fri, 14th May '04, 4:32pm Groove is in the heart. By delight.
Edit: I've just listened to it, so I'll post some.
You know my bip-bopping days are over
I hung my boots up and then retired from the disco floor
Now the centre of my so called being is
The space between your bed and wardrobe with the louvre doors
Six months on, the winter's gone
The disenchanted pony
Left the town with the circus boy
The circus boy got lonely
[Edit: This band was started in Glasgow, Scotland. I've also expanded the lyrics]

Sarevok• Sun, 16th May '04, 9:47pm Mmm, more hints?
Takara Sun, 16th May '04, 10:46pm It was Belle and Sebastion- My wandering days are over.
The next IJ to come along can continue.
Xei Win Toh Mon, 17th May '04, 7:23am This is the noise that keeps me awake
My head explodes and my body aches
dmc Tue, 18th May '04, 9:32pm Garbage - Push It
Xei Win Toh Tue, 18th May '04, 9:33pm Uh-huh.
dmc Tue, 18th May '04, 9:51pm Realize I don't want to be a miser
Confide with sly you'll be the wiser
Splunge Tue, 18th May '04, 9:57pm I'm not sure why I know this one, since I'm not really a fan, but I think it's Red Hot Chili Peppers - Give It Away
dmc Tue, 18th May '04, 11:46pm Right Splunge, you old fossil.
:D
Splunge Wed, 19th May '04, 12:04am I'll have you know I'm an elderly fossil, not old. :p
And where do we go from here?
Which is the way that's clear
Still looking for that blue jean baby queen
Prettiest girl I've ever seen
See her shake on the movie screen, Jimmy Dean, (James Dean)
Well OK, maybe I'm old. :D
Death Rabbit Wed, 19th May '04, 12:21am That was "Rock On"...but I can't remember the guy who sang it. I know Michael Damien re-made it in the 80's, but I can't remember the original guy.
EDIT - Dan Essix? Maybe David? Somethin?
ps - Chili Peppers are da bomb. If you have to be old to listen to them...buy me some depends and flip on Matlock, cuz I'm ready to retire with Flea and the boys. ;)
dmc Wed, 19th May '04, 12:24am David Essex is, I think, the original writer. Tori Amos and the Smashing Pumpkins have covered it too.
Splunge Wed, 19th May '04, 12:25am D.R., when are you going to admit you're older than 24? :p
David Essex, Rock On is correct.
Death Rabbit Wed, 19th May '04, 12:44am Probably on the same day I develop a taste for Bourbon or Whiskey. ;)
"Some people work for a living,
Some people work for fun, girl I just work for you.
They told me marriage was a give and take,
Well, you've shown me you can take you've got some giving to do.
And now you tell me that you're having my baby,
I'll tell you that I'm happy if you want me to...
Well one step further and my back will break,
If my best isn't good enough
Than how can it be good enough for two?
I can't work any harder than I do..."
Splunge Thu, 20th May '04, 7:42pm *ahem*
Hint, please.
Death Rabbit Fri, 21st May '04, 7:50pm Ummm....it's an 80's song, and the artist who sings it was in a group at the time, has since gone solo and become rather infamous for his non-musical activities. It's not Michael Jackson.
Another lyric:
"Somebody tell me
why I work so hard for you"
Djieff Fri, 21st May '04, 10:04pm I'll take a wild guess and say George Michael, "I want your sex". I't a shot in the dark, really.
Splunge Fri, 21st May '04, 10:25pm I'll see your shot in the dark and raise you a wild guess of my own:
Because D.R. said the singer was in a band at the time, I'll say Wham, and since the only Wham song I can think of is the totally wretched "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go", I'll go with that.
Djieff Fri, 21st May '04, 10:42pm the artist who sings it was in a group at the time Damn, I guess I just read too fast and missed that vital piece of info. :o
I don't know any other Wham! songs, so I fold...
Takara Sat, 22nd May '04, 12:33am Wham did freedom, but I've no idea about other songs.
Death Rabbit Sat, 22nd May '04, 2:33am Yes, the band is "Wham!", George Michael sang "Freedom" after he went solo, and the song is neither "I want your sex" or "Wake me up before you go-go." That kind of rhymed. :heh:
Shall I give up the title and provide another song lyric so we can move on, or do you guys still want to try it? It shouldn't be too hard, it was one of Wham's biggest hits (next to the irritating "Go-Go" song, of course).
Hacken Slash Sat, 22nd May '04, 3:40am I think it's either "Restless Hearts" or "Restless Whispers"...I just know I hated that damn song.
Takara Sat, 22nd May '04, 9:01am I hate to correct you DR, but freedom was a big Wham hit. It came out in 1984.
Death Rabbit Sat, 22nd May '04, 9:12am I thought you were referring to "Freedom '90," which GM did in fact release as a solo artist. I must admit I'm not familiar with the Wham! version of Freedom, and never knew there was one. Perhaps the "90" version is a remix?
Takara Sat, 22nd May '04, 9:42am lol. We are both right. George michael did release a track called Freedom. It has no relation to the Wham track.
Splunge Sun, 23rd May '04, 4:14pm I think D.R. needs to post new lyrics before someone else invokes the Impatient Jackass rule.
Death Rabbit Mon, 24th May '04, 1:28am Oh for gods sakes. Alright, it's called "Everything She Wants." Okay, here's another one, same era.
"I can't believe it!
There she goes again!
She's tidied up, and now I can't find anything!
All my tubes and wires, and careful nooks
and antiquated notions"
dmc Mon, 24th May '04, 7:02am Thomas Dolby - She Blinded Me With Science
Moon appears to shine and light the sky
With the help of some fireflies
I wonder how they have the power to shine, shine, shine
I can see them under the pine
nior Mon, 24th May '04, 8:51am Baby, I Love Your Way - Peter Frampton
Here's an easy one:
There is no historical precedent to put,
Words in the mouth of the president.
There's no such thing as a winnable war,
It's a lie we don't believe anymore.
dmc Mon, 24th May '04, 4:55pm Sting - Russians (or The Russians, don't remember)
The clothes she wears, the sexy ways,
Make an old man wish for younger days
She knows she's built and knows how to please
Sure enough to knock a man to his knees
Rednik Mon, 24th May '04, 10:53pm Nothing like depressing music from the 80's...
Is this Brick House?
dmc Tue, 25th May '04, 12:55am Yes, Brickhouse. And I assume the depressing '80's comment was for the Sting song, not this, as it was '70's and not depressing.
Rednik Tue, 25th May '04, 1:50am Fa Shiggiddo, that was a cinch. Yep, I find Sting depressing, I mean, c'mon he was on Ally McBeal for god's sake.
Okay, here's my quote. It's supar L33t easy.
Oh yeah, I guess it makes me smile
I found it hard, it was hard to find
Oh well, whatever, nevermind
dmc Tue, 25th May '04, 2:15am Nirvana - Smells like teen spirit
Rednik Tue, 25th May '04, 2:29am Talk about speedy service, that was it. Go.
dmc Tue, 25th May '04, 6:23am Someone let the dogs out
They'll show you where the truth is
The grass is always greener
Where the dogs are shedding
Death Rabbit Tue, 25th May '04, 4:20pm Soundgarden, "Outshined?"
dmc Tue, 25th May '04, 5:00pm Right-o DR.
Death Rabbit Tue, 25th May '04, 5:05pm I hate to break up the "Seattle Rock" party we seem to have going here, but I don't want to make my next one too easy.
"He wakes up in the morning
Brush his teeth, bite to eat and he's rolling
Never changes a thing
The week ends, the week begins, she thinks
We look at each other
Wondering what the other is thinking
But we never say a thing
And these crimes between us grow deeper."
dmc Tue, 25th May '04, 5:34pm It's Dave Mathews, but I don't have the CD with me and can't remember the name. I'll see if someone has the disc here in the office, otherwise, someone will probably get it right before I get home. Oh well.
Death Rabbit Tue, 25th May '04, 5:58pm The song is "Ants Marching," one of their early hits. You can have it. Go.
dmc Tue, 25th May '04, 11:54pm I'll take the charity:
So you bust out the door while it's still closed
Still sick from the food you ate
And then you run to the store for quick relief
From a bottle of Kaopectate
Death Rabbit Wed, 26th May '04, 4:14pm That would be "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugar Hill Gang.
"Some say that we are players
Some say that we are pawns
But we've been makin' money since
The day that we were born
Got to slow down, 'cause we're low down
Run around in circles
Live a life of solitude
'Till we find ourselves a partner
Someone to relate to
Then we slow down, before we fall down
(chorus)
Live for liposuction
Detox for your rent
Overdose at Christmas
and give it up for lent
My friends are all so cynical
Refuse to keep the faith
We all enjoy the madness
'Cause we know we're gonna fade away"
Defspeal Wed, 26th May '04, 5:51pm Robbie Williams Millennium (Nice on Death Rabbit i love that song :) )
NEW One:
I'll sing it one last time for you
Then we really have to go
You have been the only thing that's right
In all I've done
I can barely look at you
But every single time I do
I know we'll make it anywhere
Anywhere from here
(Chorus bit)

Death Rabbit Wed, 26th May '04, 6:07pm It is indeed. Most of RW's stuff is really good. Go.
Splunge Thu, 27th May '04, 7:58pm Defspeal, I think we need a hint (or, perhaps, new lyrics if this song/band is as obscure as I think it might be after I did a search).
And BTW, for future reference, when you post lyrics after someone has confirmed you were correct, you should make a new post rather than editing your first one. ;)
Defspeal Sat, 29th May '04, 11:16am Ok Splunge, I will do in future.
Perhaps the band I chose was a bit obsucure (it was snow patrol), Here is an easy softball just to keep this moving and let someone else have a go
"Did I disappoint you
or leave a bad taste in your mouth
you act like you never had love
and you want me to go without
well it's....."
Mesmero Sat, 29th May '04, 11:36am One from U2.
I don't think this next one will be too hard to guess:
You know that a man ain't supposed to cry,
But these tears I can't hold inside.
Losing you would end my life you see,
'cause you mean that much to me.

Splunge Sat, 29th May '04, 4:49pm Marvin Gaye, I Heard It Through The Grapevine
Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin' glass
Seven years of bad luck, the good things in your past
When you believe in things that you don't understand
Then you suffer
Mesmero Sat, 29th May '04, 4:54pm No! Not Marvin Gaye
I think Creedence Clearwater Revival was first with the song, and their 10 minute version (although Marvin Gaye's version wasn't bad either) was just magnificent.
Splunge Sat, 29th May '04, 5:37pm I just did a Google search.
It was written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong.
From what I could figure out, Gladys Knight and the Pips were the first to have it in the charts in 1967. Marvin Gaye made it famous in 1968. CCR did their version in 1976.
So, assuming the above is correct, I guess we're both right, Mesmero, but it's your call. Are you going to let my answer (and subsequent lyrics) stand, or do you want to post again, since I didn't actually wait for your response before I posted my new lyrics?
Mesmero Sun, 30th May '04, 12:13am You gave a correct answer and your lyrics should stand, and after all, Marvin Gaye became most famous with the song.
I must admit that I always thought CCR was first, but you are correct, Marvin Gaye had an album with the same name in 1968, and CCR didn't publish it until 1970 on 'Cosmo's Factory'.
This is actually pretty disturbing as I always tried to convince people it isn't a Marvin Gaye song. Oh well, CCR's version is still the better in my opinion :)
Septic Yogurt Sun, 30th May '04, 12:48am Stevie Wonder - Superstition.
I like to dream
Yes, yes right between the sound machine
On a cloud of sound I drift in the night
Any place it goes is right

Sarevok• Sun, 30th May '04, 12:43pm The Stranglers - no more heroes
I'm just the oily slick
on the windup world of the nervous tick
in a very fashionable hovel
Faerus Stoneslammer Tue, 1st Jun '04, 8:31am Not a clue...but it's been over 24 hrs, and I invoke the right of the IJ.
I'll try to make this a toughy...but I suspect that Sarevok might know this one anyway :p .
It's the honesty of these worlds
Ruled by magic and mighty swords
That makes my soul long for the past
Splunge Tue, 1st Jun '04, 3:01pm Faerus, you're not allowed to invoke the IJ rule in this case. We're following the same rules as the Quote Game, where the 24 hour IJ rule can only be used if someone doesn't post lyrics when it's their turn to do so, or if someone makes a guess and is not confirmed correct or incorrect within 24 hours.
Here, we have to wait for Sarevok to post a hint or new lyrics. But her better hurry. :p
Sarevok• Tue, 1st Jun '04, 11:58pm Her? :toofar:
Clue -
His first name is Elvis. Not the real Elvis though
Splunge Wed, 2nd Jun '04, 3:05am Oops! Sorry about that! I actually typed "he", but I guess my finger slipped and also hit the key to the right of the 'e'. No offense intended. (I'm such a crappy typist.) :o
Anyway, I'm guessing it's not Elvis Stoyko (the Canadian figure skater) :p , so it must be Elvis Costello. No idea on the song though.
Xei Win Toh Wed, 2nd Jun '04, 1:16pm Though it probably doesn't matter, Faerus' quote is "Elvenpath" by Nightwish.
Sarevok• Wed, 2nd Jun '04, 7:44pm Elvis Costello yes but what is the tune
Faerus Stoneslammer Thu, 3rd Jun '04, 12:58am :yot:
Woopsy! Sorry boys and girls...my bad. Silly IJ rules...
And though it doesn't matter...Xei Win Toh's correct :p ...too bad the IJ rule didn't apply... :shake:
nior Thu, 3rd Jun '04, 6:55am Sarevok's song is Beyond Belief by Elvis Costelo and the Attractions.
Here's a new one:
There was a time, I'm sure you heard it all before.
When I felt like I have walked throught all the doors.
I have no time for things that I now hold so dear.
My ego held my hand and whisper in my ear.
Splunge Fri, 4th Jun '04, 10:00pm Hint, please
nior Sat, 5th Jun '04, 6:33am The group's music is somewhere in between Swing Out Sister and a downtempo Matt Bianco, with a little Sade thrown in. Sort of coffee-table soul and smooth jazz band and kind'a hesitant to work . The title is the same as one of Stevie Wonder's song. By the way, it's a late 90's song and when they recorded this song, they were Britons and Aussie.
Splunge Mon, 7th Jun '04, 3:36pm I think you should either give more hints, or post a new set of lyrics. ;)
nior Tue, 8th Jun '04, 3:43am I think you should either give more hints, or post a new set of lyrics.Actually, I did. In fact, I posted the answers too. But it's in another thread that has something in common with this one... if you get the drift. ;)
Takara Tue, 8th Jun '04, 8:05am Er.... What Nior? Try posting it in this one. Anyway, why dont you start us going again Splunge.
Aikanaro Tue, 8th Jun '04, 8:58am Lately by Workshy
(Never heard of them, but you posted it in the song stuck in head thread...)
nior Tue, 8th Jun '04, 9:54am Finally, Aikanaro got it. Man, I can't believe you haven't heard of the group. I mean the song may be hard but the group is still alive.
Aikanaro Tue, 8th Jun '04, 11:01am Hoorah! Finally got one
Venus never showed the way
The stars would not be sold
Heaven sold the light of day
And we were never told
Splunge Fri, 11th Jun '04, 3:51pm Hint, please.
I think half my post count is a result of posts like this. :p
Aikanaro Sat, 12th Jun '04, 5:28am Alright, some hints:
The song of this band which became popular was released in 1997. These lyrics may be a bit more familiar (though strangely enough, no one I talk to seems to remember this song, no matter how obsessive we all were over it at the time ;) )
And the band is not obscure :D
She dreams a champagne dream
Stawberry surprise, pink linen and white paper
Lavender and cream
Fields of butterflies, reality escapes her
She says that love is for fools who fall behind
And I'm somewhere between
I never really know
A killer from a savior
'Til I break at the bend
Splunge Mon, 14th Jun '04, 3:33pm Woo Hoo! I get to add to my post count yet again! :p
Aik, perhaps you should post a new set of lyrics from a different band, since nobody seems to know this one.
Aikanaro Tue, 15th Jun '04, 8:08am Rightio, the first one was Song For You by Fuel, the second one was Shimmer.
This one should be easier...
'Someone feed the monkey while I dig in search of China'
dmc Tue, 15th Jun '04, 5:04pm A Perfect Circle - Weak and Powerless
Not having confirmation, but figuring I'm right . . .
This I feel as the dawn, It fades to gray

Aikanaro Wed, 16th Jun '04, 8:28am I hereby confirm it, and will probably not get another quote for a few months now :(
Still, it was good having you all stumped, and confirming my theory that no matter how well known a band is, it doesn't necessarily mean that anyone's ever heard of them...
Splunge Thu, 17th Jun '04, 3:25am Damn! I'm so tempted to say Stone Temple Pilots, but I can't tink of the song.
Maybe it'll come to me later...
Avarahtar Thu, 17th Jun '04, 4:24am Creep - Stone Temple Pilots
Thanks Splunge... I could think of the song, but not the artist :p
Splunge Thu, 17th Jun '04, 4:38am :grr:

...says it all.
:p
dmc Thu, 17th Jun '04, 4:40pm In case confirmation is needed, Creep is correct. Sorry Splunge.
Avarahtar Thu, 17th Jun '04, 5:02pm I wasn't sure if it was Creep or one of the other songs off Core.
You helped him, you laid by his side when he died.
He held in his breath and you broke down and cried.
You stood there, confused, you couldn't believe.
You're helpless, and realize, it's better you leave.
dmc Wed, 23rd Jun '04, 6:06am Hint please . . . Doesn't even sound vaguely familiar.
Avarahtar Thu, 24th Jun '04, 3:11am Sorry, I have realized that it is probably pretty obscure.... but it was late and I just choose a song off the album I had playing at the time... since I appear to have killed the game for so long I'll give a rather obvious hint.
The band changed their name to Finger Eleven after their first album.
dmc Thu, 24th Jun '04, 3:17am Never heard of them, so I hope someone else has.
Splunge Thu, 24th Jun '04, 8:46pm I've heard of them, but that's about it. They might be a Canadian band. I'd probably recognise their music if I heard it, but I'm not familiar enough with them to know the lyrics.
Harbourboy Thu, 24th Jun '04, 10:03pm Never heard of them either.
Splunge Sat, 26th Jun '04, 2:41am That's long enough to wait for a hint, and since one doesn't seem to be forthcoming:
Mother told me, yes, she told me I’d meet girls like you.
She also told me, stay away, you’ll never know what you’ll catch.
Just the other day I heard a soldier falling off some indonesian junk that’s going round.
Mommy’s alright, daddy’s alright, they just seem a little weird.

dmc Sat, 26th Jun '04, 8:12pm One of my TURNS, BOC.
Anyway, yours is Aerosmith, Kings and Queens.
Here's one in honor of you:
"And it was clear she couldn't go on
Then the door was open and the wind appeared
The candles blew then disappeared"
BOC Sat, 26th Jun '04, 8:29pm "Don't fear the reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult.
Battles won and victory cheers
Were the sounds I'd heard for years
But the woman I really loved
Was losing me to all this blood
EDIT:
Hint: They are one of the most famous bands of british hard rock during 70s and they are considered to be the first who introduced the epic element to hard rock. Their name is taken from a character from Charles Dickens' "David Copperfield". This song is included in their 1973 LP.

Splunge Mon, 28th Jun '04, 4:04pm Well, that would probably be Uriah Heep. I'm familiar with some of their music, but I don't recognise this one.
BOC Mon, 28th Jun '04, 4:33pm Uriah Heep is indeed the band. As for the song, here some more lyrics and if nobody find them in the next couple of hours, you can post new lyrics.
I only knew i had to win
And build a world where i was king
But leaders come and leaders go
And that's the truth I came to know
Splunge Mon, 28th Jun '04, 7:12pm Well, a couple of hours is up. :p
You've got that touch so gentle and sweet
But you've got that look so critical
Can't talk to you babe you know I get so weak
Sometimes I think that love is just mythical
(Note: I did a seach of the Uriah Heep song - it was Sweet Freedom, but I'm overly familiar with that one.)
BOC Mon, 28th Jun '04, 8:08pm Splunge, "Sweet Freedom" is the title of the LP, the title of the song is "Pilgrim".
As for yours, it's "This flight tonight" by Nazareth but I have the impression that Nazareth's version must be a cover and the original belongs to someone else.
Splunge Mon, 28th Jun '04, 8:16pm See? I told you I wasn't really familiar with it. :p
Anyway, onto my lyrics. I was indeed thinking of Nazareth, but you're right - I'd forgotten that their's was a cover version. The original was by Joni Mitchell.
Oh well, since you got the version I was thinking of, you're up.
BOC Mon, 28th Jun '04, 8:24pm In the distance I saw a woman

Splunge Mon, 28th Jun '04, 10:08pm I believe it's The Tubes - She's A Beauty. But I'll wait for confirmation.
dmc Tue, 29th Jun '04, 12:59am You're right Splunge.
Splunge Tue, 29th Jun '04, 1:21am Softball time:
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow
Harbourboy Tue, 29th Jun '04, 1:36am Oooh, oooh, oooh!
It's Led Zeppelin - "Immigrant Song"
Aaaaaah ahhhh ah.
Although some burglar nicked my "Remasters" CD so I haven't heard it for a while.
Splunge Tue, 29th Jun '04, 2:34am The Song Quote Game is too hard. I can never get anything in that. So, just trying to lull us into a false sense of security, were you? :p
Go.
Harbourboy Tue, 29th Jun '04, 2:56am Don't spoil my victory by calling it a 'softball'..... Usually I've never even heard of the artist even after the answer is revealed.
Here's mine:
"Got a good job, got a good office, got a new wife, got a new life"
EDIT: Hmmm, no bites for 24 hours. The next line is "And the family is fine."

Splunge Wed, 30th Jun '04, 3:43pm Y'know, I feel like I should know this one, but it's just not coming to me. Maybe a hint about the artist or song title?
dmc Wed, 30th Jun '04, 4:58pm
How can it take a Long Island guy like me that long to remember???
Billy Joel - Scenes from an Italian Restaurant
anyway:
"You put a hand on my cheek
And then you turn your eyes away
If you don't feel complete
If I don't take you all of the way go"
Splunge Wed, 30th Jun '04, 7:03pm That was it! - Billy Joel!
Anyway, dmc's is Tom Petty, but I keep getting his songs mixed up. I think it's You Got Lucky (or is it You Got Lucky Babe? - something like that).
Harbourboy Wed, 30th Jun '04, 10:12pm Belated confirmation that it was Billy Joel - Scenes from an Italian Restaurant. Carry on.
dmc Thu, 1st Jul '04, 12:58am Grumble . . . note to self, stop posting old songs around old guys . . . :almostmad:
Go Splunge.
Splunge Thu, 1st Jul '04, 3:08am Well, I'm feeling a bit silly, so time to post something in that vein:
Hey!
Hey!
etc.
Harbourboy Thu, 1st Jul '04, 3:13am Hmmm, that could be just about anything.....
Splunge Thu, 1st Jul '04, 3:19am Oops! You're right!
Next line:
Hey!
:p
Harbourboy Thu, 1st Jul '04, 3:47am Bah. No idea. My golden run in the Song Quote game is over.
dmc Thu, 1st Jul '04, 6:02am Didn't Elvis do a "Hey, Hey, Hey" song?
Could also be the theme song to Fat Albert.
[ July 01, 2004, 06:15: Message edited by: dmc ]
Mesmero Thu, 1st Jul '04, 9:20am First song that comes to mind is Satisfaction from the Rolling Stones. There is an 'hey hey hey' in that song, but not really on three seperate lines; more like three times 'hey' on one line.
Aikanaro Thu, 1st Jul '04, 11:39am The Hey Song by someone or other?
(I have sheet music for that, and every so often the flutes and clarinets will shout out 'hey')
BOC Thu, 1st Jul '04, 12:50pm As the others have already said it can be everything. Although the two possible songs that come to my mind are "Hey stupid" by Alice Cooper and "Hey baby" by Janis Joplin.
Splunge Thu, 1st Jul '04, 3:39pm This is trickier than I thought. Aik is closest, but it's not actually the name of the song.
Hints:
1. Next line:
Hey!
(Is anyone seeing a pattern here?)
2. Think sporting events.
Jack Funk Thu, 1st Jul '04, 4:04pm Gary Glitter - Rock and Roll, Part 2
Splunge Thu, 1st Jul '04, 4:11pm Yep! a.k.a. The Hey Song (as Aik said).
You're up, Jack.
Jack Funk Thu, 1st Jul '04, 4:58pm And when she passes, each one she passes goes "ahh"
Splunge Thu, 1st Jul '04, 5:01pm I think it's The Girl From Epanema (sp?), but I have no idea who the artist is.
Jack Funk Thu, 1st Jul '04, 5:17pm Stan Getz and Jaoa Gilberto.
Considering the age of the song (and the fact that you obviously didn't Google the lyrics), that will do.
You're up!
Splunge Thu, 1st Jul '04, 5:29pm Really? Stan Getz? The jazz sax player? Wow, I never knew that.
OK, something not as tricky:
Soon the Gypsy Queen in a glaze of Vaseline
Will perform on guillotine
What a scene! What a scene!
dmc Thu, 1st Jul '04, 6:02pm It's Emerson Lake and Palmer from Brain Salad Surgery. I think the song's name was something odd (surprise), like Karn Evil Nine or something weird like that.
Splunge Thu, 1st Jul '04, 6:05pm Yup.
Go.
dmc Thu, 1st Jul '04, 11:18pm Sorry for the delay - been in deposition.
"It's so damn easy, when your feelings are such
To overprotect her, to love her too much"
Splunge Sat, 3rd Jul '04, 4:17pm Well, I have it narrowed down to Frankenstein by The Edgar Winter Group, Hocus Pocus by Focus, or Yyz by Rush. :xx:
If it's not one of those, then I (along with everyone else, apparently) need a hint.
BOC Sat, 3rd Jul '04, 4:34pm Does "Hocus Pocus" have lyrics other than "Joladadijoladadijoladadijoladadi
Joladadijoladadi-jo-o-ooh"?
Splunge Sat, 3rd Jul '04, 4:38pm Hmm, you may be right! And come to think of it, Frankenstein and Yyz are instrumentals as well. :p
Well then, I have no idea what dmc's song is. :(
BOC Sat, 3rd Jul '04, 4:52pm  I don't know "Frankestein" but since I have Rush's "Moving Pictures" the only thing that I can say for my defense is that I haven't listened it for years.
Jaguar Sat, 3rd Jul '04, 11:13pm Hold On Loosely, 38 Special
dmc Sun, 4th Jul '04, 7:23am Right Jaguar.
BTW, Splunge, for bonus points, do you know where the name YYZ came from?
Splunge Sun, 4th Jul '04, 5:55pm Well, now that you mention it - no. I always just assumed it was a nonsense title, like Chicago's "25 or 6 to 4". But I'll take a wild (and I'm sure incorrect) stab at it and guess that it would be pronounced "eyes".
BTW, when I tried unsuccessfully to Google the answer (yes, I would have fessed up if I found it ;) ), I came across a site the said the worst song on Moving Pictures was Red Barchetta. :flaming: They have got to be kidding! - that's one of my absolute favorites - not only of Rush's, but of any song.
Idiots. :grr:
BOC Sun, 4th Jul '04, 6:00pm Splungle, it seems that you don't know how to search in google. :p

Splunge Tue, 6th Jul '04, 3:38am Well, I guess it's time for me to take on my regular role here:
Hint, please.
Harbourboy Tue, 6th Jul '04, 3:41am No idea here either.
Jaguar Wed, 7th Jul '04, 10:10pm Ok. The name of the group that sings it can be found in graveyards. And also...
"[Song Title] couldn't make into Mexico
Doubled down gambled all the money up his nose
Had to drive all the way back to 'Frisco
Top Down always blastin' on the stereo"
Djieff Wed, 7th Jul '04, 10:20pm Well, I know there's a band called Obituary, but...
...eh, I got nuthin'. :nolike:
Splunge Wed, 7th Jul '04, 10:37pm I thought I might have had it there for a second, but then I realised that it was just because the words "Mexico" and "stereo" reminded me of Mexican Radio by Wall of Voodoo.
The only band I can think of is Headstones, and while I would recognise some of their music if I heard it, I'm not familiar enough to know the lyrics. And if it is the Headstones, I think they were a Canadian band without a lot of international recognition, so this could be a tough one.
Harbourboy Wed, 7th Jul '04, 11:18pm I can confirm that this is a tough one.
Benan Thu, 8th Jul '04, 7:54am Tiny Teddy-Headstones.
Jaguar Thu, 8th Jul '04, 10:26am Correct (Finally. Really, I had more faith in you guys then this. Sheesh. :p )

Death Rabbit Tue, 20th Jul '04, 9:19pm Need another hint.
Harbourboy Tue, 20th Jul '04, 9:43pm Hmm, I guess I must be ignoring my own pleas to make this game easier....
OK Clue#4
This artist was a bit like a late 80s version of Britney Spears with hits from 1986-1990 but instead of getting sleazier as she got older she ended up fading into the safety of relative obscurity.
Next lines:
"And if I can't find my way
And salvation seems worlds away"
Takara Tue, 20th Jul '04, 9:50pm 80's britney spears? All I can think of is Tiffany, or Debbie Gibson. As for song, I've no idea.
Harbourboy Tue, 20th Jul '04, 9:53pm "I don't mind not knowing what I headed for.
You can take me to the skies.
It's like being lost in heaven.
When I'm (insert name of song here"
Djieff Tue, 20th Jul '04, 10:12pm For some obscure reason I'm *sure* that song's title is "Lost in your eyes" or something along those lines. I even have the freakin' melody in my head. But damn if I remember who sings it.
Harbourboy Tue, 20th Jul '04, 11:51pm I can't remember the rules to this game but to avoid confusion, the 'prize' will go to the first person to correctly name the song title and the artist together.
Takara Wed, 21st Jul '04, 2:01am Lost in your eyes, by Debbie Gibson, or Tiffany?
Harbourboy Wed, 21st Jul '04, 2:14am It was Debbie Gibson. Takara - you can go.
Takara Wed, 21st Jul '04, 8:44am This should be a softball:
Working hard to get my fill,
everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice,
just one more time
Apeman Wed, 21st Jul '04, 11:33am Something of 'Journey' but I can't seem to put my finger on it. Blast it my first song I know and I don't know which one exactly.
Jack Funk Wed, 21st Jul '04, 2:31pm Journey - Don't stop believing
Takara Wed, 21st Jul '04, 2:34pm Indeed it is. Sorry Apeman, but you need both. Jack, you're up.
Jack Funk Wed, 21st Jul '04, 2:37pm One good softball deserves another:
