kuemper Mon, 8th May '06, 2:54pm Faye said:
A terrorist bomb is set off in a restaurant. The people in the restaurant (not bombed) continue on, apethetic of the victims. And gave this hint:
In the restaurant bombed, one character mentions to the protagonist why doesnt he do anything about the bombings. He casually remarks that it is his lunch hour.... and that its not his department.Minority Report?
Faye Mon, 8th May '06, 4:36pm Sorry, nope.
Thanks for opening a new thread btw ^^
T2Bruno Tue, 9th May '06, 4:14pm Seems to me we need another hint....
Faye Tue, 9th May '06, 5:34pm The movie is quite old. >10 years old.
T2Bruno Tue, 9th May '06, 8:38pm Greater than 10 years old as 'quite old.' :geezer:
Bah! 'Quite old' means movies with Cary Grant or Katherine Hepburn or Buster Keaton. :geezer: Harrumph!
Faye Tue, 9th May '06, 9:13pm I kept it ambiguous for obvious reasons, but fine, the movie is release in the 80s. Its almost as old as me, and relatively, thats pretty old. I also consider any movie before the 90s as quite old.
kuemper Wed, 10th May '06, 3:59am I don't think this is right, but I never saw the sequal.
Robocop II?
Faye Wed, 10th May '06, 8:33am nope, its not any from the Robocop trilogy
DarkStrider Wed, 10th May '06, 9:55am Is it Dead Pool?
Faye Wed, 10th May '06, 1:37pm Nope
T2Bruno Wed, 10th May '06, 4:10pm Top Secret?
Faye Wed, 10th May '06, 4:17pm Ok, last clue before I finally pass the torch to someone else.
The protagonist fell in love with a suspected terrorist and later has himself promoted to the department that IS in charge of the terrorist bombings just to find out more information about her.
T2Bruno Wed, 10th May '06, 4:50pm Brazil?
Faye Wed, 10th May '06, 5:32pm Yup, bingo. All yours.
T2Bruno Wed, 10th May '06, 8:13pm A can of paint explodes as a man walks next to it.
T2Bruno Thu, 11th May '06, 11:44pm Hint: The paint can was shot.
DarkStrider Fri, 12th May '06, 10:50am Phone Booth?
Carcaroth Fri, 12th May '06, 3:45pm Leon? Or was that a paint ball gun.
DarkStrider Fri, 12th May '06, 4:17pm Paint ball gun Carc
T2Bruno Fri, 12th May '06, 4:21pm Hint #2: The paint can was shot by The Duke.
DarkStrider Fri, 12th May '06, 4:57pm The Man who shot Liberty Valance?
Takara Fri, 12th May '06, 8:44pm I'm unfortunately no good with movies with John Wayne. :(
T2Bruno Fri, 12th May '06, 9:46pm You got that right, Pilgrim.
Trivia: John Wayne is often imitated with using the term 'pilgrim' -- it comes from The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.
Your turn DS.
T2Bruno Tue, 16th May '06, 3:00am This appears to be prime pickin's for an IJA....
kuemper Tue, 16th May '06, 4:09am Did someone mention an Impatient Jackass? :D
A woman repeatedly rams another car which took her parking space.
Takara Tue, 16th May '06, 3:57pm Fried green tomatos?
kuemper Tue, 16th May '06, 8:30pm Yes. Have a fried green turnip.
Takara Tue, 16th May '06, 9:49pm It is? way to go me! I've never actually seen it, just a few trailers. Okey dokey...... A man is fighting kung fu style with someone else and it gets relayed and is put on a big TV screen.
T2Bruno Tue, 16th May '06, 10:00pm The Last Boy Scout
Takara Tue, 16th May '06, 10:05pm Nope.
Daie d'Malkin Wed, 17th May '06, 2:15am Mortal Kombat?
kuemper Wed, 17th May '06, 2:34am The Running Man?
Takara Wed, 17th May '06, 2:08pm Nope and nope. Hint time: After the fight the man makes his escape by jumpping off the building. Tall enough that he has to use a parachurte.
Daie d'Malkin Wed, 17th May '06, 2:23pm The Tuxedo?
Takara Wed, 17th May '06, 3:34pm Nope
kuemper Thu, 18th May '06, 3:16am Mission: Impossible 3?
Takara Thu, 18th May '06, 1:38pm This is proving trickier than I would have thought. This film came out in 2001, the reason I know this is because I went to the cinema to see it.
Maurolava Thu, 18th May '06, 1:40pm Rush hour?
Takara Thu, 18th May '06, 2:00pm Nope
Takara Fri, 19th May '06, 2:41pm Well. since it seems to be so hard I'll give it away, via a cryptic clue, hehe. The title of this film is the same as a reasonably well known chinese book.
T2Bruno Fri, 19th May '06, 3:23pm The Art of War (the book was by Sun Tzu)
That is from the hint only -- I never saw the movie, only know a movie with that title came out in the past few years.
Takara Fri, 19th May '06, 3:27pm It was indeed. Shame you never saw it, I love it to bits.
T2Bruno Fri, 19th May '06, 4:14pm This should be a very easy one....
An old motorcycle jumps over barbed wire.
DarkStrider Fri, 19th May '06, 4:38pm Hmmm goes for the obvious, The Great Escape?
T2Bruno Fri, 19th May '06, 8:31pm I told you it was easy....
Go DS.
DarkStrider Sat, 20th May '06, 10:12am Two women walk along a platform badly to catch a train?
Vukodlak Sat, 20th May '06, 12:52pm They walk badly? What does that even mean? :p
DarkStrider Sat, 20th May '06, 3:13pm One falls off the heels, that help you?
Vukodlak Sat, 20th May '06, 4:48pm Some like it hot?
'women'? :p
kuemper Tue, 23rd May '06, 1:36pm DS, I see you online. Post tha Vukodlak is correct!
Beren Tue, 23rd May '06, 2:11pm I'm too tired to think of a scene myself, so whoever's fastest on the draw can become the next impatient jackass. ;)
Takara Tue, 23rd May '06, 5:12pm Heh, again that would be me! ;)
A boy gets lost in a big crowd of people so climbs on a cart and tries to call out to his mother
Faye Tue, 23rd May '06, 5:59pm Empire of the sun?
Takara Tue, 23rd May '06, 7:50pm Gah, there was me thinking it might prove a little tricky. Sunk it straight up Faye. :)
Vukodlak Wed, 24th May '06, 1:11am Hmmm... Darkstrider, was my guess right? I'd still like to know...
Faye Wed, 24th May '06, 1:26pm Haha, sorry. Was just a wild guess. Thanks.
A man literally drove to the end of his world. He got out of the car, staring in disbelief as he gets a phone call.
DarkStrider Wed, 24th May '06, 1:56pm Yes it was Vukodlak, sorry I forgot I posted that
Vukodlak Wed, 24th May '06, 3:23pm Dark city?
Faye Wed, 24th May '06, 5:18pm Lol! Nope, but I actually intended to put a scene from Dark City.
Vukodlak Wed, 24th May '06, 7:08pm Truman's show?
Enagonios Thu, 25th May '06, 7:34am No, the 13th Floor.
Faye Thu, 25th May '06, 8:22am Bingo, 13th floor. All yours.
Enagonios Thu, 25th May '06, 11:11am After having sex, a woman screams a man's name in her sleep. When questioned about the name the next day by her boyfriend, she tries to pass it off as a woman's name.
nior Thu, 25th May '06, 1:02pm ^ Absolutely no idea but was there any chance she called my name?
kuemper Thu, 25th May '06, 2:45pm 200 Cigarettes?
T2Bruno Thu, 25th May '06, 4:00pm High Fidelity?
Enagonios Fri, 26th May '06, 3:26am No and no. Okay, I guess it's kind ofvague so here are some hints: the name that the woman shouts is "Ralph" and she tries to pass it off the next day as short for "Ralphine".
kuemper Mon, 29th May '06, 2:36pm The obvious - King Ralph?
Enagonios Mon, 29th May '06, 6:09pm hmm, still nope. okay, i guess I chose to obscure a scene so I'm going to give it away now to anyone that has actually seen this movie.
The protagonist gets really scared when his newlywed wife demonstrates her ability to sing the song "Only You" in several different languages on their wedding day.
Faye Fri, 2nd Jun '06, 12:32am Seems like noone has a clue. Perhaps another hint... or another movie?
Harbourboy Fri, 2nd Jun '06, 1:20am Just Married?
Colthrun Fri, 2nd Jun '06, 1:34am "My stepmother is an alien" (or whatever the name of that film with Kim Bassinger and Dan Aykroyd was)?
Harbourboy Fri, 2nd Jun '06, 3:23am Earth Girls are Easy?
Enagonios Fri, 2nd Jun '06, 3:43am finally, some life :D no, you guys are on the wrong track. it's a comedy but it has nothing to do with aliens. okay, i'm really giving it away with this one: it has something to do with murders.
kuemper Fri, 2nd Jun '06, 4:22am So I Married an Axe Murderer?
Enagonios Fri, 2nd Jun '06, 5:50am finally :p it was all there guys. murder, marriage and mike myers' fear when she sang only you :D
kuemper Fri, 2nd Jun '06, 1:47pm After a brawl, a man replaces one of his now missing teeth with gum.
kuemper Mon, 5th Jun '06, 4:16am Hint - a biography
Faye Mon, 5th Jun '06, 9:10am Erm, wild guess since noone is going for it.
Cinderella Man?
kuemper Mon, 5th Jun '06, 3:00pm No. Guesses will pick now that everyone is busy at work/school.
Enagonios Mon, 5th Jun '06, 4:13pm a better hint? :p
kuemper Mon, 5th Jun '06, 7:23pm A musical biography almost 30 years old :p
T2Bruno Mon, 5th Jun '06, 7:58pm The Buddy Holly Story
kuemper Mon, 5th Jun '06, 11:52pm I was just waiting for you, T2, because I knew you would get it.
T2Bruno Tue, 6th Jun '06, 3:49pm Am I that predictable with 70's movies?
A woman cuts her own son's hand off.
edit: He was reaching for her beer.
Edit again ... hint: Yugo's (many, many Yugo's) play a major role in the movie.

Vukodlak Thu, 8th Jun '06, 10:11pm Big Fish?
DarkStrider Fri, 9th Jun '06, 12:11am Yay! Have a balloon on a stick
Vukodlak Sat, 10th Jun '06, 11:43pm Ok.
Jesus hides from the rain under an umbrella...
kuemper Sun, 11th Jun '06, 4:48am South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut?
Vukodlak Tue, 13th Jun '06, 9:18am Nope. Hint: it's one of those cocktail umbrellas.
Enagonios Thu, 15th Jun '06, 2:46pm err another hint?
Vukodlak Sat, 17th Jun '06, 11:17pm Ok, it's a little dashboard figurine of Jesus.
Enagonios Tue, 20th Jun '06, 4:22am hmm... I doubt it but.. Dogma? I think we'll need another hint :p
Harbourboy Tue, 20th Jun '06, 4:25am The Mexican?
Carcaroth Tue, 20th Jun '06, 9:39am For some reason I have "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" in mind, odd as I have never seen the film.
Vukodlak Tue, 20th Jun '06, 1:01pm Nope, nope and nope. Another hint? Ok, another scene from the film:
A man throws a cigarette out of the window where something explodes off-screen.
JSBB Tue, 20th Jun '06, 2:16pm Airplane?
Vukodlak Wed, 21st Jun '06, 1:59am That's the one. And don't call me Shirley!
JSBB Thu, 22nd Jun '06, 3:28am A corporate tycoon, upon seeing that his orbital weapons platform has been hijacked by an alien and is firing at his research lab, frets about going bankrupt then decides to sit back and enjoy the show - and asks his chauffeur/bodyguard to make him some popcorn.
Chas Thu, 22nd Jun '06, 7:20am The Fifth Element ?
Enagonios Thu, 22nd Jun '06, 10:34am heh, don't think i've seen this one.
JSBB Thu, 22nd Jun '06, 11:52am No it isn't the Fifth Element.
@ Enagonios - Consider yourself lucky.
Enagonios Thu, 22nd Jun '06, 5:01pm ah, it's one of those movies eh :D
JSBB Thu, 22nd Jun '06, 6:47pm I don't imagine that anyone else has seen this turkey yet so I guess another hint is in order.
The film was released Tuesday, direct to video, and undoubtedly was produced to cash in on the hype from another film about the same main character that is to be released in a couple weeks.
DarkStrider Thu, 22nd Jun '06, 6:51pm Something to do with UltraViolet?
JSBB Thu, 22nd Jun '06, 7:02pm No, nothing to do with UltraViolet.
DarkStrider Thu, 22nd Jun '06, 7:33pm Then perhaps Aeon Flux?
Vukodlak Thu, 22nd Jun '06, 8:07pm Ok - Superman? I don't know the exact name but I heard that a new superman TAS film was coming on DVD. Is it not good then?
Well, I might not be right but fits the hints...
Corporate Tycoon = Lex Luthor
Alien = Superman/Braniac
chauffeur/bodyguard = Mercy Graves
JSBB Thu, 22nd Jun '06, 8:26pm Yes, it is the new Superman animated film.
The alien in question was Braniac and not Superman himself although Superman was the intended target of the orbital weapon. Interestingly the orbital weapon was pivoting around 30 degrees to track and fire at Superman who was pretty much stationary at the Luthor Lab. I would expect that level of pivoting from an orbital ray weapon would result in the second shot hitting somewhere in Greenland rather than shifting a few meters away but quite frankly that is a minor sin compared to the film's horrible dialogue.
The film was made to look artistically similar to Superman TAS but it is not part of the same continuity and the characters are written (and in the case of Lex Luthor and Braniac voiced) very differently. Bruce Timm and most of his crew were not involved in the project and quite frankly it shows.
Here (http://www.worldsfinestonline.com/WF/superman/reviews/brainiacattacks/media.php) is a link to some sound clips from the film. They are almost all really, really bad but the last one was particularly painful. It was spoken by Lex Luthor to Superman. Oh, and the "I am so ... happy" one comes from the scene I was describing. The voice acting on that one is absolutely terrible.
Here (http://www.worldsfinestonline.com/WF/superman/reviews/brainiacattacks/) are a couple reviews from the same site. I personally agree with Bird Boy's review but the other review is only slightly less hostile towards the film.
When the more favourable review states that the film was "a stain on Superman’s shorts as far as I’m concerned" you kind of get the picture of just how bad it is.
Blackthorne TA Thu, 22nd Jun '06, 10:44pm I would expect that level of pivoting from an orbital ray weapon would result in the second shot hitting somewhere in Greenland rather than shifting a few meters away...That depends on what orbit the weapon was in. For a GEO, then sure you wouldn't expect that. But a polar LEO, you've got the weapon going completely around the Earth every 90 minutes or so, while the Earth is spinning underneath it! ;)
JSBB Fri, 23rd Jun '06, 3:32pm Gosh, Blackthorne TA is right - I should have been far more diligent in reviewing that scene. ;) :deadhorse:
So I checked it again last night and based upon the positioning of the satelitte relative to the Earth, my best estimate would be that the 30 degree swivel shot should have hit somewhere in Mexico. Amusingly enough the energy weapon swivels right back to its initial position after that shot so apparently Braniac decided to take a break from shooting at Superman and cause some random devestation south of the border.
Interestingly enough, based upon the pattern of fire on the ground scenes I was also able to deduce that the satelitte is apparently capable of moving at tremendous speed (possibly teleportation) and appears to be capable of time travel or some other means of being in two places at the same time. Not only do the beams shift from normally coming in straight vertically to all sort of different angles seemingly at random but it also managed at one point to have two energy beams coming in from two different directions at the same time. It is clearly established that there is only one prototype satelitte and given the angles the damn thing would have to be thousands of kilometers long to manage those two angles at the same time - if it actually had two different energy weapons despite the fact that it clearly appears to be only one. :p
Vukodlak Sat, 24th Jun '06, 8:05pm No Clancy Brown either :(
Ok, new scene
A man is talking over his plans for the evening. By himself. In somebody else's bathroom.
Enagonios Sun, 25th Jun '06, 3:47am Along Came Polly?
Vukodlak Sun, 25th Jun '06, 11:32am Nope.
Hint: his entertaining soliloquy includes references to morality, loyalty, self-preservation and err... maturbation.
Enagonios Sun, 25th Jun '06, 11:37am Pulp Fiction?
Barmy Army Sun, 25th Jun '06, 1:12pm Yeah, it's Pulp Fiction defo.
Vukodlak Sun, 25th Jun '06, 1:44pm 'Tis at that. Thine turne Enagonios...
Enagonios Mon, 26th Jun '06, 4:37am Cool. Here's one from the last movie I saw. Should be a giveaway for anyone that's seen this.
A man forgets what he's doing in the middle of a chase, sees the other guy and figures that he's chasing him so he runs at the guy and gets shot at then he runs away realizing that's what he was doing the whole time :D
Harbourboy Mon, 26th Jun '06, 5:13am The Bourne Identity?
Vukodlak Mon, 26th Jun '06, 9:57am Memento.
Enagonios Mon, 26th Jun '06, 11:21am like i said, it's a giveaway. back to you vukodlak. btw, that movie was frickin amazing.
Enagonios Thu, 29th Jun '06, 5:03pm I think Vukodlak forgot about this. If he doesn't post by tomorrow night, somebody feel free to IJ. Or I may post another one.
Vukodlak Thu, 29th Jun '06, 5:49pm I did, thanks for the bump...
A man standing at a broken window, with about 30 laser sights pointed at his chest, shouts to the crowd gathered below...
JSBB Thu, 29th Jun '06, 6:30pm I was thinking The Recruit but I think he was standing in a doorway in that one.
Iku-Turso Thu, 29th Jun '06, 6:39pm Ho ho, Terminator 2, except I don't remember the governator shouting to the cops.
T2Bruno Thu, 29th Jun '06, 8:27pm Come on, Samuel L Jackson in The Negotiator.
Vukodlak Thu, 29th Jun '06, 11:09pm Ah, that's the one T2Bruno... You are in control.
T2Bruno Thu, 29th Jun '06, 11:58pm A car plummets off a cliff. As it falls, wings deploy and the car levels out and flys away.
Harbourboy Fri, 30th Jun '06, 12:09am Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?
Barmy Army Fri, 30th Jun '06, 1:03am That rings a bell... I can't quite think... grrr...
I've seen a film where that happens, a few times...
kuemper Fri, 30th Jun '06, 2:14am Spy Kids?
T2Bruno Fri, 30th Jun '06, 3:36am Toot Sweet. It is Ian Flemming's Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Go HB.
p.s., you should also update the Name that TV Show Thread.....
Harbourboy Fri, 30th Jun '06, 4:20am Hooray!
A guy daydreams about beating up his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend.
T2Bruno Fri, 30th Jun '06, 3:34pm High Fidelity
Harbourboy Sat, 1st Jul '06, 7:02am T2Bruno is right. That scene always cracks me up. Your turn.
T2Bruno Sun, 2nd Jul '06, 3:53am Sorry, I've been getting ready for a trip early tomorrow morning. I bow out to the first IJA.
kuemper Sun, 2nd Jul '06, 3:02pm IJA:
A man forces another man into a cloth sack at swordpoint.
Enagonios Sun, 2nd Jul '06, 6:14pm crap, I know this one :bang:
Barmy Army Sun, 2nd Jul '06, 10:33pm I've no idea what 'IJA' means and I've no idea what that film is!
Harbourboy Sun, 2nd Jul '06, 11:09pm IJA stands for Impatient Jack Ass and is the rule that states that if the poster of the question vanishes for more than 24 hours or so, then the next impatient person can take over the thread.
Barmy Army Sun, 2nd Jul '06, 11:12pm Ah, I see, thanks for shedding light on that.
dmc Mon, 3rd Jul '06, 2:27am Caveat: IJA actually works if the person with the acknowledged right answer goes AWOL for 24 hours. Alternatively, if the poster of the question does not say whether one or more guesses is correct within 24 hours, then the first in time that guessed is deemed correct, no matter how dumb-ass and wrong the guess may be.
Enagonios Tue, 4th Jul '06, 11:48am bumping this up. I think we need a hint kuemps.
kuemper Tue, 4th Jul '06, 4:08pm All righty then.
Hint: it's an old movie with 'god' starring as the lead.
DarkStrider Tue, 4th Jul '06, 4:38pm Life of Brian?
kuemper Tue, 4th Jul '06, 10:26pm Not LoB, but the same year. The movie I'm thinking of has the lead actor's same distaste for the telephone company that I have.
T2Bruno Wed, 5th Jul '06, 2:39am Oh, God.
kuemper Wed, 5th Jul '06, 3:39pm Wrong movie, right actor. George Burns is the lead male. His co-star was a very 'pretty baby'. ;)
A man forces another man into a cloth sack at sword point. Once the man is in the sack, his captor reveals the sword is collapseable.
T2Bruno Wed, 5th Jul '06, 4:02pm Ah, you're combining several movies in your hints. George Burns and Brooke Shields only starred in one movie together -- Just You and Me, Kid.
I had a big crush on her and saw all her movies -- I don't remember that movie much though (and not that scene).
kuemper Wed, 5th Jul '06, 9:54pm That's the one.
T2Bruno Thu, 6th Jul '06, 3:32pm Three blue moons.
T2Bruno Fri, 7th Jul '06, 11:29pm Hint: The lights were blue, making the moons blue.
Harbourboy Sat, 8th Jul '06, 11:49am Grease?
T2Bruno Sun, 9th Jul '06, 4:03pm That would be it. I love the announcement the next day: experts in the FBI to identify that sort of thing....
Your turn.
Harbourboy Sun, 9th Jul '06, 9:50pm You're joking. That was the biggest speculator guess ever. I must be right on your wavelength. Great clue. I won't be able to come up with anything as good.
An old man plucks a speeding arrow out of the air.
Enagonios Mon, 10th Jul '06, 7:26am robin hood, men in tights
Enagonios Tue, 11th Jul '06, 10:55am Bumping this up just in case HB forgot about it. Did I get it right? If HB doesn't respond by tonight I'm going to assume I'm correct (which I'm actually pretty confident of :p ) and post the next one.
Harbourboy Tue, 11th Jul '06, 11:20am You confidence, misplaced. Must try again, find answer somewhere else.
The Magpie Tue, 11th Jul '06, 1:20pm Karate Kid? :skeptic:
T2Bruno Tue, 11th Jul '06, 2:12pm Remo Williams?
Enagonios Tue, 11th Jul '06, 2:57pm whaaa? Well if magpie or T2 haven't guessed what you had in mind I think the scene should be given a few more details then because I can say for a fact that, as it is, this scene happened in Robin Hood: Men in Tights when Cary Elwes' old manservant pulled the arrow out of the air just as it was about to hit him.
Harbourboy Tue, 11th Jul '06, 8:32pm You, Magpie, wrong answer, no arrows in Karate Kid. But you on right track. You train more, you get better answer.
The Magpie Tue, 11th Jul '06, 9:07pm So it's part II or III, then? :hmm:
Harbourboy Tue, 11th Jul '06, 9:27pm Ah, young Magpie-san, you train hard, but you still no balance. No arrow in Karate Kid II or Karate Kid III. I go visit monastery and maybe you have right answer when I come back.
kuemper Wed, 12th Jul '06, 4:13am The Next Karate Kid?
Harbourboy Wed, 12th Jul '06, 4:18am Ah, you Kuemper-san, you good student. You see Miyagi practice zen archery in monastery in The Next Karate Kid. You now ready to become teacher. Now your turn to ask question. We now YOUR students. Teacher say, student do.
kuemper Wed, 12th Jul '06, 4:24am You see Miyagi practice zen archery in monasteryDeductive logic, actually. You were very specific about it not being the other 3 Karate Kid films.
A spy infiltrates a building by climbing out of the toilet.
Enagonios Wed, 12th Jul '06, 6:02am Johnny English?
kuemper Wed, 12th Jul '06, 12:49pm No, but it is a British movie...and 'spy' is a loose term for the person I'm describing, but saying his/her actual job would be a give away (I think).
Vukodlak Wed, 12th Jul '06, 1:10pm Ghost dog?
Colthrun Wed, 12th Jul '06, 2:48pm Goldeneye?
kuemper Thu, 13th Jul '06, 4:19am No and no. The 'spy' is a paparazzo in a musical movie circa 1997.
kuemper Sat, 15th Jul '06, 1:29pm Weekend Edition[tm] hintage: the stars of the film were bright between 1996 and 1999 and are better known by there 'band' nicknames.
T2Bruno Sat, 15th Jul '06, 5:56pm Ah, must be Spiceworld.
Never saw the movie, probably never will.
kuemper Sun, 16th Jul '06, 3:51am It is. You know what we want, what we really, really want T2Bruno.
T2Bruno Sun, 16th Jul '06, 3:54pm A man gives a lesson to a young punk on how to use a butterfly knife.
Colthrun Sun, 16th Jul '06, 4:02pm For some reason, Steven Seagal comes to mind, but the name of the film escapes me...
EDIT: Exit Wounds?

Harbourboy Sun, 16th Jul '06, 9:49pm Under Siege?
The Magpie Sun, 16th Jul '06, 11:28pm Crocodile Dundee?
Master of Nuhn Mon, 17th Jul '06, 12:34am That would be my guess as well:
"Careful. He's got a knife"
"You call that a knife?" *shing* "THIS is a knife"
:D
Faye Mon, 17th Jul '06, 12:41am Face/Off?
kuemper Mon, 17th Jul '06, 3:45am For some reason, Steven Seagal comes to mindMy thoughts, too, but I have a guess:
Above the Law?
T2Bruno Mon, 17th Jul '06, 3:41pm No on all counts. Neither the user of the knife, nor the guy giving the lesson is known for martial arts.
The key is the butterfly knife. It's a flashy form of folding knife:
The Balisong or Butterfly Knife is a form of folding pocket knife with two handles that counter-rotate around the tang. It is an ingenious design that, when closed, has a blade that is completely covered. When a well-made Balisong is open and the two handles are locked together, it is as strong and reliable as a fixed blade knife.
Iku-Turso Mon, 17th Jul '06, 3:44pm This is so on top of my tongue! I know I've seen this somewhere, but where!?
Vukodlak Mon, 17th Jul '06, 7:02pm Carlito's way?
T2Bruno Mon, 17th Jul '06, 11:40pm No.
Hint: It's a musical. :D
The Magpie Tue, 18th Jul '06, 12:02am West Side Story? :skeptic:
Master of Nuhn Tue, 18th Jul '06, 1:11am The Sound of Music! The part where Mr. von Trapp kills the nanny Maria and anyone who sings along with her.
Wait. That was the wishful thinking I had while watching the film. Sorry. My bad.
T2Bruno Tue, 18th Jul '06, 7:32pm No, neither of those. This came out in the 80's.
nior Wed, 19th Jul '06, 12:37pm Grease.
kuemper Wed, 19th Jul '06, 2:19pm Grease was in 1978. Maybe Grease II?
T2Bruno Wed, 19th Jul '06, 3:53pm No to both. The movie also sported a fight scene where the hero and villian squared off using sledge hammers.
nior Thu, 20th Jul '06, 9:01am Streets of Fire?
Enagonios Thu, 20th Jul '06, 1:34pm I'd guess Streets of Fire also but iirc it wasn't a musical. unless you call a young and very hot diane lane singing
Iku-Turso Thu, 20th Jul '06, 2:44pm I'm guessing Cry Baby, even if I haven't seen the film, on the basis of a)it's a musical b)IIRC it's got some street gangs or at least young punks c) it's a John Waters film, which would explain the quirkiness of a sledgehammer fight in a musical
The only problem is that it premiered in 1990, but that would make it made in the 80's...
T2Bruno Thu, 20th Jul '06, 3:25pm It was a pseudo-musical billed as 'a rock-and-roll fantasy.' A slightly misleading clue....
Your turn nior.
nior Fri, 21st Jul '06, 7:46am Streets of Fire... heck, all I can really remember was those guys singing "I Can Dream About You". Still loved that song though.
Ok here goes...
A biker dude stands on the table a belted out quite a performance in front of a handful of guys dressed like they're going to a Halloween party.
Clue: I'm just streatching T2Bruno's musical.
Enagonios Sun, 23rd Jul '06, 5:08pm bumping this up. hint?
Harbourboy Sun, 23rd Jul '06, 8:36pm The Rocky Horror Picture Show?
nior Mon, 24th Jul '06, 3:20am Sorry HB, wrong guess.
Hint: I think it's a late 70's or early 80's show. It's about music, and the group had reach pop-icon status internationally. They are like boy bands in the sense that they sing and dance to catchy tunes but definitely not boys. You may not love their music but I think it's safe to say that the majority of us here in this thread knows who they are.
Harbourboy Mon, 24th Jul '06, 3:42am Saturday Night Fever?
nior Mon, 24th Jul '06, 7:12am ^ Nope, not the Bee Gees. This group were the star of the movie.
kuemper Mon, 24th Jul '06, 1:59pm Head?
Vukodlak Mon, 24th Jul '06, 2:13pm Monkees?
nior Tue, 25th Jul '06, 1:02pm Nope and nope... btw you're suppose to guess the movie title not the group that starred in it.
Another hint: The title of the movie is also the title of one of their hit song.
Arabwel Tue, 25th Jul '06, 1:42pm Can't stop the music, starring the VIllage People?
nior Wed, 26th Jul '06, 3:46am Finally. Your turn Ara.
Arabwel Wed, 26th Jul '06, 9:50am Wheee :D
A hotel maid is asked to fetch the purse of a woman taking a bath.
Harbourboy Wed, 26th Jul '06, 10:56am Maid in Manhattan?
Arabwel Wed, 26th Jul '06, 11:19am Nope. Dunno if it has s a similar scene, but it is not the one I have in mind.
Enagonios Thu, 27th Jul '06, 12:46pm hint?
kuemper Thu, 27th Jul '06, 3:07pm Maid to Order?
Arabwel Thu, 27th Jul '06, 3:15pm Nope.
Hint: The maid gets clobbered with a champagne bottle.
kuemper Thu, 27th Jul '06, 7:46pm Ocean's 11 (either one)?
Arabwel Thu, 27th Jul '06, 7:56pm Nope
THis movie starred Antonio Banderas, although he is not involved int he scene :p
Vukodlak Thu, 27th Jul '06, 9:37pm 4 rooms?
Arabwel Thu, 27th Jul '06, 9:46pm Nope.
Pseudospawn Fri, 28th Jul '06, 1:42am Femme Fatale?
Arabwel Fri, 28th Jul '06, 2:04am Yup. Femme Fatale :D
Pseudospawn Fri, 28th Jul '06, 11:23am Does that mean i'm up?
I'll make it easy.
A man has his entire right arm severed by a shotgun blast.
Colthrun Fri, 28th Jul '06, 1:44pm Robocop?
Although I think it was just the hand...
Pseudospawn Fri, 28th Jul '06, 2:13pm Yep it was robocop, he loses the whole arm in the Director's Cut.
Colthrun Fri, 28th Jul '06, 2:30pm Yay!
A man signs a contract using another man's back as support. When he finishes, he stabs the other man with the pen, leaving the contract attached to this man's back.
kuemper Fri, 28th Jul '06, 3:22pm It's The Running Man!
Colthrun Fri, 28th Jul '06, 4:41pm kuemper wins Arnie's sweaty spandex suit!
Your turn. :thumb:
kuemper Fri, 28th Jul '06, 5:52pm kuemper wins Arnie's sweaty spandex suit!
A man pulls a cucumber out of his pants at the airport metal detector.
Takara Sat, 29th Jul '06, 9:45am This is Spinal Tap. Very funny film.
kuemper Sat, 29th Jul '06, 4:38pm Yes.
Takara Sat, 29th Jul '06, 5:20pm okey doke...... Two people are going through a swamp and the girl gets swallowed up by a pit of quicksand. To save her the guy she is with slashes a nearby vine and dives with it into the pit. He then manages to crawl up the vine with the girl to escape.
T2Bruno Sat, 29th Jul '06, 5:43pm I know I've seen this...
The Princess Bride?
Takara Sat, 29th Jul '06, 8:20pm Indeed it is. After Kuemper posting a scene from a film with Christopher Guest, I couldn't help choosing another.
T2Bruno Sun, 30th Jul '06, 2:42am A scarf falls gently over a katana and is sliced in half by it's own weight.
Enagonios Sun, 30th Jul '06, 2:49am the bodyguard
Chas Sun, 30th Jul '06, 2:49am Grrrrr :bang: I have seen this. But from which movie? Maybe Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon?
DarkStrider Sun, 30th Jul '06, 1:57pm Hero?
jaded empath Sun, 30th Jul '06, 4:59pm Actually I think Enagonios has it: Kevin Costner's character is showing Whitney Huston's char how sharp the sword he owns is by taking the scarf from around her neck and dropping it onto the blade...
dmc Mon, 31st Jul '06, 2:22am I thought this was in Kill Bill also, but maybe not.
T2Bruno Mon, 31st Jul '06, 3:54am Enagonios is correct. Kevin removes Whitney's sheer scarf and lets it fall gently over the blade.
Barmy Army Mon, 31st Jul '06, 4:00am I'm sure that happens in a few films. But whatever.
Enagonios Mon, 31st Jul '06, 11:26am Maybe, but imo the Bodyguard is really the movie where it's memorable.
okay, haven't really seen any good ones in a while so i'll use an old one.
a guy dislocates his own shoulder in order to get out of a straightjacket, just to win a bet.
nior Mon, 31st Jul '06, 11:53am That's definitely Mel Gibson, Lethal Weapon. Can't remember which one but I'm pretty sure it's the one with South Africans as villains (one of them was supposedly responsible for killing MG's wife).
Extending my answer further... Lethal Weapon 3.
Enagonios Mon, 31st Jul '06, 12:45pm verrry close, even got the villains right, but not quite it i'm afraid :p
nior Mon, 31st Jul '06, 12:48pm Then it's Lethal Weapon 2.
Enagonios Mon, 31st Jul '06, 12:52pm thats the one. your turn
nior Tue, 1st Aug '06, 4:55am I felt a little bad for doing 2 guesses in a row. So here's an easy one.
Girl goes into a church and sat in the confession booth. After a brief discussion with the "priest", she gets out of the her booth to see who the "priest" was only to find a silver bullet.
Enagonios Tue, 1st Aug '06, 10:56am replacement killers?
