I love these guys! I just recently started watching The Young Ones and I loved it from the start, and I have now seen series one of Bottom. It's bloody brilliant! Any other fans of these guys here? :D

Hey me, me  the best way to see them was bottom live on stage, that was brilliant. If you want to see their early stuff watch Comic Strip Presents: that also includes French, Saunders, Coltrane and others

Bottom is fantastic. Hooligan's Island is the best, I think, but their latest 'Weapons Grade Y Fronts Tour' was funny as hell. I;ve got their 25 years of mindless violence DVD, which is a scream

EDIT: I can see this being moved to the Sensorium

Are these the same Young Ones as those with Cliff Richard's "Living Doll"?

Well, not the original version, but they did do a remake with Cliff in the 80s. The theme song to the Young Ones is also a remake of a Cliff Richard song. And one of the last words uttered on the last episode is "Cliff!".

one of the last words uttered on the last episode is "Cliff!". LMAO! I'd forgotten that! Definately a fan here. The Bottom live shows are my favourites, I think. Rik Mayall released a live stand up thing at Christmas time last year. Does anyone know if it was any good?

Never seen them.
But I once heared that Keith Flint of The Prodigy (singer with pink and green hair) was one of the Young Ones. Seemed a pile of BullSnip to me, though.

No Keith was never one of them, he modeled his hair on one of them Vivain played Ade Edmondson.

ROTFLMFAO! Bottom is great! I really like the bit on "oil" in The Young Ones where Vyvyan gets that pickaxe through his head and then vomits all over the floor! That's great!

Guest House Paradiso is great too, I just saw it the other day. Loads of people have said they don't like it because it hasn't got a plot, the directing is sh!t etc. but I really really liked it. The "traditional" fighting scenes between the two characters richie and Eddie were funny to watch, the rubber panties, the oven, the candle in the eye...all of it was just great. :D

Actually, Guest House Paradiso is rubbish. The Young Ones is fantastic though.

It had all the same qualities that made the tv show great it just seemed darker and creepier. Part of the charm of the show was its cheapness and stupidity, the film was too well put together while at the same time kinda lame and half-assed.

I think Guest House Paradiso wasn't funny for the same reason League of Gentlement movie/series 3 wasn't, there was no laughter track.

Its just easier to laugh and enjoy a show when you can hear other people laughing aswell. Sure in alot of tv shows hearing the audience can ruin things (o.t.t. laughter, cheering people coming on screen, hooting) but this is only really the case with those god awful american sitcoms.

Yeah, I like laughing along with other people. Canned laughter is just awful though.

I used to watch Bottom quite a lot. That level of slapstick humour isn't usually my thing, but I have to confess a weakness for Bottom and The Young Ones.

Interestingly, my mum happens to be a Holby City fan (UK hospital drama), and I was surprised as heck to see Mr Edmondson playing a surgeon. http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/holbycity/gossip/ He isn't half bad in a 'serious' role (I say that with air quotes as I'm not entirely certain you can class Holby as serious.) Of course, I have no idea if he's taken any serious roles previously. It may be that I'm completely oblivious to a whole different side of his career.

His character in Holby is semi-serious, I watched it the previous two nights and there were a few small jokes. I'm not sure if he has done any serious roles in the past.
