View Full Version : Name That T.V. Show 2
Jaguar Mon, 4th Oct '04, 10:18am As I was right last in the original, I suppose the honor of starting the second edition of this wonderful game falls upon me. To quote Splunge, the recognized creator of 'Name That T.V. Show':
So here’s the deal. Name something identifiable with a particular T.V. show. It could be anything – a character, location, organisation, often-used phrase - whatever. Try to avoid something that could easily be from more than one show. The person who correctly guesses the show gets to go next.
Same rules as the other games apply – wait for confirmation, no Google searches, impatient jackass rule if someone doesn’t post a new clue within 24 hours after having their guess confirmed correct, etc.
And to start off the new round:
Of the original main cast members of the show, only Weaver and Carter remain.
Laiwethel Mon, 4th Oct '04, 2:02pm E.R.?
Jaguar Mon, 4th Oct '04, 7:12pm Yup, you be up Laiwethel.
Laiwethel Mon, 4th Oct '04, 8:42pm Wow, lucky guess :)
Characters in this show include Col. Jack O'Neil, Major Samantha Carter, Dr. Daniel Jackson and Teal'c.
JSBB Mon, 4th Oct '04, 8:45pm Stargate SG-1
Harbourboy Mon, 4th Oct '04, 8:45pm J.A.G.
Laiwethel Mon, 4th Oct '04, 9:01pm You're up JSBB!
JSBB Mon, 4th Oct '04, 9:12pm Everybody's final appointment is scheduled on a post-it note.
Harbourboy Mon, 4th Oct '04, 9:55pm Newhart?
JSBB Mon, 4th Oct '04, 10:39pm No, it is not Newhart.
Harbourboy Mon, 4th Oct '04, 10:54pm Frasier?
Mesmero Mon, 4th Oct '04, 11:09pm Dead Like Me?
JSBB Tue, 5th Oct '04, 12:10am Yeah it is Dead Like Me. Go Mesmero.
Harbourboy Tue, 5th Oct '04, 12:13am Bah, never heard of it.
Mesmero Tue, 5th Oct '04, 10:22am Doug, Carrie and Arthur.
notforyou Tue, 5th Oct '04, 10:36am King of Queens?
Mesmero Tue, 5th Oct '04, 11:06am King of Queens is correct.
Next time, remind me to think up something harder.
notforyou Tue, 5th Oct '04, 12:19pm Ok, this was one of the main charchters trademark line -
Hey Now !
Enagonios Tue, 5th Oct '04, 4:37pm Mr. Belvedeere? (IIRC the dad used to say it a lot)
notforyou Tue, 5th Oct '04, 9:40pm Not from Mr. Belvedeere
Harbourboy Tue, 5th Oct '04, 10:26pm The A-Team?
notforyou Wed, 6th Oct '04, 12:14am I pity the fool who thinks it's from the A-Team ;)
Harbourboy Wed, 6th Oct '04, 12:33am Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids?
notforyou Wed, 6th Oct '04, 12:39am Harbourboy, I think you just made that one up. You have too much spare time! Join the New-Zealand Navy!
Harbourboy Wed, 6th Oct '04, 12:45am I didn't make up Fat Albert. He was always saying "Hey Hey Hey" so I thought he might have said "Hey Now" as well. If I'm way off mark then give us some more clues.
notforyou Wed, 6th Oct '04, 12:55am The line is from a comedy, taking a behind-the-scenes look at a late night talk show.
Harbourboy Wed, 6th Oct '04, 12:58am Garry Shandling Show?
notforyou Wed, 6th Oct '04, 1:04am Actually, The Larry Sanders Show, but since we're not splitting hairs here...
Harbourboy Wed, 6th Oct '04, 1:20am Oh yeah. Glad you knew what I meant.
OK. how about this one:
The main character of this show was effectively a male nanny.
notforyou Wed, 6th Oct '04, 1:30am Charles in Charge?
Harbourboy Wed, 6th Oct '04, 1:46am ..of our days and our nights....
Yes. Charles in Charge. You win. I must choose something slightly harder next time......
notforyou Wed, 6th Oct '04, 10:58am I am not a number, I'm a free man!
Harbourboy Wed, 6th Oct '04, 9:10pm The Prisoner?
notforyou Thu, 7th Oct '04, 2:12am Yup, your go.
Harbourboy Thu, 7th Oct '04, 2:33am Woohoo. Here's one for Splunge but it will probably have gone before he gets back. Might be easy, might be tricky (knowing me, it will probably be easy)...........
The main actors in this show included:
- a character actor who has gone on to a career in movies (in front and behind the camera)
- a one trick actor who went on to play an identical character in a long running but bad sitcom
- an actor who played a Kramer-like character and went on to be the star of my third favourite movie trilogy
- an actor whose life was the subject of a movie
- an actress who went on to a string of terrible TV mini-series
- ironically the star of this show probably went on to become the least famous of all his co-stars.
Splunge Thu, 7th Oct '04, 4:09am Well, two of those clues make me think it might be Taxi
Harbourboy Thu, 7th Oct '04, 4:19am Ah, good work Splunge. Yet another of my offerings is guessed on the first attempt. For clarity, the actors referred to in my clues were:
Danny deVito
Tony Danza (Who's The Boss)
Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future)
Andy Kaufman (Man in the Moon)
Marilu Henner
Judd Hirsch
Your turn, Splunge-bob.
Splunge Thu, 7th Oct '04, 3:02pm I didn't really watch the show, but I thought deVito and Kaufman were two of the people.
Next up:
Buffy, Jodi and Mr. French
Arabwel Thu, 7th Oct '04, 3:19pm Err, it can't be Buffy the Vampire slayer, can it?
'cause I think it was a Ms. French :p
Splunge Thu, 7th Oct '04, 3:22pm Ara, if you had correctly guessed this show, I would have been shocked, since it was on when your parents were probably kids. :D
No, not Buffy the Vampire Slayer. :p
Rallymama Thu, 7th Oct '04, 3:23pm /me looks up hastily at the prospect of a show from HER era
Family Affair. What an easy chestnut!
Try this: Phoebe Figalilly and Harold Everett
Splunge Thu, 7th Oct '04, 3:23pm Yes. :)
Rallymama Thu, 7th Oct '04, 3:41pm Oops, confirmation came while I was editing my post to include a question... look up, folks!
Arabwel Thu, 7th Oct '04, 4:24pm Sounds annoyingly familiar, strangely enough...
Soap?
*sigh*
I need to watch more TV...
Splunge Thu, 7th Oct '04, 8:04pm Hmm, it's ringing a bell. I'm thinking an older show that's sort of the T.V. equivalent to Mary Poppins, but the name of it is escaping me.
dmc Thu, 7th Oct '04, 8:20pm I'm thinking something like the Nanny and the Professor, but I may be mixing this up with something else.
Rallymama Thu, 7th Oct '04, 8:29pm Nope, dmc, you're right on the money. Fire away!
Tiberius Thu, 7th Oct '04, 8:56pm Does anyone mind if I jump in with a suitable question?
where are the following individuals from in the show MASH?
Hawkeye-
BJ-
Radar-
Col Potter-
Col Blake-
Klinger-
Rizzo(state only)-
Rallymama Thu, 7th Oct '04, 9:20pm Hawkeye-Crabapple Cove, ME
BJ-Mill Valley, California (a GORGEOUS town!)
Radar-Iowa
Col Potter-Missouri
Col Blake-Illinois
Klinger-Cleveland, OH
Rizzo(state only)-Louisiana (somewhere in the Bayou)
Back to you, dmc...
Tiberius Thu, 7th Oct '04, 9:23pm excellent Rallymama
dmc Thu, 7th Oct '04, 10:51pm John Gage and Roy Desoto
Harbourboy Thu, 7th Oct '04, 11:01pm Riptide?
dmc Fri, 8th Oct '04, 2:26am Nope.
Harbourboy Fri, 8th Oct '04, 2:28am Law and Order: Special Victims Unit?
dmc Fri, 8th Oct '04, 2:38am Come on! I'm old -- think old. I don't even watch TV any more.
Harbourboy Fri, 8th Oct '04, 2:46am Hawaii Five-O?
dmc Fri, 8th Oct '04, 2:51am Now you're just guessing (although it is suitably old). :)
Splunge Fri, 8th Oct '04, 3:37am Harbourboy is just in a hurry to get to 2,000 posts; his next guess would probably be The Munsters. :p :p
Anyway, this one's ringing bells too. There was an emergency rescue show on 30-35 years ago; in fact, I think it was called Emergency, and I think Gage and Desoto were the names of the two main characters.
Harbourboy Fri, 8th Oct '04, 3:47am It's slightly more productive to make an educated guess than to say "I have no idea, give us a hint, you meanie!".
My next guess was not going to be "The Munsters".....it was "Z-Cars".
dmc Fri, 8th Oct '04, 6:21am Splunge, however, is suitably old - his turn.
joacqin Fri, 8th Oct '04, 9:49am I find this thread to be threadjacked by old geezers! Tongue-in-cheek aside it would be a teensy-weensy bit of fun if we could try to have somewhat contemporary stuff so the people not yet 30 may have a chance. It is hard enough as it is in not being America. I will stop my whining now ;)
*really just want to put forth his show for guess work*
Splunge Fri, 8th Oct '04, 3:09pm Actually, the teensy-weensy bit of fun part is listing shows that all you young whippersnappers haven't got a clue about. :p
OK, joacqin, how's this? - Pierce Brosnan and Stephanie Zimbalist (probably a softball)
Rallymama Fri, 8th Oct '04, 3:18pm hehehe - scooped!
Remington Steele
Since I happen to agree with Splunge that it's fun to finally have an arena around here where age and treachery really do overcome youth and skill, I offer this challenge:
Name the actor who brought both of these TV roles to life (bonus points if you also name the shows the characters are from):
Tom Corbett
Anthony Blake
dmc Fri, 8th Oct '04, 4:53pm Well, it has to be Bill Bixby because of the Courtship of Eddie's Father (Tom Corbett), but what was the show with him as Anthony Blake? I'm drawing a blank.
Rallymama Fri, 8th Oct '04, 5:11pm Drat, that was too quick. Since you got 2/3 of it right I'll give you the other piece... "The Magician," my favorite show as a pre-teen. I had a HUGE crush on Bill Bixby then...
No accounting for a nine-year-old's taste, eh? Take it away, dmc!
dmc Fri, 8th Oct '04, 6:24pm Higgins!!!! (Yelled with a slightly petulant whine in the voice)
Tiberius Fri, 8th Oct '04, 7:01pm Magnum PI
dmc Fri, 8th Oct '04, 7:10pm That's it.
Enagonios Sun, 10th Oct '04, 9:47am I hereby invoke the Impatient Jackass rule and hijack the thread: :p
At the end of the opening theme song, the protagonist would say his catch phrase: "lets get dangerous".
Minor hint: he said it with a lisp ;)
Vukodlak Sun, 10th Oct '04, 10:32am Darkwing Duck
Enagonios Sun, 10th Oct '04, 12:27pm Good grief, don't you do anything but watch tv? :p Your turn :)
Vukodlak Sun, 10th Oct '04, 6:34pm Hey, that one was easy as soon as you mentioned the lithp...
How about:
An eternal struggle between twins Adam and Zachary (played by the same actor) that will decide the fate of the world. The bad guy is helped by a beautiful witch called Beatrice, while the hero's main helper is a strange fat monk called Godbold...
Harbourboy Sun, 10th Oct '04, 8:38pm Hmm, sounds familiar but I can't quite place it.
Aldazar Mon, 11th Oct '04, 9:23am Sounds like something I read of in a Bryan Brown filmography
Vukodlak Mon, 11th Oct '04, 10:58am Aha, Aldazar is close...
Any guesses on the name of the show?
Harbourboy Mon, 11th Oct '04, 9:03pm Still no ideas. Roll out some clues so we keep this game moving along.
Vukodlak Tue, 12th Oct '04, 10:41pm Ok, it doesn't look like anyone is going to get this one - but Aldazar was almost there so he might as well continue...
The series was called 'Wanderer' and was actually quite good. I don't really know any more about it - I just happened to see it one evening on TV and watched it during the next year or so...
Harbourboy Tue, 12th Oct '04, 10:47pm Never heard of it. Oh well. /waits for Aldazar to come up with something obscure.
Aldazar Wed, 13th Oct '04, 4:42am You putting this in MY hands again??
I'll give it a shot and I think I have an easy one.
A 'colour-blind' amnesiac with a computer-like brain is on the run from a mysterious, malevolent organisation.
Harbourboy Wed, 13th Oct '04, 4:44am Joe 90?
Aldazar Wed, 13th Oct '04, 5:09am Nope, much more recent.
(I had to look Joe 90 up on IMDB to find out what it was)
Harbourboy Wed, 13th Oct '04, 5:56am No idea. Can't think of any TV amnesiacs.
Mesmero Wed, 13th Oct '04, 1:07pm John Doe?
Enagonios Wed, 13th Oct '04, 2:15pm not on topic:
IMDB?
I'd say Star-Trek (for Data) but that's obviously not it.
Kam Wed, 13th Oct '04, 3:50pm I'm tempted to say The Pretender, but Jarrod wasn't an amnesiac, and he wasn't color blind...
It sounds so familiar.
el timtor Thu, 14th Oct '04, 2:25am I'm stumped.
BTW, this isn't an American TV show, is it?
Harbourboy Thu, 14th Oct '04, 4:15am We're all stumped. Give us a clue!
Aldazar Thu, 14th Oct '04, 4:49am Mesmero got it, it was John Doe.
And I thought The Pretender might figure in some people's thoughts, that's why I added the amnesiac bit.
@Enagonios - IMDB (http://www.imdb.com) is basically a database of info on virtually ANY movie/TV series ever made.
Rallymama Thu, 14th Oct '04, 2:15pm @Enagonios - IMDB is basically a database of info on virtually ANY movie/TV series ever made....and using it to answer these questions is decidely CHEATING! ;)
Mesmero Thu, 14th Oct '04, 4:51pm A father and his son solve murders; one does it for a living, the other is a doctor.
Vukodlak Thu, 14th Oct '04, 4:57pm Crazy as a fox! - I think. The one with Jack Warden? That was a great show :)
Mesmero Thu, 14th Oct '04, 6:22pm Nope, that's not the one I have in mind.
Takara Thu, 14th Oct '04, 6:46pm Diagnosis murder?
Mesmero Thu, 14th Oct '04, 8:01pm Yep, Diagnosis Murder is correct. I really need to watch more tv, to come up with something besides these utter softballs.
Takara Fri, 15th Oct '04, 12:04am This show had a golden condor in it, and was set in south America.
Harbourboy Fri, 15th Oct '04, 12:09am Well, that's me out, as I cannot think of any shows at all that were set in South America.
Kam Fri, 15th Oct '04, 1:40am Sounds like some old Hanna-Barbara cartoon.
Enagonios Fri, 15th Oct '04, 4:20am Birdman?
Aldazar Fri, 15th Oct '04, 4:22am ...and using it to answer these questions is decidely CHEATING! That's why I only use it in instances such as the one that I did - if someone guesses something that I've not heard of, I check to make sure it's not like that show I intended. I never actually use it to post a guess.
Anyway, is it "The Mysterious Cities Of Gold" Takara?
Takara Fri, 15th Oct '04, 8:26am yup. My all time fav memory from growing up. You're up Aldazar.
Like you, if I've no idea on a quote, I'll sometimes check IMDB, but after I've checked. I'll never post a guess.
Enagonios Sat, 16th Oct '04, 12:37pm "The Mysterious Cities Of Gold"? Sounds a bit Road to El Dorado-ish
Aldazar Mon, 18th Oct '04, 8:40am Okay, hopefully this is an easy one because I have a hectic week and I'm not sure how often I'll be able to post this week.
A cop framed for killing his girlfriend breaks out of jail and becomes a bounty hunter in order to find the real killer.
notforyou Mon, 18th Oct '04, 9:18am He was a cop, and good at his job... lol - Renegade?
Aldazar Mon, 18th Oct '04, 9:27am Yup, I figured it's be an easy one. You're up notforyou
notforyou Tue, 19th Oct '04, 3:25am Can't think of anything good right now, so anybody with a quote ...
Harbourboy Tue, 19th Oct '04, 3:54am OK - I have one:
Transmute!
Arabwel Tue, 19th Oct '04, 5:00am Transformers? :p
Kitrax Tue, 19th Oct '04, 5:20am That's the only thing that came to my mind too. :rolling:
Harbourboy Tue, 19th Oct '04, 6:12am No, not Transformers. One of the main characters of this show said "Transmute!" about once per episode to herald an event that happened pretty much once per episode.
dmc Tue, 19th Oct '04, 6:31am Sounds like Battle of the Planets (a cartoon here in the states which was adapted from an earlier Japanese cartoon). I think it was later renamed G-Force. Pretty avant-garde at the time, and probably a precursor to such things as Pokeman and the like.
Of course, I am probably completely wrong and just showing my age.
Harbourboy Tue, 19th Oct '04, 6:43am dmc is correct, except for his comparisons to Pokemon. Battle of the Planets was great! It was about these 5 kids who regularly saved the Earth from aliens with the help of their hi-tech vehicles. Their leader, Mark, said "Transmute!" and their normal every day vehicles became super-charged. When things became really bad, all their vehicles bolted onto their plane (the Phoenix) which then transformed into the "Fiery Phoenix" - a dangerous manoeuvre which, not surprisingly, always seemed to work (a bit like Voltron's "Blazing Sword"). Anyway - enough reminiscences.....it's your turn dmc.
dmc Tue, 19th Oct '04, 5:57pm Gee our old Lasalle ran great
Splunge Tue, 19th Oct '04, 6:10pm And you knew who you were thennnnn
Goils were goils and men were men
Mister we could use a man like Hoibert Hoover agaaaaaain
All In The Family
Ain't waiting on that one.
Thurston Howell III
Tiberius Tue, 19th Oct '04, 6:24pm Gilligans Island
Splunge Tue, 19th Oct '04, 6:28pm Absolutely! :)
Your turn.
Tiberius Tue, 19th Oct '04, 6:33pm the theme is called "suicide is painless"
Vukodlak Tue, 19th Oct '04, 6:35pm MASH
Tiberius Tue, 19th Oct '04, 6:44pm correct, your up.
Vukodlak Wed, 20th Oct '04, 10:15pm Right:
This was a show about an organisation of intergalactic crime-fighters whose greatest nemesis ;) were a group of beings from the Vapor Zone Dimension, who have the ability to travel between dimensions, and the treacherous renegade Jessie Blue.
Takara Wed, 20th Oct '04, 11:58pm Blake 7?
Vukodlak Thu, 21st Oct '04, 6:40pm Nope. Hint: animated.
Harbourboy Fri, 22nd Oct '04, 3:26am More hints please.
Takara Fri, 22nd Oct '04, 8:51am Yeah... at the moment, I'm struggling for an animated sci-fi. Only got futurama.
Vukodlak Fri, 22nd Oct '04, 9:39am Ok, I'm going to be away for three days, so a heavy hint follows:
The main characters were:
- A british swordsman
- A japanese car racer
- An american cowboy
- and a girl whose father desgned their giant robot - Renegade
Harbourboy Fri, 22nd Oct '04, 10:48am Lucky Luke?
Enagonios Fri, 22nd Oct '04, 2:13pm SABRE RIDER AND THE STAR SHERRIFS OF THE SKY??? hehe. man, it sounds like it... but i'm not too sure. last time i saw the damn show i had a single-digit age :p
Splunge Sat, 23rd Oct '04, 4:16pm Well, since Vukodlak said he's away for a few days, I googled it, and it appears that Enagonios is right, so I guess it's his turn.
Enagonios Sun, 24th Oct '04, 5:25am Awright. here's mine:
The Age of Science has ended, and the Second Age of Magic has begun. The dark age for civilization has resulted in feudal societies being formed which wage war upon one another. Yet thanks to the great wizard Merklynn, 14 Knights have gained magical powers of transformation. The group is divided between the good Spectral Knights and the evil Darkling Lords.
ah yes, back in the good old days when cartoons were still good ;)
JSBB Mon, 25th Oct '04, 4:39am Ooh I think I remember that show - it is Visionaries, the show based upon the line of action figures with hologram logos on them, right?
Enagonios Mon, 25th Oct '04, 7:48am hehe man, you watch everything! yup, you got it. did the action figures come before the cartoons? I always thought that it was the other way around...
Aldazar Mon, 25th Oct '04, 9:55am did the action figures come before the cartoons? I always thought that it was the other way around... It was the same with the Zoids cartoon. That was based on the toys rather than vice-versa.
JSBB Mon, 25th Oct '04, 2:41pm Yeah, many of the 80s cartoons were made to be commercials for already created lines of toys - He-Man and the Masters of the Universe was probably the most blatant example but there are many to choose from.
As for my next show - every episode saw the crew of the Mean Machine resorting to underhanded tactics and losing badly when they backfired - always leading to one member of the crew cursing while the other stood there snickering at him.
Vukodlak Mon, 25th Oct '04, 4:28pm Dick Dastardly and Muttley (aka stop the pigeon)?
Takara Mon, 25th Oct '04, 6:30pm could also have been whacky races
JSBB Mon, 25th Oct '04, 9:25pm It is Wacky Races, as far as I know they didn't use the Mean Machine in Dastardly and Muttley.
Enagonios Tue, 26th Oct '04, 5:17pm @JSBB
i guess i do learn something new everyday, I always thought that cartoons came before action figures :D
Takara Tue, 26th Oct '04, 6:30pm Hmm... ok...
Maybe a softball.... but this show had Doozers living under a lighthouse.
Vengeance Incarnate Tue, 26th Oct '04, 7:56pm Fragle Rock?
Takara Tue, 26th Oct '04, 10:39pm Heh, thought it might be a softie. ;) You're up VI.
Vengeance Incarnate Wed, 27th Oct '04, 8:03pm Thanks Takara. Ok this one's a golden oldie and it's a HUGE softball for anyone who's ever watched Nick at Nite :p .
This is an excerpt from the TV show's intro/theme song:
"Goodbye grey skies
Hello blue.
There's nothing can hold me
When I hold you.
Feels so right,
It can't be wrong.
Rockin' and rollin' all week long."
Like I said, it's really easy.
Takara Wed, 27th Oct '04, 8:37pm Happy days
Vengeance Incarnate Wed, 27th Oct '04, 11:49pm Right on the mark, Takara. You're up.
Takara Thu, 28th Oct '04, 8:38am Since I'm extolling some old children programs....
You have a talking jet, fuel truck, baggage truck, and tow truck...
Aldazar Thu, 28th Oct '04, 9:11am Budgie? Or whatever Fergie's creation was called.
Either way, it sounds like a Thomas The Tank Engine-type show.
joacqin Thu, 28th Oct '04, 9:32am Bob the Builder?
Carcaroth Thu, 28th Oct '04, 10:32am Jamie and the Jet Set?
Sorry, Jimbo & the Jet Set?
[ October 28, 2004, 17:20: Message edited by: Carcaroth ]
Takara Thu, 28th Oct '04, 6:33pm hehe, You've got a good memory there Carcaroth. It is indeed Jimbo & the jet set. :shake:
Carcaroth Fri, 29th Oct '04, 10:42am It's not that old (is it?) Too much time watching kiddies TV as an adolescent.
This may be easy for some of the older members. I loved it as a kid.
Simon MacCorkindale played British Doctor (or professor?) Jonathan Chase with a special skill in crime fighting in this early 1980's sci-fi set in New York.
Clues for the weekend:
Key is the "Special Skill" (worthy of a b-list comic book super hero) if you knew this, you'd know the program.
Only 8 episodes made, plus a feature length one
Ursula Andress stared in the feature length TV film.
Known (for a time) as David Lettermans favorite program. Apparently, he even paid tribute to it with a touching short film when it was cancelled.
[ October 29, 2004, 16:49: Message edited by: Carcaroth ]
Harbourboy Fri, 29th Oct '04, 11:08am No idea on that one.
Takara Fri, 29th Oct '04, 6:55pm hmm... dont really know that myself. When it comes to crime fighting doctors, I cant get past Diagnosis murder.
Aldazar Sun, 31st Oct '04, 2:13am Manimal? I don't remember the character's name in that show but the rest sounds kinda like it.
The only other thing is I don't remember it as being British. But I WAS young back then.
Harbourboy Tue, 2nd Nov '04, 12:26am Bah, this one has gone on for three days now. Get on with it!
Splunge Tue, 2nd Nov '04, 1:36am I googled it. It was Manimal, so it's Aldazar's turn.
Aldazar Thu, 4th Nov '04, 6:24am Actually, according to a book I have at home - "The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Fantasy" - it was a US production, I found out last night.
Anyway, next:
A man killed in a subway accident is 'reborn' and genetically modified by the US Government then forbidden to see his family.
Takara Thu, 4th Nov '04, 10:25am sounds like robocop.. heh
Carcaroth Thu, 4th Nov '04, 10:28am Damn, remember seeing the trailers for this one, but it's name doesn't spring to mind yet.
Oh, I never said it was a British production, just that he was a British doctor.
Harbourboy Thu, 4th Nov '04, 8:03pm Gemini Man?
Aldazar Fri, 5th Nov '04, 5:47am Oh, I never said it was a British production, just that he was a British doctor. Mea culpa, read it wrong I guess. But I did get the right answer so...not all bad then.
Anyway, not Gemini Man. I've not actually heard of that I don't think. This one only lasted one season IIRC.
Carcaroth Fri, 5th Nov '04, 10:23am I got flashbacks of it on my way home last night and it's now really bugging me.
He was a portly middle agged chap that fell (pushed?) under a subway train. They then used his Brain in a 20-something body. I think he kept trying to help his wife because the insurance company refused to pay out saying it was suicide.
Pretty sure it was a Sky 1 program, around the same time as the first series of Dark Angel.
Can I "phone a friend" ?

Jaguar Sun, 7th Nov '04, 8:20am I know that the guy who fell, as well as the voice in his inner dialog was played John Goodman, IIRC.
Damned if I knowthe title, but I'll HB it.
Umm, 6 Million Doller Man?
Aldazar Mon, 8th Nov '04, 7:28am Carcaroth is definitely on the right track. Got everything correct except the name is missing.
The 'portly' chap is probably much better known for starring opposite a very annoying and grating woman in another sitcom.
Enagonios Mon, 8th Nov '04, 11:49am Crap, the connection to the Subway keeps making me think of Ghost with Patrick Swayze :/
Carcaroth Mon, 8th Nov '04, 4:35pm I gave up and had to ask one of my old flatmates, and no, I was never going to get it by myself.
Given the sparsity of other suggestions, despite having the main plot line for three days, I think you may need to come up with a new one Aldazar.
Harbourboy Mon, 8th Nov '04, 7:59pm I have no idea and can't even think of anything speculative to guess that even has a chance of being right. C'mon Aldazar, keep it moving!
Jaguar Tue, 9th Nov '04, 9:40am Quicksilver? Maybe that was a different show...
Harbourboy Tue, 9th Nov '04, 9:50am Man is this STILL going? Come on!
Arabwel Tue, 9th Nov '04, 11:09am err... Lexx?
(pure guessing...)
Aldazar Wed, 10th Nov '04, 7:19am Okay, the main guy was played in his 'portly' incarnation by John Goodman, then in his trimmed version by Eric Close. The series also starred Dennis "President Palmer" Haysbert as the main character's 'Handler'.
Jaguar Wed, 10th Nov '04, 7:51am Yeah, we knew about John Goodman, but as for the title, I am still drawing a blank.
It lasted what, one season? Two at the most. More details man.
Dark Haired Beauty Wed, 10th Nov '04, 7:59am ''then and now"
Aldazar Wed, 10th Nov '04, 7:59am IIRC the hteme song had the same name as the show and the song was sung by a female.
Heather Matarazzo played the main character's daughter I think.
Takara Wed, 10th Nov '04, 8:47am I think this has gone on long enough Aladazar. New TV show quote, or an IJ will jump in.
Carcaroth Wed, 10th Nov '04, 1:41pm DHB is very, very close.
Arabwel Wed, 10th Nov '04, 3:08pm Now and Then?
Splunge Wed, 10th Nov '04, 3:32pm OK, since Aldazar seems to show up only once every 2 or 3 days, as the initiator of this game, I'm going to declare DHB correct since she was the closest (google says it was actually Now and Again).
(Sorry, Aldazar, but this has been going on far too long - if you want to play, you need to show up more often :p ;) )
DHB is up. But don't take too long. :p
Dark Haired Beauty Wed, 10th Nov '04, 5:09pm This tv show told you creepy stories that were true and creepy stories that were lies. At the end of the hour they recapped the stories telling you which were based on true accounts and which were fabricated by the writers. James Brolin and Jonathan Frakes were the hosts.
Splunge Wed, 10th Nov '04, 10:27pm Bah. I remember the show, but didn't really watch it. It was called something like Unbelievable (although I don't think that's quite right).
Laiwethel Wed, 10th Nov '04, 10:29pm Ripley's Believe it or Not?
Harbourboy Wed, 10th Nov '04, 10:30pm Is that that show hosted by Jonathan Frakes? yeah, something like The Unbelievable or Fact or Fiction or something?
Jaguar Wed, 10th Nov '04, 10:31pm Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction
Saw it in the listings yeaterday.
Splunge Wed, 10th Nov '04, 10:34pm Damn! Beyond Belief - that was it. (And I googled to make sure.)
Oh well, even though DHB should confirm, Jag might as well go.
Dark Haired Beauty Thu, 11th Nov '04, 1:38am Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction is correct :thumb: Go Jag
Aldazar Thu, 11th Nov '04, 7:04am Apologies for not showing up that often, I do try to post softballs when I do get a chance though because my work schedule is awkward right now. Not to fear, I'll be back in form as of Wednesday next week.
Jaguar Thu, 11th Nov '04, 9:54am Gaia, Kwame, Wheeler, Linka, Gi, Ma-Ti.

(Probably too easy...)
Carcaroth Thu, 11th Nov '04, 11:14am Scrubs
Mesmero Thu, 11th Nov '04, 11:23am Correct :thumb:
Carcaroth Thu, 11th Nov '04, 12:18pm T'was fairly easy. I think "Green Wing" may challenge it for wackiest hospital status though.
Marshall and Simon investigate strange goings on in a small American town.
Jaguar Thu, 11th Nov '04, 12:31pm That town being Eerie, Indiana?
Carcaroth Thu, 11th Nov '04, 12:33pm Thought it may be a soft ball. Correct
joacqin Thu, 11th Nov '04, 12:56pm Bah! I have already used Scrubs once! Get your own shows! ;)
Jaguar Thu, 11th Nov '04, 1:06pm Hey everybody, it's the Seavers!
Arabwel Thu, 11th Nov '04, 4:32pm Grrr.... why oh WHY was I asleep? I would have gotten that Captain planet one.... *pout*
Splunge Fri, 12th Nov '04, 11:33pm Time for a hint, Jag
Jaguar Sat, 13th Nov '04, 8:09am A hint? Man, I thought this one was a soft ball.
The theme song starts out "We're nowhere near the end. The best is ready to begin . . ."
It was off air, but it recently came back with a sequal type show, starring Kirk Cameron, Brandon Douglas, Tracey Gold, Ashley Johnson, Joanna Kerns, Jeremy Miller, Chelsea Noble, and Alan Thicke.
If nobody gets it now, Ill eat Splunge's leather armour.
Vukodlak Sat, 13th Nov '04, 10:28am Growing pains? You forgot 'boner' :D
Jaguar Sat, 13th Nov '04, 10:58am Correct. Make us think Vukodlak. :hmm:

Laiwethel Sat, 13th Nov '04, 3:30pm Who do you serve, and who do you trust?
Arabwel Sat, 13th Nov '04, 5:03pm I am haveina very vivd mental image here.... Crusade.
Takara Sat, 13th Nov '04, 6:04pm Since Lai wont be on for a bit, she's told me and I can confirm that it was Crusade. You're up.
Arabwel Sat, 13th Nov '04, 6:39pm Yayness... now, what to pick, what to pick...
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Lord Byron. Richie Redstone. Tessa Noel.
All are somehow relevat to the show in question :D
Harbourboy Sat, 13th Nov '04, 6:50pm The Young Ones?
Arabwel Sat, 13th Nov '04, 7:52pm Nope :)
Laiwethel Sun, 14th Nov '04, 12:04am Highlander?
Enagonios Sun, 14th Nov '04, 10:06am I think I can confirm laiwethel's answer.
Arabwel Sun, 14th Nov '04, 4:17pm It is, indeed, Highlaner. And the ball id off to Laiwethel...
Laiwethel Mon, 15th Nov '04, 2:01am Ah, Highlander, what a show.
Okay, next show on the list:
A living ship manned by escaped convicts and a human fight Peacekeepers, Sebaceans and other alien, or not so alien, races.
Harbourboy Mon, 15th Nov '04, 2:11am Blakes Seven?
Laiwethel Mon, 15th Nov '04, 2:18am Nope, not Blakes Seven.
Jaguar Mon, 15th Nov '04, 3:21am Oh, I know this one. Damn my memory...
I think maybe Farscape?
Laiwethel Mon, 15th Nov '04, 3:30am You think correctly, Jag. Farscape it is.
Jaguar Mon, 15th Nov '04, 4:00am Man, I am on a role. Lemme see...
"The best thing about childhood is... at some point it stops." - Malcolm
Vukodlak Mon, 15th Nov '04, 9:29am Malcom in the Middle? (or is that too obvious?)
Jaguar Mon, 15th Nov '04, 10:18pm Obvious but correct.
Vukodlak Mon, 15th Nov '04, 11:04pm Ah cool :)
How 'bout this:
'GENERAL VON KLINKERHOFFEN!!!'
Harbourboy Mon, 15th Nov '04, 11:13pm Hogan's Heroes?
Mesmero Mon, 15th Nov '04, 11:45pm Isn't that from Allo Allo?
Vukodlak Tue, 16th Nov '04, 12:44am 'Allo 'allo indeed. Your turn Mesmero
Mesmero Tue, 16th Nov '04, 10:23am One of the characters in this show is a wrestler called The Cry Baby
JSBB Tue, 16th Nov '04, 1:41pm This is just typical, I have logged on only to find that I knew the latest show but it had already been guessed for six of the seven previous shows - and when I finally log on and find an unguessed show I don't know it.
Well, I guess that means I will just have to take a wild guess and try a show I have never even seen! Is it Mucha Lucha?
Carcaroth Tue, 16th Nov '04, 3:05pm You're not alone JSSB, the easy ones always appear to be in (my) evenings. The only "shows" with wrestlers I can think of is the WWF ones.
Mesmero Tue, 16th Nov '04, 7:17pm It isn't Mucha Lucha (I've never even heard of it).
The Cry Baby is one of the main characters from this sitcom.
Jaguar Wed, 17th Nov '04, 9:06am Los Lucha- Dores? Probably not, but still a damn funny show while it lasted.
Mesmero Wed, 17th Nov '04, 11:31am Nope, never heard of that one either.
The two main characters from this show came to Las Vegas to persue their dreams; one became a wrestlers (nicknamed The Cry Baby) and his wife became a dancer.
notforyou Wed, 17th Nov '04, 12:35pm Nikki? (or somwthing close...)
Mesmero Wed, 17th Nov '04, 1:07pm Nikki it is.
Go!
Splunge Fri, 19th Nov '04, 12:50am Impatient jackass time.
Next:
I hate meeses to pieces!
dmc Fri, 19th Nov '04, 3:07am I think it was from Huckleberry Hound, although I think Jinx the cat is the character that said it.
Definitely Hanna Barbera material.
Splunge Fri, 19th Nov '04, 3:48am You're on the right track, dmc, but it's not from Huckleberry Hound (other than generally, much as Foghorn Leghorn was part of the Bugs Bunny show, but they never appeared in the same cartoons). It is Hanna Barbera, as you say.
The show was named after the "meeses".
Dark Haired Beauty Fri, 19th Nov '04, 3:55am Klondike Kat maybe seems like it was on with chilly willy.
Splunge Fri, 19th Nov '04, 3:57am Nope. It was actually very much like Tom & Jerry.
Dark Haired Beauty Fri, 19th Nov '04, 4:03am Pixie and Dixie and that cat.
Carcaroth Fri, 19th Nov '04, 1:04pm umd'lay umd'lay ariba ariba.
(Ot something like that)
Speedy Gonzales zee faster mouse in zee west.
Register Fri, 19th Nov '04, 1:17pm Space Jam
Splunge Fri, 19th Nov '04, 2:58pm DHB got it right - Pixie and Dixie (and Mr. Jinks, as dmc said).
dmc Fri, 19th Nov '04, 5:02pm I think that Pixie and Dixie was the name of the skit, but the overall show (as introduced on the hour or half hour, whenever it started, was actually Huckleberry Hound (just like Foghorn Leghorn or the Roadrunner was the skit, but the show was Bugs Bunny).
That being said, whatever. Take it away DHB.
Splunge Fri, 19th Nov '04, 6:37pm I know what you're saying, dmc - I was looking for the name of the specific cartoon (or 'skit'), rather than the overall show. Just like I would expect the right answer to "Wiley E. Coyote" to be the Road Runner, not Bugs Bunny.
But hey, it's Friday, I'm in a good mood, and it's only a game. So dmc or DHB - whoever posts first can take it. :D
Dark Haired Beauty Fri, 19th Nov '04, 7:03pm This TV character was a New Orleans insurance company investigator. While on a case he had the double misfortune of having his wife killed and his eyesight destroyed by people determined that he not solve the case. Despite his injury, he refused to quit the business and with the help of his canine guide dog Pax to help him get around he felt confident of his abilities to solve cases. His girl Nikki was his biggest booster and his friend Duke Paige worked with him on many cases. Bruce Lee appeared throughout the series as his self-defense instructor.
Splunge Fri, 19th Nov '04, 7:12pm On second thought, I think I'll just give it to dmc. :p
(j/k - I have no idea on yours, DHB)
Dark Haired Beauty Fri, 19th Nov '04, 7:17pm Does the name James Franciscus help. hehe
T2Bruno Fri, 19th Nov '04, 10:33pm The seeing eye dog was a white german shepherd if I'm remembering correctly (gorgeous dog). Those scenes where ********** would go into a trance and "see" what happened always had me hooked when I was a kid.

Dark Haired Beauty Sat, 20th Nov '04, 6:38am Since nobody has gotten this one and I am starting Thanksgiving break and may not be online much the answeer was "LONGSTREET" First person to post can start a new one.
JSBB Sat, 20th Nov '04, 4:18pm O.K. DHB but everyone will curse you for letting me post this one.
This children's show's theme song was "I've got a head like a ping pong ball" sung (repeatedly) to the tune of the William Tell Overture. :shake:
Splunge Sat, 20th Nov '04, 4:39pm GAH! I have no idea what the show is, but I can imagine how the song goes. And goes. And goes. And...
Damn you, JSBB! :grr:
:p
